Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 99 Manga Review

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

With the defeat of Haku, Natsu, Lucy, and Happy return to their normal form. This amuses Selene, though she notices something off about the labyrinth dungeon. Inside, the maze changes forms, making Erza’s mapping efforts pointless. Further, the ground opens beneath folks, causing them to fall to lower levels. This causes an end to Kirin’s fight with Laxus. Both vow to resume at some point.

After Gajeel falls on Gray, they plus Erza and Charle (Carla) attempt to get their bearings. Misaki from Diabolos shows up, looking for Kiria. Misaki attacks Erza, obliterating her armor. In her next attack, she cuts Erza’s long locks.

Elsewhere, Lucy lands at a sneering Kiria’s feet. In another part of the dungeon, Natsu encounters Suzaku.

Thoughts/Review:

I honestly expected Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 99 to feature Laxus’s fight with Kirin. In fact, I expected Laxus would triumph in the chapter. At the same time, I expected little things to indicate the status of other party members.

What I didn’t expect was the dungeon rearranging itself and sending everyone to lower levels. I guess that’s one way to end a fight, though I suspect we’ll see Laxus and Kirin encounter each other again. Regardless, I suppose the labyrinth moving indicates it is alive, or someone alive is manipulating it.

Another unexpected moment was Erza getting her hair sliced short. It’s not often where a long haired girl has something cause her to get it chopped. (Ranma 1/2, and Love Hina spring to mind.) It would be interesting if she kept this bob haircut for a while.

That aside, this is the first time we’ve seen Misaki in action. And considering how she blew through Erza’s armor, I expect we’ll end up seeing a combination of some new armor we’ve never seen, and Erza showing that she doesn’t need armor to win.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 99 is mostly shounen fair. There is a bit of the usual comedy, including a cameo by Juvia and Levy, where after Gray lands on Erza after a fall, Juvia’s “love rival” detector thinks Gajeel his hitting on Gray.
