SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Kokkoro arrives at the post office with a large stack of letters. She finds Misaki and Suzuna from Lucent Academy, debating on mailing letters they have. They end up putting their letters in the mailbox once they see they are blocking Kokkoro. However, bandits arrive to rob the post office. They steal the letters from the mailbox as well. As such, Kokkoro, Misaki, and Suzuna decide to get the letters back.

Princess Connect! Re:Dive Season 2 - 08

On the way to the bandit location, Misaki and Suzuna reveal they had letters to transfer out of Lucent Academy as their test scores were harming the school. Plus, they didn’t want to be a burden to their instructor, Io. At the bandit camp, Misaki attempts seduction to distract the bandits, but fails.

At the palace, Karyl sees her Queen on a terrace. She attempts to reach her, but fails. The Queen is suddenly in a giant bath, but knows Karyl is there. Elsewhere, Yuuki contemplates the vision he had of his old guild. He ends up discussing it with Labyrista. Out in the country, Pecorine takes a break from harvesting rice and worries what Yuuki and Karyl will do if they learn her secret.

Meanwhile, Kokkoro and Suzuna rescue Misaki and snag their letters. They flee the bandits and are saved by Io and Tomo (Nightmare), leading palace troops. The girls decide not to mail their letters. Back at the fields, Yuuki and Karyl join Pecorine in the harvest. Kokkoro arrives with a majority of the people they’ve befriended. Pecorine is touched by this and tells Kokkoro she will reveal her secret to Karyl and Yuuki.

Thoughts/Review:

If you are going to do some filler side story, putting in some plot elements will make it better. And thankfully, that’s what the writers of Princess Connect! Re:Dive Season 2 – 08 did.

Kokkoro’s Adventure

It is rather unusual for the crew of Gourmet Guild to be split up as they are in Princess Connect! Re:Dive Season 2 – 08. While Yuuki, Pecorine, and Karyl (to a lesser extent) were dealing with plot elements, Kokkoro had nothing to do. Thus we are introduced to two more game characters and a story is created to deal with them.

Princess Connect! Re:Dive Season 2 - 08

One weird thing about this adventure is the lack of worry about the monies and such that other people had stored with the post office. I get that the letters were super important to all three girls. But at least say that you’ll get help to deal with the bandits and restore the stolen treasures.

Princess Connect! Re:Dive Season 2 - 08

I’m kinda bummed that only Suzuna turned to fight the bandits when they fled. Even if the bandits were too much for the trio, at least put up somewhat of a fight. But alas, that was not to be.

Plot Elements

We had some interesting plot elements show up in Princess Connect! Re:Dive Season 2 – 08. First was Pecorine, dealing with her demons. I understand her fear of being forgotten. In that light, it is kind of amazing that she’d go off solo to a rice field and work the harvest. (Which as an aside, whom was she doing it for?) That aside, I am glad that Pecorine finally decided to open up to Yuuki and Karyl.

Princess Connect! Re:Dive Season 2 - 08

Next up is Yuuki. It kind of annoys me that the writers have him continue to act so child-like. Yet in this one instance, Yuuki becomes serious. When he talks to Labyrista about his vision regarding his old guild, he finally felt like a real character. Interesting that Yuuki apparently doesn’t say anything about his “real world” visions.

Princess Connect! Re:Dive Season 2 - 08

Finally, there’s Karyl. Her role in the plot element of the episode is to not only remind us of her devotion to her queen, but also to show us that The Queen has apparently taken Metamorregnant’s powers to “clone” herself.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

Let me wrap up my review of Princess Connect! Re:Dive Season 2 – 08 with some final thoughts.

  • Man, I hate rubbish (“localization rules!”) adaptations. I’ve long hated how the oh so smart “localizers” changed Kary’s “Korosuke” to whatever rubbish she says in the subs. For this episode, “Koro-chi” becomes “Kokie”. 😑
  • Further, Misaki and Suzuna have an informal relationship with their teacher, Io. As such, one calls her “Io-chan” and apparently the other calls her “Chan-Io”. But since informal relationships are stupid, and we can’t have filthy non-English rubbish in the subs, the informal Io-chan becomes “Miss Io”. Piss off!
  • It was interesting to note some of the folks not there at the end of the episode.

Princess Connect! Re:Dive Season 2 - 08

In the end, the side story of Princess Connect! Re:Dive Season 2 – 08 was just “meh”, but the plot elements in the episode were cool.

  1. Atomic Beast says:

Yuuki was probably thinking about the real world but the love he had for his comrades (present and past) are top priority for him and he wants to make sure they are safe.

Speaking of comrades, it didn’t matter who Pecorine was helping for. It just shows how Pecorine is devoted to her people much like Yuuki does but in stark contrast to the psychotic witch that is Karyl’s master.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

Well, it may not matter. But it would have been nice to know this was a guild quest or the like. I kept thinking, “where are the people who own this farmland and why aren’t they out here harvesting rice?” 😅
