Thoughts/Review:
It has been a while since I could watch some Tonikaku Kawaii (as it should be spelled) goodness. But, that just made me appreciate TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You 06 all the more.
Modifications to the Source Material
In order to create TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You 06, chapters 19, 20, 21, and 22 of the (Tonikaku Cawaii) Fly Me to the Moon manga were used as source material.
In terms of modifications, this episode made very few. Other than minor padding here and there, the episode was pretty faithful to the source material. The only major change was that the anime breast-grab joke was different from the manga.
Small Beginnings
I know it is anecdotal, but there always seems to be a common theme among most married couples. They start their life together in a tiny residence, then move to a bigger place later on. And that theme comes into play in TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You 06. Nasa basically lives in what we used to call a “shoe box apartment” (when I lived in Japan). And I think this episode finally helps visualize this.
That said, this episode also illustrates why skipping some content regarding Nasa and Tsukasa buying a TV and video player was bad. Yeah, I know they did it for time constraints. However, the trip to the video rental place was cut and as such, Tsukasa’s anime, manga, and general DVD collection mentality is missing. As such, I’m not sure how well Nasa’s attempts to tempt Tsukasa with bookcases and such works in the episode.
Nevertheless, she’s agreed to look for a new place.
Marital Amusement
One of the amusing things in TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You 06 is the illustration of what a guy will do for his wife. As such, when Tsukasa opts for the cheaper bus trip, Nasa accepts it. As such, even though he’s not keen to have Tsukasa meet his parent, he does it. And though he finds the bus seats very uncomfortable, for Tsukasa’s sake, he puts up with it. That’s what guys do. As they saying goes, “happy wife, happy life.”
The other bit of amusement comes from Chitose’s cliched, sistercon reaction to Tsukasa being married. Normally, this type of character would annoy me. But I can’t help but like Chitose, thanks to how Hata-sensei crafted the character.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You 06 is a fun episode, setting up the “meet the parents” aspect of a relationship.
