Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

Taniguchi-sensei struggles with how to confess his feelings for Yanagi-sensei while they are at the amusement park. A nearby couple’s conversation reveals the man there used the same lie of winning the tickets in a lottery. As they continue to walk through the park, they come upon a wedding ceremony being held at one of the attractions. With that, he decisively tells Yanagi-sensei that they should get lunch.

Tsukasa and Nasa happen upon the teachers again. Tsukasa senses a positive change in their atmosphere. Meanwhile, as the fireworks show starts, Yanagi-sensei proposes marriage to Taniguchi-sensei. He confesses his love.

Elsewhere, Nasa and Tsukasa enjoy the fireworks show.

Thoughts/Review:

Wow. Hata-sensei abandons an old trope in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 57. And I for one am glad of it!

Teacher Romance Continues

Hata-sensei continues exploring the romance between Taniguchi-sensei and Yanagi-sensei in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 57. What I liked most about this chapter is how Hata-sensei subverted our expectations. He did this by starting out with the cliched story element of the male teacher who has feelings for the female teacher. He concocts a scheme to get her to go on a date with him while trying to play it casual. Then while on the date, the male can’t properly confess.

Where Hata-sensei starts shaking things up a bit is by having Taniguchi-sensei show a bit of confidence when he talked about the wedding he observed with Yanagi-sensei. And then he showed some decisiveness in determining that it was time for them to do lunch. I liked that.

But where Hata-sensei upends the table is at the end of the chapter. He starts with the cliched fireworks show and a nice guy attempting his confession run. In cliched fashion, which Hata-sensei has used before, the fireworks start. However, it is Yanagi-sensei who proposes marriage to Taniguchi-sensei. Of course, that’s the ultimate green like for a nice guy like Taniguchi-sensei.  And it was so refreshing to not have the fireworks interrupt the confessions in any fashion whatsoever.

MC’s Take a Back Seat

Since Hata-sensei started this manga with our two MCs getting married, I suppose it is only natural that he’d have them take a seat in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 57. That’s because in order to explore the trope of dating and shock us all with actual romantic progress, he had to use supporting characters.

Still, the limited time Nasa and Tsukasa had on screen served its purpose well.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 57 is a delightful little chapter. Hata-sensei doesn’t bother going for cliched failed love confessions and actually has his male and female teacher become a couple at the end of the chapter. I loved it!
