SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Elefseria tells everyone the story of the founding of the first wizard guild, Magia Dragon. He also states how he organized the guild to help society despite society persecuting them. Thus the quest system got its start. However, a dragon attack wiped out many of the wizards, forcing them to research ancient dragon slayer magic and form dragon slayers.

However, by the time humans were able to deal with normal dragons, the dragon gods appeared. Thousands of wizards died and only Elefseria succeeded in taking one down, but at a cost. For 100 years, no one had been able to deal with the remaining five dragon gods until Fairy Tail.

Selene tells Elefseria and the others that she will be dying soon. Although she appears okay now, in fact, Ignia gave her a mortal wound. Wounds inflicted on dragons by other dragons cannot be healed. That said, she claims to like humans even though she killed a lot who’d come to kill her. She lays out a case on how dragons and humans are not dissimilar. Thus she needed a weapon to deal with Ignia and Viernes dragon gods.

That evening, Suzaku attempts to apologize to Selene for killing and consuming her son, Kurunugi. She explains why she why she’s okay with this. However, she has a final task and calls out Irene.

Thoughts/Review:

I got whiplash from reading Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 120. In the previous chapter, Selene is fine. Now, we learn that in fact, this is a lie. She’s apparently using the last of her magic to appear normal, but will die fairly soon. I suppose that matches with Wendy’s inability to heal Selene. But I don’t understand why Selene would just lie, then confess.

Nevertheless, we have the redemption of Selene pretty much complete. Now she can die…maybe. I add that qualifier ’cause Irene shows up at the end of the chapter. She may be in astral form, but Selene sees her. Considering Irene’s powers as a mage, she may have some way to keep Selene alive. It wouldn’t surprise me if Irene merges with Selene, and that combination heals Selene. We’ll see though.

We also get to see more history of how wizard guilds were established as well as dragon slayer magics. So that was neat.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 120 made for an interesting lore chapter as well as appearing to mostly complete Selene’s redemption arc.
