Shakugan no Shana III (Final) – 21

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 21Shana’s attack reaches its mark, but Hecate isn’t killed, but she does report feeling ill. Shana and Alastor, backed up by Wilhelmina and Margery Daw, explain that they are not opposing Serpent-Yuuji creating a new world, but are simply adding a single law to that world — humans are not to be consumed. Yuuji does not respond well to this, and unleashes Sydonay.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 21At the Seireiden tower, Chiara takes Sāle in close so that he can attempt to break through Dantalion’s robot warriors. Dantalion rages over Shana’s and Alastor’s law insertion to the new world’s code, but vows to destroy his one failed creation (Sāle). Using a controlled, created, rock-lion, Sāle starts destroying Seireiden’s defenses, until Mammon gets involved to stop him. Elsewhere, Lerajie and Orobas race to stop Westshore’s weeping slaughter of Tomogara. They fail, but it gives her a chance to speak with them. At the same time, Southvalley reveals to Haborym they, the Gods of Earth, intend to slaughter all Tomogara who’ve consumed humans, period.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 21Ribesal reacts negatively to being told this by East Edge and attacks, but fails as East Edge continues slaughtering Tomogara. East Edge reveals that the Tomogara and Crimson Lords who survive will make it to the new world and remember the slaughter they took for consuming humans. When new Tomogara are created, they too will go to the new world, only they will not know of consuming humanity. Thus, the elder Tomogara will speak of the past when they used to consume humans, and will also speak of the slaughter they took. With that, a taboo will be formed so that the new Tomogara will not want consume humans. Ribesal knows that what East Edge says is true.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 21Kazumi finds herself in Phele’s dreamscape, where Johan holds a sleeping Phele’s nearby while Kazumi stands by the lake. Johan explains that this is a place he and Pheles came to when he was still young, and wonders why she’s dreaming of this place. He reveals his and Pheles’ plan, and thanks Kazumi for setting him free of the Reiji Maigo. Kazumi apologizes for having Pheles do something she didn’t want to do. Johan continues speaking with Kazumi until Pheles awakens, where they then stand before Kazumi. Johan tells Pheles that no matter what happens to him, as long as he’s with her, its OK. She feels the same. Kazumi wakes in the Hyakki Yakou VW bus, which is still trying to flee Tomogara.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 21Meanwhile, Chiara rescues Sāle, causing him to agree to allow her to open a path for him.  It is here that Dantalion has his robot warriors reveal a new weapon, Shining Field, which is able to consume everything within a 30 meter diameter, to which shields nor Unrestricted Spells can overcome. At the same time, the Tomogara forces are driving the Hyakki Yakou VW bus towards the Seireiden tower. The bus comes under the control of the Unrestricted Spell, Daemon, and increases speed to Seireiden. Nbh’w and the Hyakki Yakou believe Kazumi won’t be harmed, but they ask her to protect Pheles and Johan, both of whom are apparently contained in the object in her jacket. The Tomogara attack the bus and apparently destroy it, to the surprise of Yuuji, Shana, and others.

Thoughts/Review:

You know, I really enjoy how this episode had the heroes do something completely unexpected. Normally, the plot would have the Flame Haze doing whatever it took to stop Yuuji’s plan.  Instead, Shana and Alastor decide to allow the creation of Yuuji’s world, only with the “you can’t eat humans” rule inserted.  I like it.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 21

I love how the remaining three Gods of Earth are bringing the pain to the Tomogara. Again, normally, your heroes will tie their hands behind their back rather than completely and utterly defeat the enemy.  As we saw with World War II (as an example), when the Allies completely and utterly defeated the Axis powers, they ceased being a military threat to us.  Indeed, they became military allies of ours.  So, I like the idea of the Gods of Earth unleashed on the Tomogara to bring a permanent end to the Tomogara consuming humans.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 21

I’m not sure I understand what’s going on here, but apparently Dantalion created Sāle.  OK, I don’t understand how that happened at all. Sāle is clearly a Flame Haze, and I thought they were always human, so I’m lost as to how Dantalion comes into the mix.  Hopefully, that gets explained.  I somehow can’t imagine Dantalion spawning a human offspring, unless he did some experiment to do so.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 21

Also on the confusion front is where Pheles and Johan are. I’m going to guess that whatever Hougu that Rofocale saw is where they are, and that Kazumi had her consciousness briefly there.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 21

So the battle continues. We’ll see what happens next.

  1. Son Gohan says:

I read on the Animesuki forums that Sale is the result of a “forced contract experiment” by Dantalion. Basically the insane professor took some random Tomogara from Guze and some random humans and used an unrestricted spell to force the Flame Haze contract between them.
