Here is a SPOILER image for the upcoming UQ Holder chapter 59, courtesy of Manga Kansou. (My review of UQ Holder chapter 59 should come out Wednesday.)
UQ HOLDER CHAPTER 59 SPOILERS
The UQ Holder chapter 59 goodness begins.^_^
So, we do get to see Santa battling still, which I believe is to get him to Sayoko.
Despite its ecchi nature, this scene is rather sweet on the surface. I really do hope that Sayoko gets redeemed, frees Kirie from her disease, then when Kirie resets everything, Sayoko comes back with Santa, only this time, she doesn’t unleash hell on Earth. I really do want to see Sayoko and Santa as a couple, working with UQ Holder.
Assuming gracious ChaosProphet swings by with a translation, it will be interesting to learn if what I think I saw was correct. I got the feeling that Santa didn’t commit suicide, but was murdered. I could be VERY wrong about this, so I don’t want to say a lot. I did originally think that Santa might have been killed as a result of bullying, but then things shifted so that it seemed like he committed suicide. We’ll see how it actually pans out.
OK, if ChaosProphet has a translation, or if more info shows up, I’ll be sure to update this entry.
UQ Holder Chapter 59 Update #1:
A bit of a resumed version of MK’s spoilers. Be warned there is more to the chapter specially before and after the recollection:
As a Sworn Friend
Touta tells Santa he will leave Sayoko to him. Then he thanks Shinji who was really scared for bringing him saying he was really brave. Touta then goes off to fight Kuroumaru.
Then there is some talk between Santa and Shinj about why he came to help him. Santa ultimately thanks him and goes to fight Sayoko.
Santa’s recollection:
Sayoko tell Santa, who didn’t have the memories about his death, that he didn’t commit suicide, but was actually murdered because he was inconvenient. The parents of the perpetrators used their influence with the school and police so the case was left as unanswered.
Sayoko complains it always have been like that, that it only get worse with the years. Those people always get away with it. She can’t forgive them.
When she accomplishes her revenge, she shows Santa his murderers gruesome appearance. Santa is surprised at the sight and ask if they’re alive.
Sayoko laughs and says it’s a present to Santa. With a smiling face she tells him to not worry, they’re still alive as it’s Santa right to revenge.
“Look! If you do this they let a funny cry!” Sayoko uses an impact driver making them shriek. Santa sees that and run away secluding himself in the toiled.
Sayoko “I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I thought you would be pleased by it.”
Santa “Pleased? You’re weird. You’re weird… probably from the beginning.”
Sayoko tells him she wouldn’t do that again but Santa says he now understood that the world is hell anywhere and asks her to erase him.Sayoko asks him to please not say that. She don’t have much time left. She had her resolution, but now don’t think she can take her last 8 years without Santa.
Even then Santa asks her again to erase him.
Sayoko “No… If you’re going to disappear, then changing your memory…”
Recollection ends
As he gets near Sayoko Santa thinks how things may not have turned that way if he had stayed with her. When he is getting near the skeletons appear again. Santa beats them back and hugs Sayoko.
Santa “I will die with you, so lets have a tour together in hell”.
Because Sayoko isn’t in the picture of those 12, I never expected her to be working with UQH (as a number holder) in the future. I forgot that we don’t know if she’s immortal or not (I think she’s not, but I’m not sure) and only the number holders are immortal. Now I start hoping to see her get redeemed and join UQH with Santa as well.
I’ve seen a lot of things similar to this happening, but this is pretty good. I guess though, worst thing that could happen is Sayoko vanishes. Which high possibilty that would happen.

As always, thanks for the translation! ^_^
Aaarg! I wanted more of shares or revelations about the origins of powers Sayako (the lifemaker he strikes again? ^^) Not another flashback pink candy lol. But hey, at moin it is confirmed that the memory of Santa was falsified, thus definitely makes obsolete the previous santa age (80 years), it is probably the age of Sayako.
Anyway I’m glad this arc that ends, I started to find heavy. It’s not that recent chapters bored, itwas the opposite in fact. But I want to learn more about UQ Holder, Fate, the life-maker, Negi, Tota, Kuromaru, the 2050 events and of course 2065 ect. This arc if we did not learned much essential compared to the slum arc or Fate arc, which were full of information.
Now if Sayako gaves us a shock revelation style : “I got my powers (the method to absorb the souls) of an istrange man in hooded black robe” … There my apreciation will be different lol ^^.
Just this to say: sooooo sad…! ;_;
Yep
This Sayoko isn’t the same “Sayo” that came out in Negima right?
Unconfirmed. I don’t think so either, but It would be an interesting twist if they are actually the same.
I think the same thing. In fact not only it would be VERY interesting (and it would give more charisma to EXTREMELY secondary character from the previous manga lol), but mostly it would be the perfect way to explain why Sayo has not tried to stop Sayako. Logic would as the same character!^^
After the change of appearance can be explained by the fact that she has absorbed many souls. After all use magia-erebea changes the appearance of the user. This is surely not the only spell or technique that produces this effect.
The only bug of this theory is the airship. Sayoko said that he was already there before her birth. Sayo being born in 1920-1930 … Well that’s what it seems difficult to link them…
Anyway, it seems to me that the first dirigible appeared in the late XIXe century right? We do not know when was the airship Mahora. It may very property beginning in early 1900. ^^
What do you think Cold-Menthol? ^^
sayo is asakura guardian spirit now
Asakura is probably dead by now.
Well, I’m not really a fan of Sayo=Sayoko theory, so I don’t have much to say. I can only say, for an excellent mage like MOTB, memory modification shouldn’t be too hard.
Nothing seems to indicate that.
Probably not the same. Just thought of it because I was reading the old Negima manga and thought why two ghosts with the same name? Same hair style actually, just different color, living in the same school. So figured may be she may get lonely after everyone’s gone, seen all these magic students enrolling over the years and saw the bullies so it turned her this way. Could be over analyzing it of course, the old Sayo couldn’t do magic after all.
The names aren’t the same. They’re sound similar but written completely different in Japanese. Sayo is in hiragana “さよ”, while sayoko is written in kanji “小夜子” with the first two kanjis having the reading sayo.Their surnames are also different with Sayo being Aisaka and Sayoko being Minase (from chapter 58). In any case, I think it’s unlikely, although wouldn’t consider it impossible.
Pshaw theory “Sayo badass in dark mode” is dead. Thank you to our expert in Japanese writing chaos-sama! ^^
It’s not that she “could not practice magic” in the akamatsuvers everyone can learn it. Although UQ holder was ambiguous on the subject for a while, flashbacks of Santa have confirmed this fact. He told Sayako “I try to learn magic by myself (without master) and was difficult.” This means although it gets there, it’s hard but it gets there. Still has a second-ranking student a “non-wilder.”
This means to me that “Wilders” do not have “gift” for magic. They just find it easier than others to learn (and more monies for their magical studies also ^^).
My point is that Sayo could very well have learned magic in the interval between Negima and Uq Holder, since even a ghost as Sayako can practice magic, it is not absurd to think that a ghost can even learn the magic of post-Morthem way.
So actually nothing invalidates the theory “Sayo = Sayoko” for now
Yeah, I agree. If anything, Sayo moved on, though I thought it would have been interesting for her to be a teacher at school in an artificial body.
