Spoiler Summary/Synopsis

It is snowing, so Nakano’s job gives him the day off. Senko-san wants to play in the snow, but Nakano is reluctant to do so. However, he eventually gives in and they have fun in the snow together.

Afterward, Senko-san’s boss, Sora-dono, pays them a visit. She teases Senko-san by seducing Nakano. However, she’s stunned when Nakano doesn’t want her body, but her multiple tails. Senko-san gets jealous, so an amused Sora leaves. Before departing, she gives a warning to Nakano about causing Senko-san to be sad.

Nakano teases Senko-san about being jealous. As a result, she feeds him a dried sardine on a bowl of rice. Meanwhile, Shiro and Sora observe and discuss the situation.

Thoughts/Review

For The Helpful Fox Senko-san 10, chapters 10, 9.5, and 22 were used to create the episode. In addition to the normal Kuroto issue, the season jump in this episode made no sense.

You Were Summer, Now You Are Winter!

One of the things I normally don’t like in anime adaptations of manga is when the anime writers decide to just pick chapters from here and there in the manga and put them into a new order. The RIN-NE anime was able to get away with that because the manga chapters were very episodic. Outside of introducing a new character to the party, nothing changed the status quo.

But for The Helpful Fox Senko-san 10, having given us an episode about everyone going to the beach, then an episode about getting a hair cut to be cooler (to say nothing of the joys of an A/C), it is jarring to suddenly have the next episode be in the middle of winter with a massive snow event happening. 😐

Changes to the Source Manga

And now it is time to list the changes The Helpful Fox Senko-san 10 made to the source material.

Koenji wasn’t a part of the original snow story.
There was no giant snowball created by Senko-san in the original story. Had this chapter been done earlier, this addition would have been fine.
Senko-san’s back didn’t go out in the original snow story.
It obviously wasn’t winter when Sora paid Senko-san and Nakano a visit.
The sardine dinner scene was heavily extended in the anime.
Shiro and Sora observing Nakano and Senko-san eat dinner wasn’t in the manga.

Unlike Fruits Basket, I feel the extensions to the source material in The Helpful Fox Senko-san. I think I felt them more in this episode because of the seasonal shift.
