Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 136 Manga Review
フェアリーテイル 100年クエスト
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
After Duke heavily damages Athena, the enraged Natsu attempts to attack Duke. However, his attack is intercepted by god-Serana. Natsu comes up short in his fight with Serana, but seeing the shocked and damaged Athena causes Natsu’s rage to rise again. As he comes in for an attack, all of Team Natsu and Sabertooth are teleported away.
To their amazement, they find themselves at the Magia Dragon guild hall. Elefseria reveals he teleported them there along with Athena. He also reveals he brought back Minerva, Erza, and Jellal. The members of Team Natsu immediately start grilling Elefseria. As a result, he cites the 100 Years Quest secrecy rule and refuses to answer questions.
However, when Natsu threatens to go on his own, Elefseria decides to speak. He reveals that the Duke they are dealing with is an imposter as the real Duke is dead. Duke had been his apprentice 150 years ago. At some point, Duke left wizardry to become an alchemist. Elefseria paid him a visit after wizards could not deal with the six dragon gods. As such, Duke used Alchemy to create a “human” android named Athena.
Thoughts/Review:
The deus ex machina moment in Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 136 is what I actually expected would save Erza’s party last chapter. The inference I get is that maybe it was Elefseria who teleported Erza’s party and not Minerva like I thought.
Regardless, I’m glad to see the rubbish “100 Year Quest Secrecy Rule” apparently get abolished in this chapter. Granted, Mashima-sensei established it in the original Fairy Tail manga as a way of avoiding explaining the quest Gildarts failed to complete. However, there’s really no point to the secrecy.
As a result, we start getting an exposition dump from Elefseria. Learning that Duke is dead shouldn’t surprise me. At this point, all of the members of Gold Owl are in fact transmuted beings, probably from deceased people. Kinda wild, if true.
I wonder if this means that Athena was once human but became an android. However, she was created by the real Duke, so there’s not an ugly connotation there.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 136 continues the, “Let’s move along” and press that big red button to bail our heroes out of trouble. But for some reason, I’m okay with that since we got some interesting exposition.
