SPOILER Summary/Synopsis

Lupin, Jigen, and Goemon are in a rowboat, looking for babes. When Goemon spots one, it turns out to be a trap by Zenigata to nail Lupin. It doesn’t take Lupin long to escape and ditch Zenigata. When they come to their luxury hotel room, they find strangers there. Turns out, it is Fujiko and a clearly disguised man, who saved Lupin from Zenigata, who was in Lupin’s real room.

The bearded man wants Lupin to steal the gold in the Switzerland Bank. Lupin agrees, but gets annoyed when he, Jigen, and Goemon are also tasked with melting the gold down, pouring it into a truck body cast, painting it, and driving it away. Zenigata quickly finds them, so everyone abandons the truck when the tires get shot.

Zenigata pursues Lupin, Jigen, and Goemon, so they ditch him in a river. Goemon feels the bearded man is selling them out. They are surprised to find the truck still there when they return. However, Zenigata is waiting and the truck isn’t the gold one. Again, the gang ditch Zenigata while Fujiko and the bearded man celebrate. The man reveals himself to be the president of the bank, who’s drugged Fujiko’s drink.

Meanwhile, Lupin, Jigen, and Goemon scarf food when they see the truck, driven by the bank president, drive up. They move to confront him when Fujiko drives up to do the same. Zenigata shows up, so Fujiko steals the truck. She has an accident and drives into the ocean. Zenigata recovers the truck and arrests the president. Lupin saves Fujiko despite his friend’s protests.

Thoughts/Review

Ugh. Lupin the 3rd: Part II 05 is another tedious episode. All of the plot elements have been done countless times. Maybe they weren’t so stale at the time the episode was released, but they are now. As such, I figured the obviously disguised man would be the bank president. The ONLY surprise was Fujiko wasn’t in on that aspect from the start.

It was pretty clear that they’d turn the gold into a vehicle. I also figured that Fujiko or the man was the one who kept selling Lupin out to Zenigata. However, this makes Zenigata a complete buffoon since Lupin and company easily escape and elude him. That aside, I also figured that Fujiko would betray Lupin, and that the man would betray Fujiko. Boring!

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Lupin the 3rd: Part II 05 was a boring “been there, done that” episode.
