Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

Serie passes Denken because he briefly considered how it would be to engage her in combat. For Übel, Serie passes her just from glancing at her. Land shows up, causing Serie to call him out for sending a clone. The second Land reveals himself, but again, Serie calls him out for never leaving his home village, figuring he was enjoying a cup of tea. She passes him for his guile.

Wirbel pleases Serie for his answer to her question on favorite magic and passes him. Finally, Methode gets passed when she reveals that she thought Serie was small and cute. Exams over, Serie apologizes to Sense, stating that they really had a good crop of first class mage candidates. Fern joins Frieren as Denken approaches and thanks Frieren.

Later, Fern and Stark encounter Denken and Laufen at a bakery. He buys various cookies and such, where they sit, eat, and chat. Elsewhere, Frieren observes Wirbel helping an old lady. They have a long chat. That evening, Fern tries to bring Frieren and Stark as her guests to the privilege ceremony. However, Serie banned Frieren from all Mage Association facilities for 1000 years.

That night while Stark and Frieren wait for Fern, Lernen attempts to challenge Frieren, even attacking her. She declines and reveals a truth about Serie to him. The next day, Frieren’s party leave Äußerst. On the bridge out of the city, Kanne and Lawine say their goodbyes.

Thoughts/Review

And so this series ends for now with Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End 28. I’m glad all of the exam takers for this final episodes got passed. It is amazing to see Serie in action, not in a combat sense, but in an intellectual sense. At a glance, she is quickly able to size up the exam taker, knowing their thoughts and such. It is pretty amazing to tell the truth.

Übel’s test was humorous. Serie had to know about Übel’s previous test. I suppose Serie wants someone who can kill like Übel or even Wirbel. Of course, Land became the ultra chad lad with his exam. I remember the revelation that he never left home putting me on the floor. That means he was never once in danger. He would be an amazing asset for Serie’s Mage Association.

Speaking of Serie, although she always complains that her students, including the legendary Flamme, never lived up to her expectations, she’s never forgotten them. The episode implies that Serie may have used the “worthless” spell to generate the flowerbeds in the arboretum (or whatever it was). I thought that was a nice character moment for her.

Finally, I like the grandfather/granddaughter relationship between Denken and Laufen. Alas, I don’t think that goes anywhere. Also, it is fun how Wirbel, Scharf, and Ehre have become a team of sorts. I don’t remember if we see any of them in future or not. We will see Methode again, which is cool. And I liked Frieren’s conversation with Wirbel.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End 28 is another amazing episode in an amazing anime series that is certainly in my top-5 anime list. I’ll try to do a series review soon.
