Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 44Chitose freaks out when she discovers that the apartment where Tsukasa had been living is no longer there. One of her maids reports about the fire and how Tsukasa is safe. On cue, Tsukasa walks by, returning from the store. Chitose stops her and challenges her on where she’s living. Tsukasa takes them to a nearby kid’s park and points to it. Chitose believes her, allowing Tsukasa to give Chitose the slip.

Tsukasa reports what happened to Nasa. However, Tsukasa is again startled when Chitose shows up at the bathhouse. Kaname shows up and states that she has provided accommodations for Nasa and Tsukasa. Tsukasa confirms this, then says that she has to sleep on a towel, using milk bottles as a pillow. Chitose believes this, causing Nasa to feel sorry for her.

Chitose rejects the request from her maids to take a bath. However, Kaname easily gets Chitose to take one. After her bath, Chitose is about to leave, then realizes what’s going on. Chitose asks Tsukasa to stay at her place. Tsukasa says she can’t because her current residence has a Sega Genesis. As such, Chitose ups the ante, offering to throw that console plus a whole ton more into the mix. This causes Aya to pop up and ask to be taken to Chitose’s home.

Thoughts/Review:

Sometimes you have deep chapters and sometimes you have fluff chapters. Tonikaku Cawaii chapter 44 is clearly a case of the later, which isn’t a bad thing.

Chitose the Tsukkomi

The main purpose of Tonikaku Cawaii chapter 44 is to have Chitose doing her tsukkomi comedy routine, though in context of the story, she was dead serious about it all. In Japanese comedy, the tsukkomi is basically the “straight man” in a comedy duo. They get angry and go off on the boke partner. Here, Chitose is going off on pretty much everyone she encounters, even Tsukasa at times.

Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 44

What made this chapter all the more amusing to me is the fact that Chitose is actually performing the role of the boke and tsukkomi. Chitose being angry and frustrated about the situation she finds Tsukasa in provides the tsukkomi elements. But Chitose’s gullibility provides the boke elements. While it is amusing, I still couldn’t help feeling a bit sorry for Chitose.

Still, now that Chitose and Kaname have met, this could provide for some nice comedy moments in future.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

Fluff chapters are difficult to write about, so let me wrap up my limited thoughts on Tonikaku Cawaii chapter 44.

  • In addition to Chitose’s tsukkomi comedy, I had to laugh at how Tsukasa seemed to be genuinely tempted to move, based on all of the video game consoles Chitose offered to buy her.
  • Likewise, I was amused by Aya showing up, wanting to move in with Chitose on the basis of said consoles.

In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii chapter 44 was an amusing fluff chapter that I really enjoyed.
