Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 43Kaname gets mad when Nasa doesn’t understand why he should take Tsukasa out on a date. As such, a date is a way for Nasa and Tsukasa to get to know each other better. Once convinced, Nasa decides to use the excuse to buy Tsukasa a phone, followed by asking her to come with him to the aquarium. Tsukasa scores a major blow on Nasa by immediately recognizing he’s asking her out on a date. However, she’s happy to go with him.

They head into the city, where Nasa praises Tsukasa’s clothing. She recognizes Kaname told Nasa to say this. Nevertheless, she’s happy for the compliment, but requests Nasa just say these things on his own from now on.

As they enter the aquarium, Nasa thinks of how often dates are filled with mishaps, based on the romantic comedy genre. However, none of the stereotypical scenarios that would cause a problem on a date happen.

At one exhibit, Nasa and Tsukasa see the bellies and feet of pelicans swimming above. Tsukasa wants to see the bird’s front part, which amuses Nasa, since she could have said “head” or “beak.” This embarrasses Tsukasa. The two go to a fast food restaurant, where they both ordered a fish sandwich.

And now, we finally have the date event depicted in Tonikaku Cawaii chapter 43. And thankfully, Kaname got things going.

The Date: Getting Started

Maybe it is a Japanese thing, but I don’t understand why a married guy would need an excuse to ask his wife out on a date. I can understand falling into the trap of just enjoying hanging out at home with one’s spouse (or girlfriend/boyfriend for that matter). When you really care for someone, just being together in the same room can be enough, even if you are both doing different things.

That said, I don’t get where Hata-sensei is getting the notion that it is embarrassing to ask the woman you love and married to go out on a date. Sensei did this via Kaname, who suggested Nasa come up with the cell phone purchase excuse. Then Hata-sensei doubled down on this embarrassment notion via the narrator.

Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 43

In my personal experience, it is getting a girl to go out with you that first time which is so difficult. After that, it is the follow up dates, but they get easier and easier, providing the girl is interested in you. But Nasa has already passed those stages. He’s married to his girl. When I was in a relationship with a girl, I had no problem asking her out on a date. So I don’t get Nasa’s embarrassment (or Hata-sensei’s).

The Date: Event

I admit, I had to laugh a bit at Nasa expecting problem flags to be set for their date. Nasa imagined the various cliched scenarios that could have happened, such as a new girl who’s interested in the MC, a love rival, a scary guy, etc. However, because he’s worried about those things, he’s missing some of the aquarium attractions.

That aside, I do think Nasa set a mishap flag on his date with Tsukasa. When he laughed at Tsukasa referring to a pelican’s head/beak area as the front part, that was a negative flag being set for sure. She’s embarrassed by him teasing her. And to make matters worse, he cuts her off to get something to eat when she’s not done talking.

In my experience, a woman NEVER forgets moments like this. Because of this, I think that somewhere down the road, Hata-sensei will have Tsukasa bring this up when the inevitable couple’s fight happens.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

Okay party people, time to wrap up my blathering on Tonikaku Cawaii chapter 43.

  • Hurray for Kaname getting stories going.
  • Sometimes, Hata-sensei drops clues about things in the weirdest places. As such, I couldn’t help but wonder if some of the people at the aquarium that Nasa envisioned as problem flags might show up in the future. Doubtful, but who knows.

In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii chapter 43 was a fun, date chapter for Tsukasa and Nasa.
