Space Battleship Yamato 03
Uchuu Senkan Yamato Episode 03
宇宙戦艦ヤマト Ep. 03 (TV, Anime)

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Supreme Ruler Desler authorizes his commander on the Gamilon base on Pluto to launch a large, long-range missile which will take out the Yamato. On Earth, Captain Okita briefs the crew as to their mission and tells them that those wishing to leave may do so during the parade. During the parade, the survivors of Earth send off the crew and no one has quit. Okita gives Daisuke and Susumu a tour of the ship and its weapons, aided at times by Yuki and Sado-sensei. They also meet Chief Engineer Tokugawa, whom Susumu questions about Okita’s ability to get them through this mission alive. Susumu then meets the heads of various departments that will report to him on ship.

Meanwhile at the Earth Defense Forces HQ, the missile has long been spotted and its target is now known. Susumu reports this to the captain who then reports to the bridge. Daisuke fails to get the sub-engines started so the ship can take off due to his forgetting a step. He retries and while it initially seems to fail, the engines to fire up and the Yamato is off the ground. Susumu takes control of Yamato‘s weapons and before the large warhead can destroy Yamato, the Yamato shots the missile, setting off a massive nuclear blast. However, the Yamato survives and carries on.

Thoughts/Review:

OK, so Earth’s final warship warship is discovered and takes out an enemy carrier. So what do the humans do? Why have a parade. Yeah, that’s some smarts, y’all. I’d be like, “time to get the frack out of Dodge, get what we need, and get back with time to spare.” Well, people did need to say their goodbyes, eh?

Well, the writers needed to give the audience a tour of the Yamato as well, so while the missile comes to attack, we see everything about the ship. Then after the tour and the Yamato learns of the missile, lets waste time by running to tell the captain instead of using a communication system. I guess we needed to build the tension.

When the Yamato was trying to take off and failing, I kept hearing Princess Leah say, “You came in that bucket of bolts? You’re braver than I thought.”

So basically, we have an episode to say how cool our ship is. Hopefully, there aren’t a lot more time-wasting episodes like this.
