SPOILER Summary/Synopsis: Yuuko-san enters her treasure room where she communicates with someone off camera about the status of the room and her desire to protect it. She looks at the Star Staff from Sakura-chan (Cardcaptor Sakura) which is the price she paid. Yuuko-san goes on about how Watanuki and Syaoran (Tsubasa) are in fact the same person who split, just as the single egg Sakura (Tsubasa) used as payment for a wish became two. Yuuko-san talks more about Watanuki’s existence, how it was such (with a different name than Syaoran and a lack of memory) that Fei Wong Reed was unable to discover his whereabouts. The difference in appearance of Syaoran and Watanuki is also due to the wish of their parents.

Thoughts/Review: This chapter is where I believe it becomes extremely difficult to know what the heck is going on without having read the corresponding Tsubasa chapter. I have read it, and it goes into greater detail on how Watanuki was created as part of Syaoran’s wish to save Sakura-hime in Tsubasa (before Syaoran was captured and imprisoned).

This chapter is also quite weird in a way. For starters, just who is Yuuko-san talking to in the treasure room? Obviously it is done for our benefit (so we can get some major exposition).

The complex nature of Syaoran and Watanuki now being the same person makes things even weirder. I for one never anticipated that CLAMP would make Watanuki and Syaoran the same person. I’ve heard people questioning if this is in fact what CLAMP planned all along. I would say “yes” simply because I can’t believe they’d just be making it up as they go and now that it is getting closer to time to end the manga’s run, they needed something to shut things down.

We’ll see how things continue. While the information learned about Watanuki is good, it won’t mean as much without having read Tsubasa.
