Nurse Witch Komugi-chan R 03 Review
ナースウィッチ小麦ちゃんＲ episode 03

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

The very popular Tsukasa returns to school after a long absence due to her filming schedule. At lunch, Komugi’s friends discuss Tsukasa and Kokona. During the filming of the latest episode of Prickly Goosebumps, where Tsukasa plays the lead detective, she gets jealous of how easily Komugi talks with her costar Yuuta. She returns to the dorm where she and Kokona have a bath. When Tsukasa enters her room, she drops her boyish act and becomes quite girly, her room filled with dolls and plushies. After spending some happy time with these things, Tsukasa dons a frilly dress and goes outside, declaring this to be her true form. She wishes that this is how she could always appear.

Neko-P arrives to recruit Tsukasa as a Tombo-E Girl. Tsukasa accepts and becomes Magical Nurse and begins to collect Fan-C cards. Meanwhile, Magical Nurse Komugi and Magical Maid Kokona suddenly find themselves coming up short on monster hunts. Usa-P and Tanu-P identify Neko-P as the culprit. Sometime later, after filming another episode of Prickly Goosebumps, Yuuta notes to Tsukasa how she seems happier of late. All three girls get the summons for the latest monster attack. The Nishiki Koi easily thwarts Magical Maid and Magical Nurse, but when Tsukasa arrives as Magical Sister, she’s able to defeat the monster and capture the Fan-C card. After introductions (not giving away their true identity), Tsukasa leaves. She’s on a rooftop admiring the sunset when Yuuta arrives. He doesn’t recognize her in her magic girl attire, so she gets a thrill when he expresses interest in her.

Thoughts/Review:

It is kind of amusing how Nurse Witch Komugi-chan R is following the Sailor Moon method of magic girl introduction — have the current magic girls unable to defeat the latest monster of the week so the new magic girl can do it.

I was never sure about Tsukasa until this episode. She is always playing butch roles and in school, she maintains that butch persona. As such, she could be a bishounen type guy, I suppose. However, this episode showed she’s 100% girl and is not a fan of her butch persona she puts up for public consumption. The weird life of an actress, and I presume idol of some sort since the episode had a Tsukasa CG concert moment.

We’ll see how future episodes handle this, but for this episode, I was amused at how Magical Maid Kokona wasn’t her sadistic self and opposing Komugi. It is possible that these actions from episode 2 were simply a nod to the original OVA series.

Now that all three girls are recruited, it is hard for me to even guess at where this series might go. Yeah, there are Fan-C cards to collect, but are the girls going to be rivals are teammates. I’m guessing the later.

Otherwise, not much else to discuss about Nurse Witch Komugi-chan R 03. Tsukasa is cute as a magic girl, and there were moments of humor, but nothing to write home about.
