Ah! My Goddess Ch. 284 Manga Review

Ah! My Goddess Manga/Oh My Goddess! Manga
ああっ女神さまっ Chapter 284

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Urd is not amused at the talk about her mother dying and so punches her to try to get some answers. Urd’s second punch is intercepted by Hagall, who is sent flying across the room. Hagall asks why Urd doesn’t become Daimakaicho. Urd isn’t interested and is very upset with this continued talk about Hild dying, demanding her mother not give up and as ruler, defy the rules. Belldandy stops Urd’s rage as Hild is pleased to see Urd’s love for her.

To everyone’s surprise, Hild reveals she’s not going to die. That’s because that even though the code says the Daimakaicho’s life ends at the conclusion of their term, the fact that Hagall usurped Hild, allowing Hild to usurp Hagall to regain her position, Hild gets a whole new term. Hagall had not been aware of any of this, but she’s relieved that Hild won’t die. Urd wants to know if Hild planned this all along.  Hild doesn’t confirm or deny it, but she is glad for the help Urd, her sisters, and Keiichi provided.

Urd is ready to leave, but Hild has other ideas, not because she has more plans for them, but because of what Belldandy did. She asks Belldandy if she gave Keiichi a true kiss. Urd and Keiichi are surprised by this, but Belldandy doesn’t answer.

Thoughts/Review:

OK, so as I see it, Hild did all of this. As powerful as she is, it always seemed a bit much that she’d be taken down. However, one goes with what Fujishima-sensei laid down for us.  So, Hild allows Hagall and company to usurp her, arranging for Belldandy and company to gain entrance, and so forth. Well, it wraps up everything although the news of Hild dying wasn’t introduced until late.  Further, if Hild died, how does that affect the Doublet System?

I have to admit that I liked seeing Urd being emotional on this level. Urd is an emotional character, but when it came to her mother, Urd always maintained a certain distance. Here, we see that Urd loves Hild as a mother.  It is a nice touch.

Of course the thing Fujishima-sensei drops on us is the hint that Belldandy’s kiss with Keiichi has greater impact than first let on.  I maintain that she may be legally married to Keiichi by the rules of her people.  If so, marrying a human like Keiichi is likely against the rules, which would probably upset the balance between the Mazoku and the people of the heavens.

Well, it is just rampant speculation on my part since I’ve heard buzz (but no specifics) about what’s coming down the pipe.

Anyway, an interesting chapter, but I’m more interested in seeing what Hild is actually referring to when she mention’s Belldandy’s kiss with Keiichi. Can’t wait for that. ^_^

    Nice review Astro!
I like the fact that, after all those filler arcs, finally the plot is developing.
The last chapter I’ve read is 287, and it was rather interesting. But I’ve got a feeling the manga will be over soon. I hope I’m wrong, though.

I’ve had that feeling for QUITE some time, going back to the short stories where Fujishima-sensei started bringing characters we hadn’t seen in years out of the closet. It felt like a farewell tour with this arc being a last, final, massive “go out with a bang” story.

285, 286 and 287 (and beyond by the looks of it) pleases the long term fans very VERY much.

No, they are not married in the “Eyes of Heaven” nor is their being together forbidden. But now that their contract has expired they have no “right” to continue to be together, either! They must……ah, but that would be spoiling it!
