魔法先生 ネギま!Volume 34 Chapter 306 (manga)
Mahou Sensei Negima! Manga Chapter 306

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Negi’s use of Magia Erebea to transform into a demon mode is felt by Kotaro, Chachamaru, Yue, Anya, “Poyo,” and Mana due to the sheer force of the dark aura.  Negi launches into Dynamis with a furry, causing the man to wonder if Negi’s technique is an extension of his own master’s technique.  Dynamis launches a counterattack which Negi easily counters as he easily breaks Dynamis’s shadow armor.  Dynamis again attempts to counter but Negi has no problem overcoming this, shattering Dynamis’s mask.  Negi pours on the power, complete with black lighting, and casts a powerful, dark spell (Kokuryuu Raigou) that defeats Dynamis.

As Dynamis lays there smoldering away, he understands that Negi is the product of the blood of the final descendant of Vespertatia, the magical force of his father, his own talent, and the technique from Dynamis’s master.  As such, Dynamis had no chance of defeating Negi. Despite this and his own defeat, Dynamis is sure they’ve won as all Negi has to do is kill him and fall completely into darkness.  Homura leaps to Dynamis’s defense in full flame but Dynamis wants Negi to kill him.  Negi attacks and Homura braces for the killing blow when Shiori drops her Asuna guise and stands between Homura and Negi to take his death blow.

Thoughts/Review:

So, Negi goes “Balrog” this chapter with Akamatsu-sensei ending on an interesting cliff hanger.

Interesting that Negi’s shift to demonic mode was so intense that it may have well been felt throughout the entire Gravekeeper Palace structure.  After all, Mana had descended down to fight Poyo and Kotaro’s group was heading well away from Negi’s current location.  That being the case, I’m going to assume that Fate felt this too.

Negima! Manga Vol 34 Ch 306 ReviewThe Magia Erebea was supposedly a technique created by Eva.  So, why does Dynamis cite it as a technique descended from his master?  I rather doubt that Eva was his master at any point in time but then again, we know so little about her.  Indeed, I asked Akamatsu-sensei if he plans to provide any more back story about Eva during his last Q&A event (English questions have been being selected for publication and answering so there’s always a chance, even if a weak one).

It is always possible that with Eva calling herself a near-final boss in terms of power that she just might have been part of CE.  Her reputation as a shinso vampire and her high bounty may have been the result the war and that after the defeat of CE, she abandoned her adult disguise in favor of her regular, young girl look to get in close with Nagi and Ala Alba.  But that’s just wild speculation on my part.

Why is it that Kurt’s plans and Dynamis’s plans would succeed if only they get Negi to go completely to the dark side?  The closest answer I can come up with is that a Negi that’s out of control can’t stop them, but that in and of itself doesn’t make for a victory.  After all, Dark Negi could still wreck their plans.

Finally, there’s Shiori.  Assuming she survives, some people are in for a surprise that Asuna was never with them.  Frankly, I only see a 50-50 shot of Shiori surviving.  I’ve long wondered if Shiori might have a death flag set that would do something to Negi.  The training Negi underwent may still come into play though, which would mean that Negi stops short again and returns to normal.  There’s also a chance that Fate gates in and blocks the shot for whatever reason.

So, a heavy action episode with some cameos from the other areas to remind us those characters are still there.  ^_^

Still looking for 307 spoilers, but don’t count on them.  I guess the folks at 2CH ticked off the person who was uploading the spoiler images and well that’s that.  Even if my Japanese were better, I don’t think I’d post the so-called text spoilers because it is impossible to tell the lies from the actual spoilers.

A nice cliffhanger until the next chapter. I wonder if Shiori will survive.
Since we previously haven’t had any realy violent deaths in Negima! before (not including the code of the life maker vaporizing ones) I kinda think she won’t. Still, it will be interesting to see if Negi stops inces before the blow would conect.

Realy loving the current action paced chapters, a nice break from the mysterie solving 😉

PS: Astro, any news regarding a re-release for Negima! from Kodansha, in english? Just found and bought volume 1 and 2 and I forgot the adaptations Del rey made (I can just kick myself)
I’ve been out of it for a while so I need to get up to speed regarding developments 😀

There is a image with the Dynamis’s Master, isn’t ?. The dark person with many arms.

It’s pretty obvious that Shiori is going to survive.

Or have you forgotten her pactio, as many others seemingly have?

For the Odds I guees it´s 80-20 in Luna´s favor… If it´s a blow to kill this would affect Homura and Dynamis too…

Desconsidering the bitter flavor in this scenario, this would sink in one strike the theory that Negi have that “NO ONE has to die for the sake of these two worlds”

Well, the thing is that is yet to be seem if the Code of the Life Maker could revive someone that didn’t got deleted… (My english really sucks, so excuse my grammar)

    See Ya
    mr.Poneis

ps.: Serious that Akamatsu sensei is taking questions? Would he answer what would be the birthday date of Evangeline then? Gotta try!

  5. Sian says:

i’m not buying that Shiori have had a death flag honetsly … only persons Akamatsu have ‘killed’ off was those getting Deleted by Code of the Lifemaker, and very quickly afterwards said that it was reverseable

sure, Shiori can (likely) be knocked out of combat so Konoka have to scamble to get her back on the feet, or even just getting her stable till they get to a safe area (ie, finished in MM this time around, but i’m not seeing Akamatsu going killing spree given how he’ve writen previously, and the shock and feedback the ‘deletion’ of Emily and MamaBear created

  6. Nick says:

I do think the next chapter is going to be hard to tell as there is so much going on, i really dont think Eva was a part of CE (im sure Imma would have known or Rakan)then again Dynamis powers with the summoning of shadow spirits or what ever u want to call them is similar to Evas Puppets in a way, I do think Eva might have been at one point involved with Dynamis maybe when he was a child himself? If Negi does happen to kill Shori (doubt it) it will bring about alot of guilt to him and he will prolly not want to use ME anymore as he would have killed someone he considered a friend and Negi wouldnt be the same and considering we havent seen anyone in Negima “die” (like shown killed, not like Gatou)at this point i dont think it will be happening anytime soon.

Nice chapter, I do hope Akamatsu-sensei will provide us with enough light in the life of Eva, if you consider it, she would certainly be blessed if she could live in the imaginary world that Cosmo Entelechia tries to achieve, so the idea wouldn’t be too farfetched.

Regarding spoilers, I usually see the spoiler images/raws in mangahead.com, but the site is infested with troyans so I wouldn’t recomend it if you don’t have a good antivirus/antimalware.

The Magia Erebea was supposedly a technique created by Eva. So, why does Dynamis cite it as a technique descended from his master?

The weapons used back during the Mahora Festival, those were designed for use against Evangeline’s puppets were they not? And then Dynamis referring to himself as just a puppet (like Fate/Tercis does) seems to indicate that he is also a construct.

As far as Shiori goes, I think that “trouble” about strong feelings she refered to back before she was exposed just came into play, she started her run to block Negi as Asuna and ended as herself…did she not want Negi to kill “Asuna” or has the Asuna personality merged with her, sort of like with the real Asuna and her past as the Princess of Twilight?

  9. AstroNerdBoy says:

@Neowulf — Considering that Shiori is an artificial being, she’s ripe for killing even if she can be brought back.

Astro, any news regarding a re-release for Negima! from Kodansha, in english?

    Nothing that I’m aware of.

There is a image with the Dynamis’s Master, isn’t ?. The dark person with many arms.

    I’m drawing a blank at the moment. ^_^;;;

ps.: Serious that Akamatsu sensei is taking questions?

“Was” not “is.” For the last two manga volumes published in Japan, questions were submitted to a special e-mail address with a special subject line. I believe three or four questions in English were accepted and answered along with the Japanese questions. For the upcoming volume 33 (I believe), Akamatsu-sensei had another question acceptance period which has now passed. Now, all that remains is to see what questions were answered.

If you look at CannonRap’s site, you’ll find the Q&A’s translated.

I think they may get the RAW from Share or they might have the French folks copy. However, the spoiler from the Japanese are not showing up.

Heh. Until you mentioned it now, I’d not considered the term “puppet” for Eva and her dolls and the MW folks. I’ve no doubt that Dynamis is an artificial person but I’ve just not considered this line of thought.

    Good question.

    ——————

Those people were affected by the Code of the Lifemaker. According to CE, they weren’t “killed” but were instead sent elsewhere. Debating the truthfulness of the CE’s claim is possible, but the important part is that what the Code did is quite different from punching a hole in Shiori’s chest. That’s why the Code can be reversed.

I’m not nearly as optimistic about more “ordinary” deaths being reversable.

In any event, I’m fairly confident that Shiori will survive for one primary reason. Negi’s transformation is fueled by his negative emotions. The emotions in question aren’t hate and anger, but instead his insecurities and concerns – particularly toward his charges. Accidentally killing one of his charges would make his negative emotions dramatically stronger, which would feed the transformation and make things considerably WORSE.

  12. Anonymous says:

    @Anon 1

The dark person with many arms you’re talking about was Dynamis himself. After he lost his legs he transformed all of his shadow into a bunch of arm tentacles to make one last attack against Negi. 306 didn’t show who Dynamis was specifically talking about when he said “master.”

  13. Anonymous says:

I think Dynamis master maybe the one who turn Eva into vampire. T24

  14. This leaves an interesting question: why would Akamatsu-Sensei do all of this twisted storytelling when Negi’s original objective was to um… find his father? It seems like this is getting too far in terms of the original intention, but then again Negi is the son of a genius tactician, a prince of what would have been Ostia, and a huge bounty should have made it easy to capture Negi. How is it that Negi is the ultimate hax (super powerful creature, to the point of calling him a cheat code) in the story?

  15. ivanov_2020 says:

imho the reason why dynamis said what he said got nothing to do with negi being berserk. imho it got something to do with the nature of magica erebea itself…
right now there’s a huge magical power flow on the area, huge enough to even made the hot gunslinger girl become hotter (i’m talking about mana) and those magical powers are feed by the rest of the magical world..
if asuna made a huge magic eraser there these whole magical power will gone and magical world would deteriorate in an instant…
if the negi who got absorb by his darkside kill, he will even more absorb by his darkside.. if he continue on like that and continually absorb the magical powers around him (which are huge at the moment) he too will speed up the magical world deterioration (even without asuna’s magic eraser)

    @yakitatefreak:
that;s the thing isn’t it.. all he did is looking for his father but as goes on he saves millions lives meet great nemesis and so on and so on, all the things a true magister magi do..

ps: if u seen this post b4, it’s because i did it a few times b4 but end up with a 404 page

  16. Ultimaniac says:

Dynamis does keep referring to himself as a puppet. And does Dynamis functioning under Eva have to mean that she was part of their organization? She’s like 500 years old right? Who’s to say Dynamis isn’t equally as old or even older and worked for her before CE was even formed? He must be older than he looks since he’s been around since CE glory days and still looks young. And it was also mentioned that Eva worked out ME back in the days when she was much weaker than she is now and needed that kind of insane technique to survive. There’s most likely an enormous amount of time between her becoming a vampire and CE’s attack on the world that we don’t know anything about. I’d say it’s not so far-fetched to think that Dynamis was one of the many henchmen that made up her army of darkness.

  17. Treading_Bohemoh says:

I just read this chapter in the convenience store near Sangubashi, Can’t wait till newest chapter is released now…

I was getting sick of this arc, but it’s starting to get interesting again with the plot twists…

  18. Zeether says:

As far as a reprinting of Negima by Kodansha USA goes, I think they may continue from where Del Rey left off and then reprint the other volumes as they see fit. Hopefully cleaned up as far as translation goes.

Shiori probably won’t die. Negi brought Chisame and Nodoka with him for a reason, and that reason is to stop him if he has to use Magica Erebea and it goes awry. I predict if Shiori makes it we’ll see another funny reaction shot of the class when they realize Asuna wasn’t with them.

  19. mr.Poneis says:

Bad that I´m late but Thanks! This site seems full of things to read…

About Eva and de Magia Erebea… I think the that a good bet would be called a coincidence… The Name of Eva as the Dark Evangel and the name of Nagi as the the Thousand master were created a good time after the Life Maker incident.

I think this because Eva didn´t knew about Arika… Eva travelled for various worlds and did a great sort of things, and her encounter with Nagi was only when both were is Mundus Vetus… She could have a past story with the mage that would be known as Life Maker, but I don´t think that she would work in Cosmo Enthelechea… But this is just a bunch of Wild Mass Guessing (and to summarize in a bad english, sorry)

  20. AstroNerdBoy says:

@yakitatefreak — As a 10-year old boy, Negi was seriously underestimated. Even when Graf Herrman tested him, Negi was underestimated because no one knew his massive skills and deep reserves. So, in underestimating him, he was allowed to carry on until it was too late.

@Ultimaniac — That’s why I’m REALLY hoping that more of Eva’s part in the story is explored. She may not have known about Nagi’s relationship with Arika but Arika should have been known to her. And clearly, Eva did something to piss off the MW people to have such a high bounty on her head. I think Nagi’s curse was in part to protect Eva as much as it was to keep her from doing evil.

@Treading — that’s the thing about Akamatsu-sensei; he keeps you coming back for more. ^_^

  21. AstroNerdBoy says:

The Name of Eva as the Dark Evangel and the name of Nagi as the the Thousand master were created a good time after the Life Maker incident.

Nagi was known as the Thousand Master during the war simply because of his sheer power and number of spells he could cast (with a spell book).

As to Eva, her various names have been given to her over time. She was already well known to the folks in the Magic World based on what the senators said when Arika was to be executed by casting her into that valley (no time to look up name at the moment). I remember them saying that even the High Day Walker would have trouble getting out of there alive.

That said, we don’t know when she acquired the name Dark Evangal (or at least, I don’t remember anything being cited to specifically say, “Eva began to be known as ‘Dark Evangal’ at this time.”

I think this because Eva didn´t knew about Arika…

My understanding is that she didn’t know Arika and Nagi were a couple not that she didn’t know Arika or at least know of Arika. Arika was too famous for Eva to never have heard of her. Arika being saved from the execution was information kept secret so if Eva didn’t know that, that would be understandable.

Eva travelled for various worlds and did a great sort of things, and her encounter with Nagi was only when both were is Mundus Vetus…

Where is that established? Eva’s name is well known and feared on both Earth and Magic World. Now, no one on the Magic World should fear her if she had never been there. However, she’s not only feared, but they go so far as to put a massive bounty on her head. Why?

Further, she not only knew the Ala Alba core members, to include Jack, but also appeared to know some of the others as well like Theo.

Still, there are way too many blanks in the Eva story. Hopefully, Akamatsu-sensei will fill those in.

  22. mr.Poneis says:

Well I really missed the point here… In a way really is a great deal for the Magical World on her own

In fact everyone remembers her or know of her in some way… but she is yet to be associated with Cosmo Enthelechea.

What don´t seems to be the case, or she wouldn´t be able to stay safe in Mahora with Konoemon…

Well at last in this scenario where Takamichi invested great part of his time in a hunt of each little member of the organization, and the government would deal a massive attack just to take down a 5 years old Negi, who is the “Son of the Witch”. But Arika seems to be a criminal on her own too (without relation with CE).

Really a near end boss (or that secret bosses that you may or may not take in the game plus)

And I may have miss the point again, cause this explain none about how Magica Erebea is a copyright issue…

  23. Rusty says:

Am I the only one that’s thinking Eva had a good bit to do with the creation of MM?

I expect Shiori will survive this. As other said, being killed and being taken out by the Code appear to be two different things. Negi punching a hole through her would do great harm and that’s a bit darker direction than I see this story going.

As for Dynamis, I’m thinking he’s been around long enough to know Eva well before CE came around. If, as I’m starting to think, she was involved in the creation of MM, then he could have been part of her army of long ago. Possibly even as one of her senior puppets/dolls.

The weapons from the festival were all old – from a war long ago, probably before the CE events of 20 years ago – where Eva was at war with the mages and those weapons were created to fight her army. Perhaps the mages created and retreated to MM to escape her at some point or she was more directly involved, or the war was entirely within MM. I’m not sure why, but that’s the impression I’m getting now. I need to go back and read through it again now. 🙂

One key piece of info we need to understand this is *when* was MM created…

  24. AstroNerdBoy says:

I’m not sure I see Eva being involved in the creation of the Magic World. However, its creation may be something we learn more about though before this arc is out.

  25. Ultimaniac says:

I don’t think Eva had ANYTHING to do with the creation of the magic world. Firstly, I don’t think there’s anyway she’s capable of it, strong as she is. Second, just look at how she reacted after Negi and Rakan’s fight. Rakan told her the world would be in danger and he wouldn’t be any help and she just sorta said “meh, whatever.” Who would say that over “their” world?

  26. Rusty says:

Actually, Eva’s reactions are part of what got me thinking she has something to do with the creation. If she was intimately involved in the creation, then rejected by the others, I could easily see such a reaction. It’s over, long gone history as far as she’s concerned now.

I haven’t fully convinced myself that she was that involved, but I do believe she was around and the time and knows much more than we have seen, particularly in regard to the creation of all the “dolls” that inhabit MM.

Something I do have to ask ANB though… how does this affect your Negi=Nagi theory?

As Dynamis lays there smoldering away, he understands that Negi is the product of the blood of the final descendant of Vespertatia, the magical force of his father, his own talent, and the technique from Dynamis’s master.

    Totally missed this and somehow caught it late. ^_^;;;

    We don’t know Nagi’s parentage. ^_~
