The Helpful Fox Senko-san 06
Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san 06
世話やきキツネの仙狐さん episode 06
Spoiler Summary/Synopsis
Shiro pays Nakano and Senko-san a visit. Since Nakano has the day off, he offers to play games with Shiro. She quickly masters playing video games. As such, Nakano accepts a challenge from her. He’s shocked that he lost a game he’d been playing since college. Senko-san reveals Shiro used clairvoyance to read Nakano’s mind. As Nakano observes things, he realizes that he rather enjoys this family-like atmosphere with Senko-san and Shiro in his apartment.
Senko-san pays Koenji a visit. She brings a meal with her, then cleans Koenji’s apartment. Koenji marvels at how Nakano managed to apparently marry a legal loli. She then decides to have Senko-san try on a maid outfit since she believes Senko-san is a cosplayer. Initially, Senko-san isn’t sure but gets talked into it. Koenji takes a ton of photos, then gives Senko-san the outfit, telling her men love girls in a maid uniform. So when Nakano comes home, Senko-san is wearing it.
Thoughts/Review
For The Helpful Fox Senko-san 06, chapters 11 and 14 of the source manga were used as material. (Update: And omake “chapter 15.5” was also used.) As per usual, some padding was given to the original stories. And as per usual, FUNimation’s adaptation continues to flip us the bird by calling Nakano “Kuroto,” even though the anime has YET to do so.
Adaptation Modifications
For the first part of The Helpful Fox Senko-san 06, the first addition to the source story has Shiro coming to Koenji’s apartment by accident. I’m not sure I care for Shiro meeting Koenji so early. It just makes Koenji look really stupid. I felt the manga’s handling of things was much better since Koenji only has to accept Senko-san as a cosplayer and not add Shiro to the mix.
Next up, the game playing between Shiro and Nakano is heavily extended. No problem there, but it did feel a bit stretched to me. However, I may have been reading too much into things.
For the next addition, we have a very extended edition of Nakano’s reaction to Senko-san in a maid uniform. Again, no real problem there, but I could feel things seem to drag to kill time. (Update: This actually came from an omake chapter “15.5” in the source manga.)
Finally, The Helpful Fox Senko-san 06 cut a moment when Koenji was revealed to start bringing over cosplay outfits for Senko-san to wear. I kinda wish that moment had been left in. Oh well.
More FUNimation Awesomeness
If FUNimation wants me to buy The Helpful Fox Senko-san, not only will they have to have the Japanese honorifics put EVERYWHERE (and not just the translations for the splash screens), they’ll have to remove the horrendously incorrect usage of “Kuroto” in the subs.
I know I’ve already bitched about this before. Nakano has yet to be addressed as “Kuroto” by ANYONE! A boy, whom we are presuming to be Nakano and not his father, has been addressed as Kuroto in a flashback. But that’s it. Also, there’s a HUGE different in Senko-san addressing Nakano as Onushi, which she is using a term of affection. Thus, Onushi could translated as “Dear” and there’d be no complaint from me.
Having Senko-san use a name that NO ONE IS USING to address Nakano is complete and utter rubbish that needs to be taken out and burned! Plus, even if Nakano’s given name is Kuroto, having Senko-san address him as such instead of a term of endearment clashes with the nature of their relationship that we clearly see on screen.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
Finally, does someone hate Dr. Pepper? 😂
In the end, The Helpful Fox Senko-san 06 is a fun romp, despite the padding that caused me to feel the pacing was off. That said, FUNimation’s adaptation continues to piss me off to no end.
