SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

However, Fairy Nail is an entertainment guild, filled with actors, idols, models, singers, comedians, etc. After spending some time there, Team Natsu returns to the train. However, Erza turns out to be Elkis as Erza wanted to stay behind to (badly) use her acting chops.

Thoughts/Review:

There are some dumb but fun elements in Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 08. And then to get to one of two plot twists, there’s some insane levels of stupidity.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 08

Fairy Nail

The whole concept of Fairy Nail in Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 08 makes zero sense. I know in the original Fairy Tail, the group went to another world, where another Fairy Tail existed. However, as far as I know, Fairy Nail does not exist on another world. It exists on another continent. So there’s ZERO logic to have any of these Fairy Tail “clones” here, other than for the laughs. 🙄 Fine, whatever.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 08

Beyond that, Fairy Nail didn’t really serve a purpose. I suppose it was a way for the writers to have cheap gags with a pretend Fairy Tail group. Okay, it is amusing to see these alternate Fairy Tail folks, but at the same time, it makes ZERO sense.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 08

The only story element that causes me to suspend my disbelief is the part of the story where Gray opens up to Juvina about Juvia. I’ve been a HUGE fan of the Gray x Juvia ship since Juvia’s introduction to the franchise. At that time, Juvia had to battle Gray and fell for him. I liked that this episode referenced that fight in a casual way. So it was nice seeing Gray confirm his feelings for Juvia.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 08

Wood Dragon

While the first two-thirds of Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 08 may have been “dumb fun”, the last third had a lot of stupidity. That’s a shame since the reveal that the members of the Saint Raishen Church are in fact the enthralled members of Fairy Tail. It seems like the story has set up am interesting situation to where Natsu, Lucy, Erza, and Happy will have to fight their guildmates.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 08

Considering Juvia broke her conditioning, I’m guessing she’ll be the key to the resolution once she wakes up. It would be really cool if after this part of the story is over, Juvia is able to travel with Team Natsu. She’s done this previously. And I can’t imagine Elefseria would object to her joining, providing she signed the paper. We’ll see what Mashima-sensei does.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 08

That aside, where this part of the story fails is the wood dragon god, Aldoron. I don’t have a problem with the city of Drasil getting built on the dragon’s claw. What I do have a problem with is the reveal. How did no one see this when they arrived in the city? Even if you say that Aldoron only rises at night, how the smeg does a railroad exist to Drasil? When the dragon rises, the cities are all massively elevated from the actual ground.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 08

Further, how’d Lucy not notice the giant claw in the map until the plot required it? That’s the kind of trash writing that annoys me so much. This reveal could have worked IF the dragon perfectly blended in so that it looked like a small mountain. Instead, there’s no chance for a rail line to run to any of those cities on the dragon’s back.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

Let me wrap up my review with some final thoughts.

  • I noticed some liberties taken in the subtitle translations. While I appreciate the honorific usage, I don’t appreciate “clever” rewrites.
  • The “-sama” honorific gag went over well with me. Two people wouldn’t address each other with the “-sama” honorific. It was one of the things that drove me bonkers in FX’s Shogun adaptation.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 08

In the end, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 08 had some interesting elements, but also some insanely stupid elements as well.
