The race does conclude this chapter and the ending of the race…well, I’ll let a gracious translator provide the details since I’m not sure. Looks like some strong enemy is coming. Cutlass maybe?

I used that weird translate thing but did not post it for it looked more broken than it already was.

Heh!heh!heh! I was actually expecting him to put this plot development in going into Golden Week so that we’d have two weeks to wait.
More like we should have expected him to purposely continue with the (nice) fanservice until the last moment?
I still think Cutlass is gong to become a ally, through force or ‘fists’ i guess?
Or maybe even better, she allows herself to get caught, get taken to the hideout, and she destroys UQHolder! HQ, takes Evangeline, and Touta and co are forced to ally with Fate and Neo Ala-Alba.

I don’t think the others had quite crossed yet. But I may have been mistaken about that.
Well It seems that I and the Japanese fans have reached utter apathy for the series, I really didn’t think it would happen within 3 years.
I think UQ inherited a lot of Negima’s fanbase and a fair amount of them are here for that exact purpose. Ken loves to tease tidbits every so often to keep us interested. But fluff like this does nothing for me and it sounds like most people. A one-off chapter of this race would’ve been perfectly fine but eating up most of a volume with it is dull, especially when there’s no real implications or consequences of it. At least Yue’s race served a purpose back in Negima. This one is just loli ecchi stuff that most of us could do without.
Negima as a whole benefitted greatly from the hybrid of the shonen/harem genres. UQ doesn’t seem to, especially as characters are continuously pushed to the background (First Santa, then Karin/Kuromaru, and the other, unintroduced members of UQ Holder) and Touta shows interest in no one other than Eva (and Karin to a much lesser extent), thus making the harem seem rather pointless. This is in contrast to Negima where there were at least a few girls in serious contention for his feelings.
I still read this series because overall Ken is a good writer and I feel like a lot of leftover threads from Negima will be resolved or expanded upon, and the cast is mostly enjoyable (though I don’t care for the current Kirie/Shinobu/Mizore focus), but there is a lot of potential being wasted here. I actually think (shipping goggles here) that Kirie and Santa make a much better pair than Kirie/Touta, but this only gets minor focus as Santa has become all but irrelevant since his inclusion into UQ. The other UQ members (I can’t even remember their names) have had little to no focus despite being intriguing characters with interesting abilities… Though that could change at any time.
There is a sizeable amount of irony that Ken’s superiors necessitated Negima’s genre shift into something he wanted to do… And now he’s doing the reverse with UQ with considerably worse results. The series started off very strong and there was little to no reason to resort to harem hijinks, unless Ken thinks that will win back his audience (which it isn’t). This, coupled with minimal marketing and no sign of an animated series in sight (which often greatly boosts popularity of relatively unknown series), is dooming this series.
Of course, Ken being who he is, is very likely throwing his audience for a loop. Because damn if that man isn’t a massive troll.
I’m not disagreeing with you, but I suspect that purpose of this mini-arc is to have Touta decide on the harem route. Just my opinion.
As to UQ Holder, I was fine with it until all of the sudden, the UQH folks showed up to whisk Touta, Eva, and Kuroumaru to UQH HQ. I was looking forward to a continued road trip where Touta learned more about immortality through Eva and Kuroumaru, but alas, that didn’t happen. Plus, Touta kept being Super Touta with no efforts, combined with his “I’m going to do whatever and up yours ’cause I’m the MC” attitude was irritating.
It really is a shame because I had believed Akamatsu-sensei would explore immortality through Touta, but instead, we got cliched, OP MC, which is boring. I think that’s why in desperation, Akamatsu-sensei has gone back to the harem and ecchi stuff to try to garner cheap boosts in ratings.
