Happy New Year 2010! (Year of the Taiga Style)

Another year has come and gone. I thought I’d first look back to see how I did on anime I’d planned to watch in 2009.

  • Minami-ke Okaeri — I completed the series.
  • Slayers EVOLUTION-R — Again, I was able to complete the series. Still waiting for it to come out on DVD (though Slayers REVOLUTION will be out this year).
  • Keroro Gunsou — Did I even blog this? I see that I did a little bit at the beginning of 2009, but then I was unemployed back then and had more time. Can’t say that I’ve been really wanting to blog this badly since it dropped off in story quality.
  • Space Battleship Yamato 2 — I actually completed this one but I didn’t get started on another Matsumoto-sensei title.
  • Basilisk — I did watch this but never got around to blogging about it. We’ll see if I can get to that (assuming I even remember half the story).
  • Fate stay/night — I went with the episode approach and it was a surprising large draw for a series having been completely released for some time by the time I watched it. Strange, eh.
  • Toradora! — I jumped into it late, but it was good and it got blogged.
  • Urusei Yatsura — I didn’t finish it but I did make progress.

As to this year, there’s not a lot gripping me as the winter season starts. If that remains the case, I plan to do some catching up of backlog and continuing whatever shows press forward through the winter season.

So, on this year’s docket?

  • Urusei Yatsura — Again, I’m going to press forward but we’ll see how many episodes I get done.
  • Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-ohki OVA 2 — This will be a “Back to the Vaults” review.
  • Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-0hki OVA 3 — Ditto
  • Vandread: Second Stage — Ditto
  • Spice and Wolf — The DVD set is coming my way so I’ll try to watch/blog it for sure. I think I’ll just go for the series review rather than the episode one seeing as how much backlog I have.
  • Keroro Gunsou — I do have some more to watch but I won’t be able to catch up, even if the series is good (unless FUNimation continues licensing new seasons).
  • Evangelion: 1.11 You Are (Not) Alone — Yes, I plan to purchase the Blu-ray from FUNimation. I still need to test my laptop to see if I can screen capture Blu-ray images with the viewing software I have.

There are other things I’d like to watch as well but we’ll see how things play out.

In the meantime, as 2010 will be the Year of the Tiger, I thought I’d have some images of Taiga from Toradora! to share (I laugh every time I see Taiga riding the parrot).

I don’t know what version of windows you’re running, but Vista and Windows 7 comes with a screen capture tool. It’s in the accessories folder.

I think, I’ll wait for the box with all three or four movies before I buy Evangelion on blu ray. But I am dying for 2.0 to be released in Japan.

The laptop is on Vista, which I’ll eventually upgrade to Win 7.

specking of Tenchi, did you hear that they are going to release the whole OVA on blue-ray early this year. I wonder if they going to add the english sound tracks and subs?

Also have you heard what Kajishima Masaki is going to do after he finish up Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari? That series production should be wraping up soon. I for one expect a Tenchi OVA 4 to show up, or maybe a DUAL OVA (given what happen in Dual Eps 14), but I heard nothing about any future projects.

    @Toonleap — I didn’t forget her. *lol* I didn’t have any images of her solo but did have a few of Taiga from Toradora! and decided to stick to the latter. ^_^;;;

@Shadow — I knew about the Geneon-controlled TM!R being on Blu-ray in Japan, but I had not heard of the entire OVA series being sold as a single Blu-ray set. That’s because despite the fact that AIC animated the whole thing, Geneon controls the copyright for the first two OVA’s and special (13-episodes) and VAP controls OVA 3 and OVA 3+1.

Where’d you hear that the entire canon OVA’s were being released on Blu-ray in Japan?

As to Kajishima-sensei’s next project, I haven’t heard. I’m guessing one of the things he’ll do is release another GXP novel for sure. Anime-wise, I’ve heard nothing. Everything he’s doing now was laid out several years ago. Everything he’s said about another TM!R creation has always been “maybe” at best.

It appears your right, but in my defense, that website is clear as mud, taliking about OVA 1 and 2 both a groups and as individual discs. So naturally I assume they were talking the third OVA when they mention OVA 3.

  8. AstroNerdBoy says:

Ah. Out of curiosity, what website is this?

  9. Nice round-up!
    あけましておめでとうございます HAPPY NEW YEAR, MATE.
