Keroro Gunsou Episode 137
ケロロ軍曹/Sgt. Frog Anime Review
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Keroro plans an BBQ excursion with the platoon plus Fuyuki and Natsumi. However, instead of buying beef, he buys limited edition Gunpla models. After getting found out by the platoon, a couple of “Childish” aliens, who are allied with Keron, request Keroro’s help selling tickets. Keroro agrees for a percentage of the take. The platoon bails on him and go on a picnic. However, they feel guilty for abandoning Keroro, who hasn’t sold anything. Thus the return for a tearful reunion.
With the failure of the excursion, Keroro decides to try a sukiyaki party. However, after dispatching Giroro and Tamama, he realizes he forgot to tell them to purchase shirataki, a translucent, gelatinous noodle. Natsumi and Fuyuki aren’t concerned about this, so the sukiyaki party starts. Since Keroro is still worried about the noodles, Natsumi goes to buy some. Kururu arrives, takes all of the expensive meat, and makes himself a curry.
With all the meat gone, Keroro, Giroro, and Tamama start fighting. Dororo gets knocked out and Kururu enjoys the spectacle. When Natsumi returns with this shirataki, she gets angry at the ongoing fight. She regrets eating sukiyaki with invaders. Upon hearing the word, the platoon, sans the unconscious Dororo, remember their mission and do a resonance. However, Natsumi makes them clean up the mess first.
Thoughts/Review:
Whenever I hear younger, adult anime fans say that anime isn’t for kids, an episode like Keroro Gunsou Episode 137 reminds me of just how wrong they are. The first story is harmless enough. It seems to be about teaching kids the value of working together when you are a team. Never mind that Keroro put himself into that situation where he had to try to earn money to make it up to everyone. Otherwise, the resolution was rather eye-rolling.
For the second story, once the narrator started harping on and on about how Keroro’s platoon are supposed to be invaders, I knew what was in store. Granted, I didn’t know Kururu was going to come in and be a giant hog, but that kind of joke where someone hogs the expensive beef isn’t uncommon in anime. Regardless, hearing Natsumi regret doing something with invaders is a laugh, considering how many fun things she’s done with these same invaders. Whatever.
As such, I guess we are in for more utterly predictable invasion gone wrong stories. And to think, this series is still ongoing in Japan. 😅
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, Keroro Gunsou Episode 137 is a forgettable episode, beyond making me want sukiyaki.
