夏のあらし!春夏冬中 Episode 04 Review
Summer Storm! Open for Business Ep. 04
Natsu no Arashi! Akinai-chuu – 04
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Jun is angry with her older sister for not doing laundry. However, Kaja has done some laundry and it is hanging out to dry until a sudden downpour hits and the laundry is soaked. When Arashi calls to say that she and Hajime will be over as soon as the rain stops, Jun is in a panic because she’s afraid Hajime will find out. Further, she has no male clothing clean and is desperate to find something to wear. For some reason, she puts on a wedding dress without thinking and with Kaja’s help, attempts to hide pictures showing her as a girl. The rain stops and Arashi and Hajime arrive with Jun getting caught by Hajime, who now thinks Jun is a cross-dresser.
After having some cream puffs (where Arashi takes some that Kaja was saving for later), Hajime decides it is time to go on a scavenger hunt. He’s looking for Jun’s hidden stash of porn but Jun thinks he’s looking for evidence to prove she’s a girl. Kaja decides to help Jun out after Jun tries hiding a box with her sailor winter school uniform in it. This results in them going a few years back into the past where Kaja’s last strawberry cream puff is destroyed, resulting in Jun’s wedding dress becoming stained. A young Jun arrives just in time to hear Kaja wailing over her lost dessert and to see a “bloody bride” before they return to the present.
After they return and Jun’s sister sees her in the stained wedding dress, she remembers how Jun was convinced she’d been visited by a bloody bride and thus hated wedding dresses. Jun realizes that Hajime is the cause of one of her childhood fears and isn’t happy. However, Hajime tells Jun that he heard from Jun’s sister that what he was looking for had been thrown out. Jun is confused about this and Hajime doesn’t want to say in front of the girls, so he whispers that he’d been looking for Jun’s porn, leading Jun to be shocked and dismayed by Hajime’s thinking.
Thoughts/Review:
Well, looks like we had a change of translators for Crunchyroll and someone who thinks that anime should be domesticated at all costs…unless they are speaking German in which case we’ll leave the German untranslated because German is cool (apparently…unless it comes to Kaja’s name and then we can’t spell that right now can we?). Obviously, Japanese honorifics suck so frankly why bother with a Japanese perspective even though that’s what we’ve been doing for the ENTIRE SERIES TO DATE! Seriously, the subtitles sometimes read like some speed-sub group who doesn’t care about getting it right, only about getting it out there. What the bloody heck is going on with Crunchyroll? And they want me to pay for filth like this? You must be joking!
OK, getting to the episode itself, SHAFT managed to pull a funny one out of their hat, something that hasn’t really happened too much of late. Then again having Jun in a wedding dress nearly the whole episode was funny enough, but then getting her older sister, Kaja, and even Arashi in on hiding the evidence from Hajime’s probing made it funnier, even though most of the jokes were very obvious. Then, there was Hajime’s quest to find Jun’s stash of porn (because that’s a common joke in manga about guys having their precious “treasure” hidden somewhere). Going through the motions and the timing of things (such as the panties in the fridge) worked quite well so kudos to SHAFT.
The stuff at The Ark was “meh” and simply used to fill time.
I still dislike the whole Yayoi/Kanako joke about reading or now making a simple food and ultimately failing. I don’t like the salt joke either. However, SHAFT feels the need to keep ramming them down our throats. *_*
So, outside of the Crunchyroll fail, an enjoyable episode and I think the funniest one of the current series.
