ユーキューホルダー! Manga Review
UQ Holder Chapter 112
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Yukihime takes Touta to the old Mahora school building and to the old 3A classroom that Negi Springfield used to teach in. There, Mana, the elderly Ayaka, Chachamaru, and the ghost Sayo are waiting. After Chachamaru, Ayaka, and Sayo introduce themselves to Touta. After talking about Negi to Touta and gushing over him, Yukihime and Mana bring the matter of why they are actually meeting.
Mana reports that Negi was spotted last night outside on the East Asia Orbit Station. Mana shows an image of Negi and reports that seconds later, Negi disappeared into space. Touta notices that his grandfather appears to be in pain. Yukihime starts to explain, but is interrupted by the mazoku Zazie Rainyday.
After she introduces herself to Touta, she explains that the Mage of the Beginning has a unique skill called resonance, which is what is tormenting Negi. MotB is not immortal, but indestructible, thanks to a revenge mental possession. As such, MotB forcibly takes over the mind of anyone who kills the body of her current possession. As such, Touta’s great grandfather Nagi killed one of her victims and was possessed. Negi defeated Nagi and was taken over. Initially, she doesn’t completely take them over, but her victim immediately awakens to her unique skill. That is resonance.
Touta asks if Negi’s being held captive as the price for saving the world meant that his brains were taken over. Yukihime confirms this. Touta recalls Dana mentioning that his White of Mars power can defeat Yukihime’s enemy, which Touta now understands to mean that he’s the only one who can save his grandfather. He tells Yukihime that he’ll get back the man she loves.
He has further questions, but he’s interrupted when Isana and Honoka teleport in. Honoka apologizes to Zazie as Isana sweeps Touta’s legs, giving Honoka an opening to blast him outside the classroom with a spell. The surprised Touta lands well outside the school building. The girls leap after him, but he dodges their next attack. Isana gets ready to draw her sword as Honoka prepares ofuda spell slips and tells “oniisama” that his luck has run out.
Thoughts/Review:
Well, there’s a lot of interesting things here.
For starters, I’m glad to finally see the class reunion, even if Ayaka did NOT say “Mistress.” (I checked the Japanese raw, and she says “Evangeline-san.” Since I don’t think the Twins would make this mistake, this has to be on Crunchyroll’s part where they simply reused Chachamaru’s line of Master, which the Twins have always renamed as “Mistress.”)
Sayo seems to be as clueless as ever and as timid. It is cute, but at the same time, I would have liked to have seen her wiser since she’s been around for over 100 years — and braver.
I appreciated how Eva and Mana arranged this meeting in order to keep the survivors abreast of the latest things happening with Negi. Since Touta is involved, it makes sense to let him know about things, even if we do get the convenient cutoff in the flow of information being disseminated.
I found it interesting that Eva and the others appear not to have been in contact with Zazie for a while. Everyone seemed pleasantly surprised to see her. I would like for this to mean that we’ll see more of Zazie, but I’m not holding my breath.
Zazie’s explanation of MotB’s powers were interesting. However, I note there’s some caginess to the explanation. And there are questions that are now raised.
- The translation makes specific points of calling MotB’s possession a mental one, and that this is in the brain of the victim. That suggests that the possession isn’t like Sayo’s body possession. Is this possession the same as Sayo’s, only more powerful? If not, is the possession more like a remote control of sorts?
- If MotB immediately possesses the mind of the person that kills her current victim, and MotB was supposed to be the one who made Eva into a pseudo shinso vampire, and Eva supposedly killed the one who made her thus, then why wasn’t Eva possessed?
- If MotB immediately possesses the mind of the the person that kills her current victim, then we now have an explanation as to why Nagi wasn’t possessed initially. It also means that Jack’s story is a lie. (Is this retconning the original story of Nagi defeating MotB? If not, why didn’t MotB just kill Nagi immediately?)
- Originally, the female body of MotB shown in Negima (while observing Nagi and Ala Rubra) before the fight she had with Nagi and Zecht was assumed by fans to be just someone else MotB possessed. Thanks to UQ Holder, we know this is her true form. So why is she showing her true form at times, and a possessed person at other times?
- Supposedly, MotB showed up at the end of the Magic World arc in Negima, then was revealed to be Nagi. If Asuna and Negi “killed” Nagi then, why weren’t they possessed instead of the body of Nagi being dissolved?
- Why is the text here being cagey regarding Negi defeating Nagi? It doesn’t specify that Negi kills Nagi. If that’s true, then how’s Negi possessed?
- If Negi killed his father, then why was Nagi and Negi there when MotB made her appearance to Touta and company?
- How does MotB allow possessed people to travel in space without the aid of anything?
- Who is MotB? Is she Amateru?
I liked the moment where Touta realized that he’s the only one to save Negi. Finally, we have Touta on a legitimate quest, not some silly “get to the top of the tower” dream. (And darn it, I’m gonna ship Negi x Eva!)
Finally, there’s Isana and Honoka, who ever so conveniently interrupt the MotB discussion to shift our attention to other things. (After all, we can’t be given all the facts, lest some need changing.) I strongly suspect their attack is just to test Touta. Since they know Zazie, and Eva seemed to know them (as she should), I don’t see them as enemies. I do predict (for what its worth) that they’ll be in the Touta harem eventually.
Why they should choose to address Touta as “oniisama” is more of a mystery, but then Touta may have Konoe DNA in him if he’s homunculus. That still doesn’t explain things, so we’ll see what happens.
So in the end, this was a very interesting chapter, filled with a bit of nostalgia, some info that raises more questions than it answered, and two clone-looking girls out for a good time. 😉
Gotta read harder Astro. Zazie outright states that Nagi axed “the former victim” and got possessed himself. Given Eva believed she throughly killed the Lifemaker some point after she was turned, the likelihood of the women being the original body is rather low, or is a avatar of sorts that the Lifemaker just sorta uses. Who knows, maybe they just liked the aesthetic.
Going beyond that though, context clues and other information we have at our disposal leads to most of your questions being easily answered. Its pretty obvious that the Lifemaker can likely choose his/her victims, given how she gunned for Zecht instead of Nagi, and spared Eva of being possessed. The latter is probably pragmatic, since the Lifemaker doesn’t have to worry about a vengeful loli chasing after them for all time.
As to how Negi and Asuna defeated the Lifemaker for good, Asuna is really the only critical factor. But hahaha, jokes on us, we still know jack about what Asuna’s deal actually is outside of MC, so we’re unlikely to know what went on there. Given that this is shaping up to be the Sealed!Asuna timeline, I have a feeling that Negi is dead by the time everything is said and done, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Touta ends up dying too.
All in all, this chapter is good, and by that, I mean its not offensive. It gives us a better indication that this world is not the one of Negima’s epilogue, some crumbs of information on the Lifemaker, and characters I don’t hate. Only criticism I can think of is Touta’s dribble about defeating the Lifemaker at the end, but he’s just a giant storm of cliches at this point, so who really cares.
Yeah, but the explanation is that MotB just immediately possesses the person who kills the previously possessed person. So there are inconsistencies. We don’t have all the answers.
Well, we knew that was going to happen. 😉 But Touta doesn’t irritate me like he used to.
Maybe Touta contains/combines DNA from all of Negi’s students/harem members together with Negi’s own! He is the fullfillment of all their desires to have a kid with Negi! ^_^
Yes, it is very late for me..
Fun chapter though, enjoyed the reunion, glad I caught it before going to bed. Good night, y’all!
Heh! You know, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if this were true.
Wow, the spoilers post and this one made me sure of one thing: I don’t remember well the story of Negima haha.
First, It’s probable that Eva killed the wrong person, as I can see now that the “resonance” looks similar to a possession, but in fact is just a remote control at the same time (she killed a puppet).
Maybe it differs by the level of power AND resistance of the “target”, so If a super powerful foe like Nagi (and/or Negi) is subject of the “resonance” (by killing/defeating the previous host), the MotB then needs to invade the brain of the target and control the body directly.
Something like that then can be omitted if the target is relatively weak: That can explain why the MotB can manifest herself as a “projection” outside the host sometimes (when is not using the bodies directly) and the remote control function on “weak targets”.
It is similar as a radio antenna: You need to be close and use more power to reach a target with heavy interference. And you can’t go long distances if the antenna (brain?) is closed by large walls and more interference.
The curse can be triggered automaticaly after a defeat/death, but can be directed otherwise (as the remote control Eva uses with her puppets).
And going with the same idea, a powerful target can resist the “resonance”, taking years to develop an usable control. And that resistance can be bidirectional, so maybe Nagi prevented the MotB to completely leave his body, at the same time that she thus not “infected” completely Negi. That can be some sort of Mexican standoff, and Touta the solution.
—————————-
My memory is not clear, but didn’t Touta lose his memories prior UQHolder? Then the Konoe Twins can be part of that hidden memories, thus the Oniisama thing unfolds (they lived together or something like that).
Negi X Eva FTW!!!
That’d be reasonable, if the Lifemaker didn’t gank Zecht away instantaneously with no sign of any type of struggle from him. Given that Nagi unambiguously dealt the final blow to it during their first encounter, Eva not being dumb enough to think the object of her revenge would be a straight up decoy (Al, who knows way more then he lets on, cooberates with Eva’s story about killing them) and totally not getting possessed, I’m betting either Zazie is talking out of her ass, or Akamatsu is. Both are incredibly likely given what UQ Holder is.
Even then though, I’m more willing to take what we actively see happening over characters attempting to explain the workings of a god like being few people know jack about. In intelligent stories, you always take exposition from characters who might not have the full picture with a grain of salt, especially when its partially contradictory to what we actively see happening.
I Agreements with this interpretation, and I also think that is what happens. Zazie (or anyone else for that matter, except perhaps the Gravekeeper) knows exactly how the Maker of reincarnation technique. Or she knows, but because many pounds Relationship is complicated to explain in simple words and because there are lots of factors to consider when choosing a new host, Zazie prefers to simplify the extreme, giving the image of a possession by a vengeful ghost takes possession of his murderer, then that is much more complex and we have some examples that do not fit with the theory parfaitements (Eva who was not possessed when she killed him and Zekt which was possessed then he did not kill him. And yet technically Zekt was part of the team that fought him. So it is actually one of his “murderous”).
But as a whole, in fact, was more or less the body of his conqueror that chose the life-maker as the next reincarnation (évidante for a reason, if he/she is stronger than its current host, he/she necessarily will do a better avatar ), Zazie decided to stay in this very basic explanation for now. The key is that Tota (and readers) have understood the basics ideas. Eventually it is likely that the precise understanding of his technique of reincarnation will be refined. ^^
Yeah, you are right. More so in the Eva being dumb part. That was my mistake. My bad. That would only corrupt the image that I (and many others I believe) have of her, so no haha.
Man, I need to reread Negima again. My memory of it is in shambles. That rushed ending enraged me.
I concur with the rushed ending. because, with how that was, it meant that the MotB was in hibernation after getting her butt kicked again that time, before releasing herself in nagi again, which would lead to the confrontation 10 or so years before UQholder then getting a hold of Negi in the process.
Still escapes me how she still has Nagi under her grip……
Yeah, it doesn’t fit with what Zazie said. However, I do note that Zazie didn’t specifically say that Negi killed Nagi, simply that Negi defeated Nagi. There are a lot of implications (for whatever they are worth) that Negi may have voluntarily allowed himself to be possessed by MotB. That would mean she has control over Nagi and Negi.
That’s how I’m seeing it as it would explain why MotB still has her original body. However, the “she’s not an immortal” goes against this, unless MotB does something to stay alive.
He only has 2 years of memories (plus the time he’s spent with UQH).
Possible.
What is going on with his sisters. Are They all cracy.
More like naughty brats, maybe. 😉
It’s possession of the mind, in comparison to possession of the body. Duh. :p
More seriously, it seems to be a difference mechanism: Sayo’s used the victims body as the basis, while this is altering their mind and personality.
Eva didn’t actually manage to kill them, obviously.
Or someone else struck the final blow?
That depends: it may be dependent on whoever struck the final blow, aka actually killed them. If the Lifemaker was still barely breathing, Zecht may have finished killing them to protect Nagi.
I would like to direct your attention to Evangeline, who currently goes around in an aged-up version of her true form.
Now, I will then direct your attention to Orochimaru of Naruto, who also possessed bodies, and used a technique to appear as his old self.
Um, they didn’t kill him? I thought that was obvious, with his “come and kill me” line. And the fact that Negi only accomplished it 20 years ago, instead of 80.
Or it didn’t feel the need to say it, since people get the picture.
…Or Negi found a way to trigger the transfer, but still preserver his fathers life.
See above: he might have created some sort of “false death” or resuscitative technique. Which if correct, seems to have backfired. ^-^;
I suspect the “Resonance” ability is some sort of Astral Projection technique, myself. Which explains how Nagi showed up to save Negi in Negima.
I’m fairly sure it was stated somewhere that Amateru is the MotB’s daughter.
Regarding Eva and her appearance, she is changing her age appearance. She’s not mentally possessing someone and then changing her appearance. And as we saw, she seems to be separate from Negi and Nagi when she teleported Eva and company to her location.
What what did they destroy if not a body of MotB?
Sorry, very late reply(been busy), but I’m fairly sure that was essentially an illusion, though with the Lifemakers power, the line between illusion and reality is likely non-existent.
Same with the body they destroyed on mars: it was essentially a majorly advanced form of astral projection.
Possibly, but then MotB should always be using this form of illusion/projection to protect herself.
Touta x Eva vs Negi x Eva ship
Other ships has sunk. Lets roll!!
Well, I think there will be a Touta x Isana-Honoka ship too. 😉
My memory isn’t so good on the ending of Negima too. I remember Nagi disappearing telling Negi to kill him in Negima chapter 335?. Then the confusion is the very last chapter Nagi appears free and talking to Jack with Eva at the end of the U shaped table. Also Negi and Nagi kidding with each other and all the girls in his class – then the epilogue of what happened to the girls and the hint to UQ for the love interest in Eva.
So is there some chapter showing Negi killing Nagi or is that assumed, where the MotB takes over Negi, but as the question goes – if so why does Nagi and Negi appear together in the earlier UQ chapter if one has to kill Nagi for the MotB to move to another body.
I still suspect that the MotB doesn’t have complete control, and both Nagi and Negi are fighting to get free, which is maybe why we see the true form of the MotB collecting or pulling back both Nagi and Negi. That brings up another question, can the MotB control both or more at the same time?
Which begs the question, if that was the MotB, what did they “kill” as Nagi’s body was dissolved?
No such chapter exists. This chapter was cagey on whether Negi killed Nagi or not. It just said Negi defeated Nagi, whereas Nagi killed the previous person, and MotB’s mental possession works via the death of the victim. So I can actually see a scenario where Negi volunteered to be possessed, so MotB took him while keeping Nagi.
One of the MotB skills is the creation of illusions. Illusions like a certain Jack Rakan. So the MotB using a illusion body in the magic world, her world, isn’t that unreasonable.
In the little diagram the word used for ‘original’ and Nagi is 殺害 = saggai = murder.
So yes the chapter more or less says that Negi killed Nagi in the incident 20 years ago.
If that’s the case, then how is Nagi present with MotB along with Negi? Unless the diagram is to show how things work normally for MotB, but the cagey exposition by Zazie is to give wiggle room for Akamatsu-sensei to have Nagi still alive.
for Nagi and Negi the word 斃す= to kill / to defeat is used. The sentence structure, in Japanse (S)OP, is the same:
Nagi ‘original’ 斃す
Negi Nagi 斃す
About why Nagi was there too, so far that was just an illusion so I’m giving that scene not much weight.
It makes no sense for him to be there at all, and I’m not sure that was an illusion (unless you know for sure it was).
I’m sorry to be so picky, but 殺害 = satsugai.
I blame Detroit Metal City… their signature song (“Satsugai”, no less) repeats the line “Satsugai, satsugai se yo” many tmes and it got stuck in my head.
Oh, the つ is actually a big one. Thanks for the correction.
aahh. OK, I see what you are saying, thank you Astro! I can see Negi sacrificing himself is something he would do to also save Nagi. But I think he’s wise enough to have started or at least planned an exit strategy and to defeat the MotB , and we are seeing this plan happening now.
We may be seeing his plan, or we may be seeing the plan of Eva and company trying to get Negi back. Negi seems to be telling Fate that things aren’t quite what he imagines when it comes to resonance when the group was pulled to wherever MotB was with Negi and Nagi.
Regarding point 5. That was a projection of the Lifemaker with the real body under the World Tree. They weren’t killing him. Just dispelling the projection.
Ayaka calling Eva “mistress” was really weird. Nice to know it was mistake.
“And darn it, I’m gonna ship Negi x Eva!” Took you long enough :L
I really hope next chapter has elderly Konoka(who I think is the Headmistress of Mahora) turning up and breaking up the fight between the Konoe kids.
Which would suggest MotB can make projections anywhere, and that said projections have her powers.
Heh! I’ve actually been on that boat for a while now. 😛
I’ve thought about this and I believe there has to be a compatibility because defeating/killing the Mage of beginning is two different things.
in the case of Ala Rubra vs The Mage of Beginning, Zecht and Nagi thought her at the end and Nagi delivered the following blow. We don’t know much about Zecht but we can presume he is an immortal and old enemy of the Mage and I guess he allowed himself to be possessed to save Nagi.
After that, Nagi defeated Zecht and was then possessed during the 10 years he was absent in Negi life, being sealed away and finally awakening during the final fight.
Ala Alba vs Mage of Beginning ended with Asuna and Negi double teaming her with Asuna and Negi channeling Magic Erebia and Magic Cancel into the sword of exorcism and slaying it.
But since Magic Cancel should have been the killing blow, Asuna should have been possessed. Likely this came full circle and Nagi was repossessed and 70 years later, Negi Springfield finally defeated it.
In regards to Eva claims for defeating it, this depends as Eva had been in the witches dimension for a long period of time training… There a possibility Eva was possessed but was later defeated and release without remembering what had happen or there is restrictions to the resonance
You may have a good point here, as Negi may have done the same thing to not have to kill his father.
Zazie doesn’t name Zecht, but says that Nagi killed the previous victim and was immediately taken over. 🙁 It makes me wonder why MotB, as Nagi, was asking Negi to kill him.
Another possiblity is that Negi vs Mage of Beginning is actually a different timeline from the Negima ending,
But Zecht is a known victim although it possible he wasn’t fully possessed or it wasn’t well known in the Negima universe that he was possessed as Nagi was more well known for defeating the Mage.
Either way Negi being possess for defeating the Mage the second time is still a mystery…
Yeah, that’s possible.
Look incoherent rectons, that mage can choose her victims vs zazie said.
About this, so look the comment Dargor (and my response), a little above your comment. You will find our two interpretations of it.
It would have been nice to know how Zazie knows what she knows.
Wait, WHAT? !! Dargor like a chapter from UQ Holder ?? Pray that the end of the world does not come soon !! lol
Well, more seriously, Dargor said generally, that I think myself about the power of the life-maker. I think he possesses not necessarily the one who killed him, was just that is what he does most often.
And Not, the story has not been retconed, it was just that the purpose of Zazie was explained comprehensively and quickly, the power of the life-maker. So obviously, she was simplified to the maximum.
Talking about Zekt would not have made sense here, maybe we’ll talk to him later, maybe not, in any case does not matter for the explanation here, is everything.
Regarding the use of the female avatar in Chapter 65, I think, as Dargor, it is not the true form of the life-maker. Here’s the theory I propose. The life-maker has actually attracted the group in a phantasmagoria to the image of Mars, as many thought, and in this phantasmagoria are kept the “souls” of all life-maker previous avatars. A bit like “the dimension of orochimaru” (I say no more, Naruto readers will understand) and the life-maker has manifested in the form of one of his former hosts by drawing on the memories of the groupe about him (like in scroll of Eva). But Tota does not know him, Eva has obviously never seen the face of his avatar at the time of her “vampirisation” if we are to believe the flashback at Dana. The only one left was Fate. And we know he has the memories of … PRENIUM! Prenium which saw the female incarnation of the life-maker 90 years ago. ^^
Some will say to me. “Why not have assumed the appearance of Filius Zekt? After all, Fate worked under his direction while he was the reincarnation of life-maker in the 1990s” and it’s true.
But as I said, Filius is undoubtedly a mere host of life-maker, this would have too much clues to readers on the nature of the place where the group was, or would have created confusion (Astro has himsel, always believed that the life-maker has never controlled Zekt but he was his camrade with his own free will. So the choice of Akamatsu about don’t use Zekt in this situation makes sense lol), as if he had appeared in the form of a disembodied spirit. The readers had understood too quickly (and yet even with these precautions, many had already realized that it was an illusion (I did not go in, I thought we were really on Mars lol) more reason for not to give even more obvious clues about the spiritual nature of the place. So he chose an avatar even more mysterious than Zekt and with absolutely no background. Namely this mysterious woman, at least is what I understand the thing.
Regarding the sex of life-maker, I guess you have to gloat, Astro-san, but do not rejoice too soon my friend ^^:
1. Firstly I ask to have an analysis of the sentence of Zazie in RAW version by someone who knows Japanese, whether the pronoun used is actually female or if it is still a neutral pronoun. I don’t doubt about the proffessionalism of the twins, but because we all believed, until this chapter, that this androgynous person was the true body of MOTB, the fact that the twins have chosen to give a feminine pronoun to designate him is understandable.
2. Since the theory about life-maker literaly to possess his victims is now confirmed, somehow we can consider it as asexual. Where specifically, his gender depend on its reincarnation. If it is a man we will say “he,” if it is a woman, we will say “she”. And I must confess that I like enough this idea. I find this reinforce his side “enemy formless” or “cosmic abomination” he had in Negima and UQ Holder would have risked making him lose a little of this aspect in giving him a simple classic physical immortality, like chapter 65 did believe us… ^^
Besides, with these revelations, finally, experiments that he conducted on Eva are thereby totally justified. Certainly he was already immortal through reincarnation, but it was not enough for him, he wanted to perfect the true immortality. And in fact, he has it has now managed, because he has the immortal body of Negi, infused with the perfect magia-Erebea!^^
I Wanted to say : “Astro has HIMSELF always Believed”.^^
Understood. 🙂
She uses
彼女 = kanojo = she
Okay! Thank you for the information! ^^
Afte that,r the question is whether zazie uses this pronoun to simplify understanding of Tota (like her ULTRA simplified explanation of the process of possession of the Maker), because the face that Tota saw was a woman that he/she possessed 90 years ago (if Zazie had started to tell him that the life-maker was a man who possessed a woman, and after a man and a woman again, ect, I think Tota would a little or a LOT lost lol . for the moment, he knows him in a woman’s face, so it is likely that Zazie has decided to make him keep this image for the moment.) or, Zazie knows the original identity of the maker and he/she was really a woman in his/her first life.
It is too early to say which hypothesis is right, hopefully we’ll know more soon^^…
In my mind, there’s no reason for MotB to use this female form unless it is her true form.
You can write a japanese sentence without using gender specific pronouns at all. あの人 is a perfect example oh it.
I was just thinking, CLAMP is notorious when it comes to having characters without a specific gender assigned. My understanding is that for chapter 2, Shinobu had no gender assigned to her, so there was some question on whether she was in fact a girl, or a boy.
Thanks for this information. ^_^
Well, I’m not gloating, but while I know there have been things stating that Amateru is the daughter of MotB, I still like the idea of this MotB being her.
Yeah, theory time!
1- Zazie clearly said the MotB is NOT IMMORTAL, but has a unique skill!. That raises the question: can Touta’s magic cancel work on that?! Most likely yes, considering he (partially) caused the glitch in Kirie’s power;
1.1. Btw Astro, she also said the possession doesn’t take place immediately… I suppose a strong person will resist much more, right?
2- The group hug was funny! Hereditarian charm is awesome! LOL
3- And speaking of charm… well well well! So Mizore-chan is actually Ayaka’s GREATgranddaugher? That leaves a lot of possibilities, huh? But wait a minute… isn’t she just like that when Asuna wakes up, many, many years later? Ô_o
P.S. What sacrilege did you just say?! How could you even wonder those 2 angels could be enemies?! XDDDD
I think that if Negima had continued, it is highly likely that the combination of Asuna and Negi would have dispelled MotB from Nagi, allowing them to ultimately kill her. Since Touta is taking the place of Negi and Asuna, then I can see the same thing happening.
One would assume so, but then it might be that she doesn’t take complete control over them, but over time, that control grows.
Supposedly, but we don’t know what timeline we are in.
Plot twist. 😉
This time i couldnt care less about what Touta is up to BECAUSE!!! i got finally ZAZIE !!! T__T God i missed her. Alone from this its a 5 out of 5 from me lol
So… and now a stupied question from me…. Isana and Honoka… they are so identical to Setsuna and Konoka that this cannot be a coincidence… so clone like Touta or did Setsu and Konoka realy go the FULL field? XD
I’m betting on cloning, created by a fusion of magic and science. It is not possible for two women to produce children in nature without a man being involved. 😉
On the other hand, we dont know what Ken will pull. He is always for a suprise good. Who knows… maybe there is some “special” magic available for those two XD
Yeah, we’ll have to wait and see what develops.
For Zazie’s statement to be true and thus implicate Jack’s exposition as an utter falsehood, it would have to mean one critical fact. That Jack lied about Nagi being stronger then him, which is highly unlikely given what we have seen Jack do when it comes to the lifemaker and his sheer destructive capacity, therefore a person stronger than him could challenge the lifemaker, therefore the question would be given Jack’s slightly egotistical nature.
Why would he lie about Nagi being stronger than him?!
He wouldn’t.
I find it interesting that everything Al has said thus far, is being taken as true canon VS Akamatsu using Zazie as his author mouthpiece.
If Kurobo turns out to be Al, we may get more info from him.
I honestly think that the Twins really just wanted to meet their ‘Onii-sama’, test him, and maybe end up crushing on him, and like others say, join the harem.
At least we have a good idea who in 3-A is alive and dead…. And I honestly think this timeline is not the same as the one Asuna is sleeping in… because for one, the Mars war of Independence has yet to start, ans two, Negi was still missing when asuna woke up, so assuming that Touta does Not win against the MotB, then this timeline would work.
But already it does not follow that line. Unless for reasons.
Now, I said the rest of 3-A is dead, Chao could still appear. XD and maybe bring back mid twenties versions of 3-A with her.
And.. I don’t know about anyone else… Am i one of the few who does not really care about how negima gets dropped in here?
pretty sure if Ken didn’t end negima like he did, we would have got more stuff, and this series might not even have this kind of Plot. I think…
I agree with you totally here. UQH in many ways is the continuation of Negima, only with some new characters taking the roles (in part) of old characters.
I’m not sure the rest of Negi’s class is dead. In the english version I read, Eva introduced Ayaka, Sayo, Mana, and Chachamaru as “everyone here today is a student of your grandfather.” But didn’t say about the others — and then Zazie appears later — so there will probably be others to make their appearance when Akamatsu-sensei wants to reveal them later.
Some may have died, so that might be true for some in the class too.
Since we’ve seen Chachamaru, maybe along those Negima associations of the students, Satomi may appear to give Chachamaru a upgrade, along with Chao, Ku (a older chinese martial arts sensei?) and Satsuki (maybe the aged owner of her own chain of restaurants by this time – with their own clones or descendants). hmmm the grand-kids of Natsumi and Kotaro… and have tails maybe?
I’m just glad to see the others in the class, even for a brief moment. Zazie’s outfit — very appropriate for her, too bad the panel wasn’t in color — she likes the Mahora Festival so yeah, the timing of her appearance does fit with the character too. She should be there performing in costume maybe, but definitely participating in that festival as it is also going on at the same time — maybe her sister is close by too?
Setsuna, as a hanyou, would be a candidate to still be alive, assuming she wasn’t killed.
You know, this chapter gives us an explanation as to how Nagi was able to save Negi when his village was attacked, despite it being during the span where Nagi was possessed by the Lifemaker; now that we know that the Lifemaker’s possession isn’t complete at first, Nagi could have broken free of the LM’s influence for a brief moment.
Actually, this reminds me to the objection I have to the pure body hoping theory (which does not appear to be the case here since MotB has control over Nagi and Negi). MotB was supposedly buried under the World Tree, so it made no sense to me that Nagi, as MotB, could unbury himself, go to Negi just in the nick of time, then return to bury himself to keep MotB sealed. If it were that easy, then MotB should just be able to escape at will.
That being said, if MotB’s female form is what is sealed under the World Tree, and she has a remote control possession of Nagi, then I can buy him breaking free briefly. It is still ultra continent that Nagi arrived just in time to save Negi from death.
The Nagi that saved Negi could have been a magical projection, just like the Nagi that showed up with CE near the end of Negima, and there would be no need for the LM to escape the tree at that time. All that explanation requires is the seal temporarily weakening for some reason, which could easily happen for a number of reasons Akamatsu could give us.
Possibly. But then MotB could do anything she wanted via magic projection and not put the body she possessed at risk. (Although I suppose she’s always looking for the next stronger person to come along.)
Having to read Negima 335 again, it took both Asuna and Negi’s combined power to injure the possessed Nagi/MotB. Obviously the MotB is still around, and was able to snare Negi too – how its not clear.
I’m thinking Tota in one person, was created with the needed magic powers of Negi and Asuna to again be the key to kill the ‘host’ body and also with the needed magic powers or to stop the resonance control of the MotB, where if Tota succeeds, the MotB will attack Tota, but cannot go into Tota because of the way he was created, basically stopping the true MotB from going to another ‘host’, and possibly the MotB dissolving out of existence or finally dying. Maybe Nagi and Negi needs to be sacrificed to kill the MotB, or there is a way to ‘trick’ the MotB to thinking Nagi and also Negi is dead by Tota, causing the move of the MotB to go to their killer, again towards Tota.
There seems to be already too many other clones or others like Tota and the 3-A class to consider it by ‘chance’, and those so far are two generations or ‘great-great’ generation of the original 3-A group, with the exception of the immortals or those that don’t age like Eva, Zazie, Sayo, Chachamaru. I think Mizore has magical powers too, but hasn’t shown it yet.
Others that I thought were done or killed like Tsukuyomi when the original Setsuna defeated her their sword fight, appears to be still very active. I’m thinking Tota’s sister and her magic power may be needed also to help Tota in a to-be-determined way.
Maybe it could be Fate’s doing, where he is still loyal to Negi from his defeat to Negi, and his limited agreement to help Negi, but that is a speculation. Maybe Negi saw this possibly happening and was working with Fate with a way of destroying the MofB and save his father – in case if Negi was eventually controlled by the MotB.
I’m still sticking with the Tota x Eva ship. Tota will become or do something for Eva to earn her affections, like saving her life at some point, or if Nagi and Negi are killed to stop the MotB. I’m still hoping for Nagi and Negi to be safe at the end, but its too early to assume it.
I’m also hoping for Isana Konoe about to strike a helpless Tota, but is stopped by Kuro’s blade, and we get to see the interaction fighting of both using the same technique, for they both are from the same sword school. Also Honoka Konoe blocked or her magic power challenged by Kirie’s wizard powers. Please Akamatsu, we need some good action chapters already!!!
With magic apps, that’s possible. However, she might just be a very gifted martial artist.
As to Tsukuyomi, I wouldn’t mind her showing up just to see Isana. 😉
I’ve been thinking. MOTB sounds like she/he is a spirit, who can posse people while still having powers. Very much like more powerful version of Sayo or better Santa’s powerful girlfriend whom isn’t on this plain of existence anymore. If he is a homunculus, then he not unlike Fate in a sense.
Maybe the all focus of “his parents” trying get Touta away space, the tower, when he was young, was because perhaps he was being raised/created specifically for purpose of occupation by the MOTB in the first place. Just a theory.
I’m not too worried about the Konoe Twins encounter, since their properly there just test Touta’s metal.
I suspect you are correct. MotB seemed to know Touta when she saw him. Once the term homunculus was used in conjunction with Touta, that’s what made me think that his creators were interested not only in getting a Negi clone, but someone superior who could defeat MotB once and for all.
