Its just about identical to the reception Nagi got for saving the world.

That second link, Kobayashi-san illustration goodness XD

I had a huge grin this entire chapter. I loved seeing Negi being treated as he deserves by the people.

Continuing where we left off before:

//After all, during the Mahora Festival, Al confirmed that Nagi was indeed alive (thus backing up Negi’s story about having seen his father six years earlier) but that Al didn’t know where Nagi was. As I see it, Al would know if Nagi were the possessed form of the Lifemaker.//

He lied, for him there are two people that absolutely must not know the location of Nagi; Negi and Evangeline, because they are the most likely to free the Lifemaker prematurely and mess things up for the solar system. Until Negi got a whole lot stronger and Eva learned to be considerate of her actions on others, it was just too dangerous for either of them to know.

So Al came up with this trip to the Magical World as a way to gradually strengthen Negi and Co. while keeping both of them away from Nagi. Negi, on a wild goose chase while being minded by the members of Ala Rubra on MM, would learn the history of Ala Rubra, but not where Nagi is, and Eva, whose only sources of information on Nagi are Negi and Al, would be similarly contained. Of course this plan ends up failing spectacularly due to circumstances outside of his control, but it doesn’t really matter because ultimately he got the results he wanted.

//Further, if Nagi is possessed by the Lifemaker, then what saved Negi six years ago? Did Nagi magically break free of the Lifemaker’s control//

Something along those lines, as we can see the world tree isn’t entirely the best prison for the LM as he is at the very least capable of projecting himself elsewhere, we can also see that LM doesn’t quite have complete control over Nagi like he did Zecht, and Nagi can sometimes regain his senses.

The way I see it, the way to ultimately defeat the LM is to trap him in someone he cannot control, and Negi, who is now well versed in internally controlling dark forces has unwittingly made himself the ideal candidate for this operation, of course this means he’ll have to kill his dad, which will probably end up being the major conundrum for the final arc.

//Then, there’s Nagi’s careful staging of things. Before Nagi “dies” and before Negi is born, Nagi has Al record a message for said son. Why? Why would he think that Negi would follow his footsteps, come to Mahora, and get involved?//

No, he probably didn’t know that Negi would end up following his footsteps, however he likely recorded it in case he did. Basically it was Nagi’s way of trying to get Negi to quit following him and thus avoid the inevitable father-son fight.

I’d like to add on to what Mike said here.

Remember the deal that Theo said Ala Rubra came up with? They decided not to speak of matters of the magic world until Negi was old enough. That’s most likely why Al outright lied to Negi about not knowing where Nagi was. He told Negi that he would find clues about Nagi in the magic world. That was probably true. But Al even said himself in one of the latest chapters that he honestly didn’t think the trip would turn into such a momentous affair. If nothing had happened during this trip, they probably would’ve told him everything around his 16th-18th birthday.

There’s a chapter next week as well, Astro. For some reason it’s like you really really want a break week. XD

maybe nagi knew negi would follow in his footsteps because nekane is really Arika.
    that’s my wmg.

On a completely unrelated topic, and maybe this has been brought up before, It seems to me that Asuna is, without a doubt, NOT related to Negi by blood in any close-relative situation. But maybe this has been talked about already and I missed it. ANyway, i’m just re-reading cp. 284 and the guards mention that she’s been around for a hundred years, meaning she is not Arika’s sister, for sure.

  8. Thethhron says:

Erg….I’m finally finishing Negima off to it’s current point again and my instincts are telling me the story will end, with all of Negi’s talk about 10 years for his plan. I’m certain there’s no way Akamatsu-sensei will be illustrating all of THAT, guaranteed. And since Negi is bringing it up now…I mean, everybody is on his side now, for the most part. I just get this terrible feeling that we’re going to get back, hear a bit about the plan and then have a down the road epilogue. Shit, he did the same thing in Love Hina, I just remembered. ugh….

  9. Anonymous says:

Except, Negima isn’t over yet. Why do people keep assuming it is? Ken has stated himself, that there will be another arc after this.

  10. Thethhron says:

EH? really!?!? OH JOYOUS OF DAYS! See, I don’t know where to find such beauteous information. SO I have to draw conclusions from my story instincts which, while highly developed, are not the best. Well, and sometimes I can get info from here. But for the most part I have to go by the story.

That certainly seems to be the case, although a lot of people still appear to be in denial about it (none here, afaik). They both appear to share the same descendent (which admittedly doesn’t mean much after just a few generations… but this is fiction and not the real world, so the effects of multiple generations on mixing ancestry tend to be ignored…), so Asuna is likely a great-great-great aunt of Negi’s, or something to that effect.

I have to say, after looking at the spoiler images… I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop… NOTHING ever goes completely right for Negi. There is ALWAYS a fly in the ointment. This sequence just seems a little too perfect.

Yeah, there are a lot of parallels between Negi and Nagi. ^_~

I had a huge grin this entire chapter. I loved seeing Negi being treated as he deserves by the people.

I’m looking forward to reading a translation. ^_^

He lied, for him there are two people that absolutely must not know the location of Nagi; Negi and Evangeline, because they are the most likely to free the Lifemaker prematurely and mess things up for the solar system.

Except that the possessed Nagi broke the seal, took control of himself, traveled to Wales to save the son he’d never met, then return to his entombment under the World Tree…or something like that. ^_~

I don’t think Al lied at all, but anything is possible. Al might omit stuff, as he did with the LM being sealed under the World Tree, but I’m not sure about lying. He was pretty chatty with Eva from Mahora Festival on when it came to revealing things.

No, he probably didn’t know that Negi would end up following his footsteps, however he likely recorded it in case he did. Basically it was Nagi’s way of trying to get Negi to quit following him and thus avoid the inevitable father-son fight.

I totally disagree with that. Nagi had never met Negi when he recorded the message. As far as I can tell, assuming that was Nagi six years ago, that was their first meeting. Thus, Nagi records a message for the son he’s never met JUST in case said son follows his footsteps?

Negi didn’t get sent to Mahora by accident as I see it. I just reread chapter one and the one thing I get out of that is that this was on purpose. I suspect that both headmasters were involved in this too but that’s pure speculation on my part.

Regardless, I don’t see it as a message to tell the son he’s never met to not follow him. If anything, I think Nagi knew it would nudge Negi in the path Nagi need him to go, and Negi followed that path.

That’s most likely why Al outright lied to Negi about not knowing where Nagi was.

Again, I don’t think Al lied. However, hopefully we’ll get some clarification on that in the upcoming weeks.

Regarding Ala Rubra, Nagi records his message for Negi just prior to his “death.” Negi is born and Ala Rubra then has a meeting to say, “don’t discuss matters of the Magic World with Negi until later.” Except, of course, the stuff everyone did discuss with Negi regarding the Magic World.

As I saw it, Theo was specifically speaking of what became of Arika and Nagi. I would note that Arika seems MIA for some time since it doesn’t appear that she was around when Eva hung out with Ala Rubra.

. But Al even said himself in one of the latest chapters that he honestly didn’t think the trip would turn into such a momentous affair.

Al didn’t think CE would activate their plans right then, which was foolish considering Negi had already clashed with CE in more limited forms earlier, which should have told Al that they were up to something. Otherwise, why have Fate roaming to and fro across the Earth?

maybe nagi knew negi would follow in his footsteps because nekane is really Arika.
    that’s my wmg.

That actually became a subset of my Nagi is Negi theory. After all, such a big deal was made of Nekane and Asuna having similar appearances and according to Negi, very similar scents.

ANyway, i’m just re-reading cp. 284 and the guards mention that she’s been around for a hundred years, meaning she is not Arika’s sister, for sure.

Right. Her exact age is unknown but she’s been around a long time.

It wouldn’t surprise me if there were a jump-forward in time. A.I. Love You did have an epilogue with a small jump-forward ending. In 10-years, Negi’s battle harem will be such that it will be able to defeat large armies. *lol*

    Ermine time? ^_~
