Shakukan no Shanatan 2Dos Review – Domicile
Shakugan no Shana-tan Dos
Ah, Shana-tan. How in the world did this become such a staple of the Shakugan no Shana series? And yet it certainly has and frankly, I think we’d all miss Shana-tan if those little shorts didn’t appear with all the Shakugan no Shana series. This time, it looks like J.C. Staff is going to release a Shana-tan with every OVA episode release of Shakugan no Shana S. I can live with that.
The first short has Shana-tan eating cup ramen on Yuuji’s head and naturally spilling some of it. Shana-tan eating the curry cup ramen made me realize that this is something I’ve not had. Sadly, Pacific Mercantile Exchange is out of the curry flavored cup ramen at the moment or I might have ordered some (and some melon pan). Regardless, it is a humorous short, especially with Shana-tan remarking on how to get the most out of that cheap meat found in cup noodle and saying (in English) that the result is “juicy and delicious.” *lol*
The next short is a parody from Shakugan no Shana S “Domicile” with Wilhelmina worried about Shana-tan being out. Wilhelmina’s ultra polite but emotionless form of speech combined with Tiamat’s short, terse responses are something I’ve always liked. Their use in the Shana-tan episodes have often been very amusing and this time was no different. Tiamat was funny with her constant “beef set” statements but funnier still with her planting the idea in Wilhelmina’s head that Yuuji and Shana-tan might be having an illicit relationship. *lol* Shana-tan as a rebellious teen was also amusing. I think this was the funniest of the shorts.
The next short with Wilhelmina on some TV show is clearly a parody of a show in Japan, but I just don’t know what. If I did, I’m sure it would have been more amusing. Still, having both Wilhelmina’s and Tiamat’s voices distorted to disguise who they were was amusing.
The next short goes back to parody a scene from Shakugan no Shana S “Domicile” where Wilhelmina and Yuuji stalk Shana-tan, only they are observing Kazumi go off on something that is making insect noises. I’ve never gotten the repeated references to her and beetles of some sort and I’m assuming that’s what she’s going off on here, possibly a dung beetle based on a later eye catch and her remarks about stench.
The next short is another parody scene from Shakugan no Shana S “Domicile” where they visit Margery Daw’s place. While not funny to me, I did smile at the drunk Margery going on about getting married and having kids.
The next short has Yuuji depressed over Shana-tan ignoring him so that he has taken to carrying around a Shana-tan doll, which is well used and causes the real Shana-tan to be disgusted. It was not funny to me, only a bit creepy, especially since J.C. Staff worked in the standard scene of Kazumi stalking “Sakai-kun” while shaking her butt.
Next on the shorts roster, Kazumi and Shana-tan are at the supermarket with Shana-tan throwing a tantrum as a kid might do. I did have to chuckle at that since we’ve all seen kids throwing a temper tantrum in a store.
Next is a short short of Kazumi giving pannenkoek to Ike when she’d rather give it to Yuuji.
Pannenkoek is the topic of the next short as Shana-tan-sensei gives a false lecture on what pannenkoek is. I think this was the second funniest short with the outlandish notion that it is from Holland (which is true), it is a dangerous seafood, it hides in coral, it eats other fish, and sometimes bites divers. *lol*
Finally, we get Kazumi cooking and apparently deciding to score with Yuuji. ^_^; Why she says “dog turd” at the beginning of this, I don’t know but it seems to be a carry over joke from earlier.
Thus ends the 7+ minute episode, which I apparently enjoyed enough to write all of this dribble for. ^_^ There were two pretty funny shorts, a couple of weird shorts, and the rest were good enough to make me smile. ^_^
the best part of this episode? tiamat “yakiniku teshoku” and shana “i will born a chocolate” (the whole temper throwing scene is funny) XD
