Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing – 05

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing - 05Millia makes a formal request of Tatiana to retake Turan, but is rejected since Turan is to be annexed by Ades and Tatiana already has a deal with the Sky Pirates, via Fam. Meanwhile, Fam and Gisey plot the near impossible task of capturing fifteen Ades warships as Silvius‘s chief engineer, Olaf, tells them that they can use the resources of the ship, but they cannot contact their base at Kartoffel. Olaf takes them on deck where Gisey is able to accurately plot their position in her head after taking a star reading and determines that there are two Federation ships in the area they could take — Ursragna and Aeshma. Olaf is impressed and reports this to Alister on the bridge.

Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing - 05Dio remarks on how incredible those two are, leading Alister to marvel that Dio had joined the Sky Pirates. Dio asks if Alister and Tatiana knew of the Exile fall in Turan, which they did. Dio informs them that the key was Millia’s sister Liliana, whom the Federation has captive. Meanwhile, Fam and Gisey borrow a couple of Ades uniforms from Silvius crew member Elio and make modifications. As they work, Millia wonders why they are helping her since she has nothing to offer. Fam decides that Millia can reinstate the Grand Race if they succeed.

Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing - 05Dio swings by and because of Olaf, reveals that he’s actually a member of the Silvius crew, a fact that annoys Fam. Dio lets them know about the official Turan annexation, which causes Millia to seek solitude on deck. Fam joins her and says that Turan still exists as long as Millia is alive, has people, and has territory. Fam and Gisey prepare for a dawn flight on a cargo Vanship as Millia goes to see them off. Once they leave, Millia decides to start on the road to recapture Turan by donning a maid outfit in order to obtain official territory on the Silvius. To that end, she starts by talking to Tatiana and Alister, but they just think she’s cosplaying and not serious.

Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing - 05As Millia decides to use her maid outfit on the galley crew in order to obtain it as territory, Fam and Gisey scout out their target, the Ursragna.  Posing as Ades messengers, Fam and Gisey go to the bridge with Olaf while Olaf’s crew infiltrates the ship in Ades uniforms. Gisey initially has one set of orders to deliver, but seeing the captain is the one from an earlier mission, Gisey changes her words on the fly to indicate that the captain’s mother demands his return in one day, even providing an escort ship to get him home faster. With that, Olaf’s team easily take the ship without firing a shot and fly the ship out of its dock.

Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing - 05Back on the Silvius, Millia is puzzled by her maid uniform not having the desired effect on the galley cook. When Silvius goes on alert, Millia takes advantage of the situation to barricade herself and Teddy in the galley. After Olaf reports in on their captured warship, Silvius goes back to normal conditions, so Millia makes an announcement over the intercom, declaring the kitchen to be the home of the Turan government in exile. She also demands the shower room and three other rooms. Tatiana, Alister, and Dio discuss it and Millia is granted a table in the mess as Turan’s. The head cook presents Millia, Teddy, Fam, and Gisey with a lobster dinner, where Fam congratulates Millia, promising to help her take the Silvius and then Turan.

In Ades, after the lands of Turan are officially taken and ostensibly given to the people of Gonia, Luscinia goes to a bedroom where an unconscious Liliana lays.

Thoughts/Review:

I can’t help but think that something must have been cut from this episode.  I say this because when Fam, Gisey, and Olaf came on the Ades battleship bridge, Gisey suddenly began addressing the captain of the Prince Victorious.  Fam acted like they were on that ship.  However, prior to this, the targeted ship was seemingly named Ursragna.  So, did I miss something or what?

Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing - 05

As expected, Dio was involved with the crew of the Silvius because he’s a member of the crew. So, that begs the question of why Dio joined the Sky Pirates in the first place.  Allies for the Silvius perhaps?

Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing - 05

Millia continues to mature, deciding to take action and claim a piece of the Silvius for her own. I liked how Titania handled the situation because as an outlaw herself, she respected Millia standing up to recreate Turan.

Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing - 05

Having firmly established Gisey as a genius with the ability to rapidly think on her feet and an eidetic memory, I can believe that Gisey could be able to shift on the fly to do what it took to get the captain of the Ades ship to willingly depart his vessel.  Still, it seems a stretch to think that Fam and company could then fly the ship out without so much as a “by your leave.”

Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing - 05

So, what other plans does Luscinia have for Liliana? She’s already activated the Turan Exile ship, so I don’t know what other value she has.

Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing - 05

In the end, the episode was enjoyable and fun and I look forward to seeing more.

There seem to be alot more going on than just a little empire building here by the Federation. Frist there is the addition exiles to deal with. The addition of characters that seem look like guile member from the original series. And there is the question of Fam’s background.

    BTW, Eps 6 is up.

    I haven’t seen 6 from my usual source. 🙁

Yeah, there’s that. I did look at the first couple of chapters of the official bridge manga and the Guild seems to be a part of that.
