Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

In 784 BC, Tsukasa saves a young boy who had jumped off a cliff. When asked why he did it, Tsukasa learns that the boy underwent a test of his Buddhist faith. Tsukasa flings the boy to the top of the cliff, then falls to her death.

Seven years later, the boy goes to his uncle’s home (Ato no Ootari). He recognizes her as his angel. Ato questions what “Nee-sama” did this time. The boy, named Saeki no Mao (Kukai), explains what happened. Ato decides Tsukasa can become Mao’s teacher in Confucius.

As Tsukasa teaches Mao, she tells him that her only wish is to become mortal and die. She scolds him for his poor penmanship. However, he ponders what Tsukasa really meant.

Thoughts/Review:

Wow. I did not expect Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 249 to go into a massive flashback. I’m pretty sure I saw Mao in one of the splash pages. The theme seems to tie into what Tsukasa said about Himari. As she puts it, when she saves a kid, it doesn’t go well. But, considering that this Mao kid is an actual, historical, Japanese figure, I suppose the chapter will be to prove her wrong. I could be wrong ’cause I know nothing about Saeki no Mao.

It is always interesting to see part of Tsukasa’s past, especially in her relationships with historical, Japanese figures. So from that aspect, I am looking forward to learning more. However, I was kinda into the Himari x Asimo flirtations, so I guess that’s on hold for a while. Oh well.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 249 is an unexpected, deep flashback into Tsukasa’s past. We’ll see how this story reflects on how Tsukasa saved Himari.
