境界のRINNE ep 32
Kyoukai no RINNE 32
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Shouma is not happy when Rinne’s breakfast is eating beans an old man throws out for the birds. Two of Shouma’s shinigami friends show up, having completed their homestay work and earning 50 points. Shouma is still determined to exorcise an evil spirit for maximum points, so he races off, where he’s met by an understanding Masato. Because of what Masato tells him, Shouma targets a grumpy old woman ghost. Sakura tries to stop Shouma, but it is the elderly ghost who stops Shouma. Rinne comes in to punish Masato, so Masato flees, giving Shouma an envelope in the process. The envelope contains a letter and ¥500 from Masato.
Masato shows up with a supposed evil spirit detector, making Shouma happy with “Masato-oniisan.” In reality, it is a demon item that turns regular spirits evil. Shouma is happy to be exorcising “evil spirits,” which is causing Masato to get his fill of spirits to take to hell. Masato ignores warnings from Rokumon and Sakura, but then Masato reveals his true intentions to take the spirits and Shouma to hell. Masato attacks Sakura, but Rinne shows up to save her. Rinne is not happy with how much he’ll be fined for Shouma’s actions. As Masato flees with his prizes, Shouma regrets his actions. Rinne uses the Hoop of Judgement to stop Masato. After beating Masato up, the devil agrees to not tell anyone about Shouma’s actions. Rinne forces Shouma to listen to the now restored spirits and their request, most of which are to have Shouma apologize, but which will earn the boy enough points to finish his homestay program.
Thoughts/Review:
This episode reminded me of why I didn’t like Shouma — he’s a horrible brat.
The story for the most part is rather boring. Annoying brat won’t listen to anyone, gets seduced to do evil things, comes to realize his mistake when his life is in danger, does a noble deed, then gets saved. It is pretty much by the numbers.
Fortunately, this appears to end the annoying brat arc. I don’t think I could have taken another story with him in it. I hope there are no more such stories in the future, but somehow, I’m betting we’ll see one again sometime.
As an aside, the Hoop of Judgement makes a shocking return. I had forgotten about it.
About the only thing I liked in this episode was Rinne’s method of getting breakfast in the morning by eating beans meant for the birds. It is wrong, but I can’t help but chuckle.
In the end, because of the nature of the story and the character of Shouma, this is the worst of the episodes this season.
