UQ Holder Chapter 140 SPOILER Images (Update #2: More Images)

Here are some SPOILER images for the upcoming UQ Holder Chapter 140, courtesy of 2CAT.  (My review of UQ Holder Chapter 140 should come out as soon as they appear on Crunchyroll, depending on when Crunchyroll publishes the chapter.)

UQ HOLDER Chapter 140 SPOILERS

The UQ Holder Chapter 140 goodness begins. Here are the chapter’s spoiler images. ^_^

UQ Holder Chapter 140 UQ Holder Chapter 140 UQ Holder Chapter 140

So as before in Negima, the Negi x Asuna combo defeats MotB, only this time, apparently for good. Obviously, the hospital scenes were unknown to us from Negima, but they make sense.

UQ Holder Chapter 140

And above, another image from the party we saw in Negima ; it is a new image from it, which is nice.

UQ Holder Chapter 140

Ha! This wasn’t even remotely hinted at in Negima. Chisame became a recluse, but aided Negi at times. Eva went looking for another Nagi. And now, Akamatsu-sensei gets to do his Chisame x Negi ship, which isn’t my thing but whatever. And Eva gets her prize in Nagi, which is fine, but I would have loved to have seen more of Eva’s time with Nagi and Ala Rubra. Of course, I think that would be difficult with how Akamatsu-sensei structured things. Fitting Eva in the timeline so that she could be pals with Ala Rubra and roam the globe with Nagi while never knowing about Arika seems pretty impossible to me. But, that’s what reconning is for. 😉

Next up, the results of the UQ Holder popularity contest. Akamatsu-sensei must be weeping that his girl Kirie wasn’t #1.

UQ Holder Chapter 140

Finally, here’s a promo image for the upcoming UQ Holder OAD episode.

UQ Holder Chapter 140

Supposedly, there’s going to be 41 pages in the chapter. We’ll see how much Akamatsu-sensei fleshes out from the Negima story and how much returns to UQ Holder.

More updates as warranted.

Update #1: Here’s another image.

UQ Holder Chapter 140

So more silent frames of what happened post-fight.

Update #2: Another image, pre-battle.

GGWP Akamatsu. What a way to end the Negima good end timeline flashback. Now with the info UQH and Touta has, all he needs to do now is come up with a decent enough plan to defeat Negi Ialda and his henchmen and save Negi as well as Eva.

  2. Yue Ayase says:

Nice to see Yue’s harem again. I don’t want to comment on the obvious until I see the full chapter.

EDIT: Wait a sec…. I see Madoka on the left side of the big spread… And then another girl who looks exactly like her on the right? Holding up one of the Narutaki’s kids by the looks of it…

EDIT 2: Akira maybe? With super short hair…

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

I checked Negima and Akira does seem to have short hair at the end of it. However, both of those women look like Madoka.

  3. Mattcgw says:

Oh my, (George Takai gif) so we getting wedding pics for both negi and nagi, but not konoka and Setsuna, well with this and Ymir. It’s seems to confirm institutionalised homophobia.
So it looks like Akamatsu-Sensei is going full lolicon with the Eva wedding picture.

Upside, pushing a character whom has little development or agency just to pander to a certain group doesn’t work, wonderful, shame about the low vote count. But nevertheless indicative, when one considers One piece is having another popularity contest.

You know I cannot imagine a current timeline wherein Britain is homophobic enough not to pass gay marriage.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

It’s seems to confirm institutionalised homophobia.

I highly doubt that. Besides, for Touta, his primary point of interest is what happened with Negi, Nagi, and Eva. Setsuna and Konoka are just two babes he has no clue about.

      • Mattcgw says:

        Yes, it does.

Ymir (a lesbian) (whom was killed of screen) as soon as shingeki become popular and christia seems to of had her sexuality erased. Both series are in same magazine.

Yet young magazine which is also Kodansha, where prison school is serialised, had a full blown lesbian sex blackmail scene/plot, which also had amazing sales success after the anime (million for one volume), is just fine. FFS, the puritan USA just passed gay marriage across all states, and Japan has had centuries of monks penetrating cross dressing prostitutes, (which the shoungunate were terrible at enforcing anti solicitation laws)

Also, Ken should refocus his efforts from kirie to Mizore, someone with agency, character and is generally entertaining. My world God only knows analogies stands. Firm.

        • Yue Ayase says:

While I agree the attention needs to be shifted away from Kirie, not sure why you would say Mizore… There’s zero chance of her ever becoming more than a side character considering she has very few attributes that make her a fit for this series. (No immortality, no magic, not even on MC’s radar).

Kuromaru and especially Santa are criminally underused. I was kinda hoping Santa would become the Kotaro of this series but as of right now their only similarities are anime absences.

        • AstroNerdBoy says:

Also, Ken should refocus his efforts from kirie to Mizore, someone with agency, character and is generally entertaining. My world God only knows analogies stands. Firm.

I’d love to see Mizore worked in more, but without giving her some kind of powers, she can’t help in battles.

  4. nt122 says:

Well, at least this is better than that quick ending we got.

Regardless, i still think there was a hint of the Negi x Chisame anyway. That’s just my opinion.

On the other hand, I am wondering if she(chisame) found some way to be immortal, maybe using her artifact to implant her soul/spirit into the Network.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

Well, at least this is better than that quick ending we got.

Somewhat, yes. Taken as a whole, it is even better.

Regardless, i still think there was a hint of the Negi x Chisame anyway. That’s just my opinion.

I recently finished rereading Negima as my bedtime relaxation (only took three months though *_* ) and while there were hints, even at the end, Akamatsu-sensei was teasing a lot of girls as possibly being the one for Negi. The only thing that ruled Asuna out was Negi telling Asuna whom he liked.

  5. OverMaster says:

I’m not going to comment on the ships until I read the chapter, but concerning the popularity poll, wow, Kuromaru gave Kirie a brutal beating. And after the former spends so much time away from the spotlight given to the later, too.

    • Yue Ayase says:

Maybe Japan wised up. Kuromaru has been a better character from the beginning.

      • AstroNerdBoy says:

Kuroumaru needs more character work and a deeper backstory look. But Kuroumaru is a better character than Kirie.

        • Yue Ayase says:

I agree on both accounts. Kuromaru desperately needs a good spotlight chapter.

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

A 40+ page chapter would be nice. An entire story arc would be better. 😉

          • Yue Ayase says:

It just strikes me as odd that Negima managed to shed good light on almost every student yet UQ fails to do that with a much, much smaller cast. The fact that we’re 140 chapters in and we still haven’t seen the other numbers just… puzzles me.

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

I strongly suspect that Akamatsu-sensei just keeps shifting things as he goes along. He does a story arc, then shifts to another direction, then shifts again. With Negima, I think he mostly had a tight storyline up until the Magic World arc. I think he shifted where he wanted to go either when the arc started or shortly thereafter.

What has always frustrated me about Akamatsu-sensei’s writings is that even in Negima, we never really explored character’s past. I wanted to know more about Eva back then because it was an interesting tale and it tied into what was going on with the main plot. With Setsuna, she got character work via Eva, but we lost a brilliant opportunity to explore her past, which was a shame.

          • Yue Ayase says:

I think there were just too many ideas and not enough pages to put them on. Which is understandable when you have a cast that just got larger with every arc. While I was slightly interested in Eva’s past, the more I read of it the less interested I became. It was nice to see she was a Lifemaker experiment and that was really all I needed. And UQ has done Eva almost no favours at all, even with the past stuff revealed it’s only served to make her less likable.

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

Eva at least tied into the main plot. Personally, she was the most interesting because of her ties with Nagi, Ala Rubra, MotB, and the fact that she was converted from human to shinso vampire at the age of 12 and had to survive.

I do agree that UQH hasn’t done Eva any favors. Indeed, I would say Akamatsu-sensei took a big dump on the character, which is surprising since she was a favorite of his in Negima, so much so that he brought her over into UQH.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

Yes. While I don’t dislike the Kirie character (she could do with a lot of character work, as could all of the UQH characters — only Santa has any real character work done for him), I haven’t cared for Akamatsu-sensei pushing her on us non-stop. Well, maybe this will encourage Akamatsu-sensei to explore Kuroumaru’s character sometime in the not too distant future.

  6. kiboujin says:

I like how they have both Kuroumaru’s personas up. Glad he won. Especially being pushed to the back for so long. Kuroumaru is the best one and hopefully he (and Santa) will get some more page time.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

Without being able to read the text, I suspect that they combined the votes for Kuroumaru as gender-neuter and as female. Either way, Kuroumaru ran away with it.

And yeah, I want to explore Kuroumaru’s past big time. Kuroumaru’s tribe as well.

  7. Dargor says:

Well, this is disappointing. Not Chisame winning, that’s great, but UQ Holder being a vehicle to tell a abridged version of Negima’s ending. What a waste for both series.

That Eva/Nagi photo is appalling though.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

That Eva/Nagi photo is appalling though.

Hahaha! It doesn’t look like Nagi’s too thrilled with it. 😉

    • ryuya says:

but UQ Holder being a vehicle to tell a abridged version of Negima’s ending.

It has always been the case. UQ Holder has had arcs were Negima’s plot was not very important but there have been chapters of arcs were the story of Negima was very important. It’s been called a sequel since day 1.

      • Dargor says:

I know it has, and that honestly hasn’t served anything other then to drag both of these stories down. UQ Holder, despite supposedly being about immortals and whatever is they get up to, the plot gets hammered down trying to deal with Negima’s baggage. All of the characters are woefully underdevloped and under utilized, the setting only exists as flavor to try and spur on Negima on while contributing nothing worthwhile on its own, and is at this point so irrelevant due to the fact that interest lies solely in Negima and the context to it.

Meanwhile Negima ends up getting cut apart to try and justify some of Holder’s asspulls and trying to self-insert a boring ass character into another’s backstory like a terrible fanfic, and all it gets to show for it is a poorly paced final “conclusion” when half of the things relating to any of the characters is dashed to the wayside. Cool, we see the ending, but not how we get there.

I am entirely convinced Akamatsu has winged this entire story from chapter to chapter, with only a vague outline. Sure, Negima was always going to be a part of Holder, but I have the distinct impression that it was not intended to be anywhere near as omnipresent as it is now. Akamatsu, seemingly realizing that Holder didn’t have any substance to it, packed on more and more Negima content to try and lure people in, to the point that it’s now literally just a sequel series. I can almost guarantee that probably wasn’t the first intention when this series started.

        • AstroNerdBoy says:

I am entirely convinced Akamatsu has winged this entire story from chapter to chapter, with only a vague outline.

You mean the UQ Holder manga? I would disagree that it was chapter to chapter. I’m firmly convinced Akamatsu-sensei thought he could be like Mashima-sensei and just plot out a story without worrying so much about the big picture. For the main plot, I would agree that he only had some vague outline. And I agree with you that Negima wasn’t supposed to have the presence it has now (though Akamatsu-sensei did write in the final volume of Negima that he would resume the Negima some point).

I suspect that for the short term, this will improve UQ Holder sales. Speaking personally, my traffic for this week’s spoilers are the highest I’ve seen for UQ Holder since the series started.

  8. Waffle says:

Guess Arika was an imaginary wife after all.
Ken seems to deny her presence so hard it’s outright disturbing.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

I’ve long believed Arika is a retcon character. Akamatsu-sensei knows it ’cause Arika just doesn’t logically fit into the story. Oh, she works during the war on the Magic World, but it is those years afterward where she doesn’t fit. I mean how could Eva not know about Arika and Nagi being a couple? Why did Negi never mention his mom once before Arika was introduced? Why didn’t the villagers talk about her? And that’s just for a start.

    • Izayoi Arashi says:

@Waffle “Imaginary wife”. I can come up with multiple things about what happened to her, but until Akamatsu fleshes out what really happened to Arika, i’d keep my tabs on her being dead, again, until Akamatsu really explains what happened to Negi’s mom.

      • AstroNerdBoy says:

And I don’t think he’s going to bother. Whatever he says will clash with things he’s stated before.

  9. magine says:

‘there’s going to be 41 pages in the chapter.’ wow! I wonder who are the characters that were in position 4 and 5 of the ranking.

At first when I saw the spoilers and saw Nagi get married with Eva I thought, how is it possible? But after reading “Eva went looking for another Nagi.” I already understood that ‘Evangeline’ wasn’t from that timeline, but from another timeline (I already don’t know how many different ‘timeline’ there are) Happy Ending everywhere.

Seeing the image of the anime, I wonder how long will it take, 30 minutes? 1 hour? If it is going to show how Evangeline and Touta meet, will it show from chapter 78 to 94? I think that Dana won’t appear, so it won’t show all the scenes of the manga… so I don’t know how it will be.

I realized that Santa’s seiyuu doesn’t appear… Aren’t they going to show Santa in the anime?! ಠ_ಠ

Seeing Evangeline crying when she sees Nagi, it shows that she was very worried about him. Now to wait to returns to UQ holder and see what happens with the poor Cutlass, at this rate, the members of UQ Holder cover of will appear before her. XD

PS: I liked that ‘Evangeline’ got married with ‘Nagi’ at the end, but, she could not have looked in her adult form? Yes, she is over 700 years old, but still it looks strange to me… And that’s how years later Negi’s double was born of that timeline…

    • CerealQueen says:

I believe the other characters on the poll are 4th being Karin and 5th being Asuna.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

I realized that Santa’s seiyuu doesn’t appear… Aren’t they going to show Santa in the anime?! ಠ_ಠ

He may not be in the OAD, but I’m not sure.

PS: I liked that ‘Evangeline’ got married with ‘Nagi’ at the end, but, she could not have looked in her adult form?

Her child form is her true form, so I guess that’s to be expected.

  10. shadowofthevoid says:

The look on Nagi’s face in the wedding pic gives a “How am I going to explain this to Arika?” impression. Seriously. What happened to her, anyway?

Also, yay for Kuromaru winning first place with a commanding lead in the popularity poll. Maybe this will encourage Akamatsu to focus more on Kuro in the future. I still prefer the Touta/Kuro ship. First boy/girl. Interesting character.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

The look on Nagi’s face in the wedding pic gives a “How am I going to explain this to Arika?” impression. Seriously. What happened to her, anyway?

I will be shocked if Akamatsu-sensei ever even attempts to explain this. Arika doesn’t fit into the timeline after the war on the Magic World thanks to Eva. Eva supposedly was hanging out with Ala Rubra, long enough to become a trusted comrade. Apparently no one ever talks about Arika and Arika isn’t around ’cause Eva didn’t know about her. Then Eva travels the world with Nagi for however long. Nagi never talks about Arika and Arika is never around ’cause Eva didn’t know about her.

Also, yay for Kuromaru winning first place with a commanding lead in the popularity poll. Maybe this will encourage Akamatsu to focus more on Kuro in the future. I still prefer the Touta/Kuro ship. First boy/girl. Interesting character.

I’m also glad that Kuroumaru took first place. Technically, Kuroumaru is gender neuter, neither male nor female. But I want Kuroumaru to become a lovely girl. But based on how Akamatsu-sensei is doing things, what would be the point since Kirie is being rammed down our throats.

  11. Blacki says:

    Well…. Im somewhat speechless lol…

Seeing the wedding picture of Negi and Chisame is… wow im a huge chisame fan (besides Zazzie) and somewhat… it makes in hinsight the most sense.

Akamatsu-sensei dropped a few hints here in there in Negima… BUT now, that you think about it… its the most logical outcome…

Like the famous Akamatsu-sensei meme: it wouldnt be a Akamatsu manga, if the Herione wouldnt punch the (male) main character…. AND since he ruled out Asuna… was only Chisame left…. We should have seen it coming thought.

Still.. Nagi looks like he saw his best years in the wedding picture which made me LOL hard… His face is like: This may be worse then being possessed by the MotB XD
In short, he looks wasted for me… way wasted.

I like the group picture thought, we even see the kids of the Twins. Still kinda sad that we will never see the other parts, which were written in Negis year book in the end.

On that note, Yuna Akashi is seen here talking with the twins. Im curious if she and the twins children may play a part later, as the twins married royals from mars and Yuna worked like her late mother for the goverment.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

Seeing the wedding picture of Negi and Chisame is… wow im a huge chisame fan (besides Zazzie) and somewhat… it makes in hinsight the most sense.

Having recently reread Negima (though it took forever to do it), I can see how an argument could be made for Chisame. However, at the time, Chisame really wasn’t discussed as the girl for Negi by us fans, at least not that I recall. And I honestly think that for a long time, Asusa was to be the girl, but then that got shifted during the Magic World arc. Even at the end of the manga, Chisame isn’t shown to be the girl. She’s just a recluse who didn’t get married and Negi didn’t get married.

Like the famous Akamatsu-sensei meme: it wouldnt be a Akamatsu manga, if the Herione wouldnt punch the (male) main character…. AND since he ruled out Asuna… was only Chisame left…. We should have seen it coming thought.

Heh! OK, that should have been a blatant clue I suppose. Asuna didn’t get ruled out until the very end of the manga, so that helped obscure things.

Still.. Nagi looks like he saw his best years in the wedding picture which made me LOL hard… His face is like: This may be worse then being possessed by the MotB XD
In short, he looks wasted for me… way wasted.

      Heh! That’s true.

I like the group picture thought, we even see the kids of the Twins. Still kinda sad that we will never see the other parts, which were written in Negis year book in the end.

Yeah, that is a shame. 🙁 Unless Akamatsu-sensei does some kind of one-shot stuff.

      • Blacki says:

Wait a moment… with Nagi marrying Eva… wouldnt it make it that Eva is Negis new “mother” and Chisames mother in law? XD omg…

        • OverMaster says:

Poor Chachamaru has it the worst.

Kurt Godel of all people is her stepdad, Negi is still technically her ancestor (since Chao is her co-mother), Nagi is now technically twice related to her (since he’s Negi’s father, hence also her ancestor, and Eva gave the magic to activate Chacha, so she’s also sort of a third co-mother, making Nagi Chacha’s sort of stepfather and Negi her sort of stepbrother). Chachazero is her sister (and Chamo her brother-in-law?) Negi still winds up every night, so she’s technically his mistress and slash or involved in a three way relationship with her ancestor/stepbrother and her best friend. And her mother Chao hasn’t even been born yet.

        • AstroNerdBoy says:

          Haha! Yes it would.

  12. Yue Ayase says:

I read the Raw. It wasn’t quite the epic battle I envisioned. I’ll need to see a translation but I was kinda disappointed that we didn’t get to see some real showdowns between Negi’s party and the Lifemaker’s. In fact most of the latter just flat out vanished it seems. Oh well.

While I’ve enjoyed these flashbacks, they still serve as a painful reminder of what could’ve been. UQ will never reach the level of epic that Negima had and I can only hope that the anime is not only a faithful adaptation, but successful enough to warrant a re-visiting of a true, Negima anime.

    A man can dream, though.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

I looked at the raw as well. I would say it is clear that Akamatsu-sensei was just eager to get through the Negima stuff and get the UQH folks back.

While I’ve enjoyed these flashbacks, they still serve as a painful reminder of what could’ve been.

      Ain’t that the truth!

BTW, I loved how Yue and Nodoka looked and acted in the combat. 🙂

      • Yue Ayase says:

Yeah, it’s one thing to do this for a weekly, but for a monthly it’s a lot to cover… I’m fine with the flashbacks ending and getting back to the story. After all, the matter of Cutlass still needs to be settled.

Yue and Nodoka are such treasures. I wish more light would be shed on their relationship. Because all signs point to yuri….

    • Dargor says:

That “final battle” was disappointing as hell. It turned into a punching contest between Negi and Not!Nagi, everyone got maybe just a single panel of heroic poses that don’t contribute to anything, and the climax was just a rehash of the Lifemaker fight from Negima. What a ripoff.

      • AstroNerdBoy says:

That whole battle against MotB at the end of the Magic World arc makes little sense to me. That was seemingly Nagi-MotB, but they defeated MotB except they didn’t defeat MotB even though it was MotB…or something.

  13. Mattcgw says:

    Chapters out on Amazon.
    On US time?!

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

Shocking, but even when it was released, it was already the 9th in Japan, so technically the evening of the 8th in the U.S. is a day late. 😉

  14. Eva Chan biggest fan says:

does someone know what became Arika (Negi’s mother) in Negima ? It was never clear for me 🙁

  15. sanchi says:

I am glad Kuromaru got it. He’s the first character of Tota’s age and the closest ‘asian’ or ‘japanese’ (and japanese market) co-character and whose gender is changing to a female, resulting interesting struggles with himself as in gender, and with others. If this manga gets really popular, I’m wondering all the cosplay gender bender costumes of Kuromaru – from boys uniform to sailor ones, and it wouldn’t be hard to create.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

I’m loathe to call Kuroumaru “gender bender,” mainly ’cause at the moment, Kuroumaru is gender neuter. Kuroumaru is like Lal from Star Trek: The Next Generation in that Kuroumaru has no gender and must then pick male or female at the appropriate time or have one chosen for them by their proclivities.

  16. Robert says:

I have thought that Chisame and Negi will get married. Chisame has become a recluse by choice, but she does have a social life on the side. Chisame’s reasons for becoming a recluse are a result of her being a very private person. Even as a recluse by choice, Chisame is aware of how important in maintaining some friends esp. with her fellow Al Alba members. As a recluse, Chisame is able to become one of the greatest hackers on three worlds. Chisame does see her husband as her closet friend. I do want to theorized that one of Chisame’s reasons for her decision to become a recluse is likely a result of her husband’ Negi’s fame. Chisame is a security hacker.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

I do want to theorized that one of Chisame’s reasons for her decision to become a recluse is likely a result of her husband’ Negi’s fame.

She was a recluse before she met Negi. But you could be right.

      • Robert says:

I forgot to point out that Negi had help Chisame to become a more socialable person. Chisame will have some friends despite being a recluse. Oddly, Chisame will be a good mother even if Negi and she had to adopt.
