Sōsō no Frieren Chapter 141

Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

Sense serves a very relaxed Serie cake and drink. At Frieren’s table, she tells Fern to have some cake. Both Fern and Stark express that things are different from what they expected. Frieren explains why waiting and remaining calm is the best plan. So rather than take the enemy’s bait and trigger a war, they’ll wait. She prompts Fern to have a dance, so Fern asks Stark and off they go.

Meanwhile, Grau and Lager from the Magic Special Forces catch Sense’s eye and discuss the situation. Elsewhere, Captain Fräse takes a briefing from Vice-Captain Kanone about the Shadow Warriors. They apparently have less intel than the Continental Magic Association has on the Shadow Warriors. She orders they remain vigilant for attack.

Back in the ballroom, Shadow Warriors Clematis, Gazelle, Iris, and Routine discuss their situation. He predicts that the ball will almost certainly conclude without incident, meaning the fight will happen afterward between the three factions. Clematis suggests they go dance. Iris thinks he’s joking, but he’s not. Iris leaves to go on patrol. Clematis sends Routine to join her. As they walk, Iris senses someone longing for a fight.

At the same time, Land trails Übel, pondering if he need to put a leash on her. She suggests he find one.

Thoughts/Review

Man, I’ve got to give a shout out to the Frieren Fandom wiki. Their character section is top-rate and seriously helped when it came to remembering characters in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Chapter 141. And now, to get back into the story.

Tense Party

We get a ton of exposition in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Chapter 141. However, considering the hiatus, I feel that Yamada-sensei did a good job getting folks up to speed. Frieren gets to expound on the Continental Magic Association plan. Clematis explains the Shadow Warrior plan. We also get the Magic Special Forces plan between new characters and the leaders of the faction. It is wordy, but it works.

I like how we get to see some of the tension and the uncertainty in both the Shadow Warriors and the CMA. At the same time, the experience folks like Frieren and Clematis. Interestingly enough, both encouraged the younger members to have a dance. While Iris may not have obliged, Fern and Stark took a dance together, which was lovely. Should this chapter get an anime adaptation, I’m hoping for a bit more of that than what we got in this chapter.

I really have no thoughts on Magic Special Forces faction. They aren’t party goers and so had more of a business approach to things.

Finally, good old Übel seems to have triggered Iris’s “Spider Senses”. Übel and Land are such a good team. Their banter about her needing a leash made me smile. But I won’t say that she’ll start crap with the Shadow Warriors or Magic Special Forces. We’ll see though.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Chapter 141 is more of a recap chapter, setting the stage for what’s to come. After such a lengthy hiatus, this was just what the doctor ordered. Sadly, folks are saying the chapter has a break next week.
