Nicola Traveling Around the Demon’s World Chapter 10
Nikora no Oyururi Makai Kikou chapter 10
ニコラのおゆるり魔界紀行 10
Spoiler Summary/Synopsis
Simon and Nicola stop at a post office so that Simon can check his mail. He gets a letter that causes him to change their plans and go see his dad. Nicola is nervous and excited to meet Simon’s dad. In the town of Guine, they arrive at the store Simon’s dad now runs. Nicola is stunned that he is not an akuma (demon) humanoid like Simon. Instead, he’s a large, penguin-like being.
Simon’s dad, Toby, is told about Nicola’s human origins and how Simon found her. Toby tells her that it is similar to how he found an abandoned Simon as a baby. Nicola and Toby get along well, causing Simon to be relieved. However, Simon consults with Garzoi, who sent him the letter telling him to come home. Garzoi tells Simon that Toby has been injured a lot lately. Further, Garzoi saw Toby jump off a cliff.
Simon confronts his adoptive father, who blows it off. He does some investigation and discovers a secret room in his father’s store. Within this room are a pair of battered wings. Toby shows up and reveals he had been trying to fly. As a biyola, he has a bird appearance, but cannot fly. He apologizes to Simon for worrying him and promises to not attempt to fly again.
Simon decides to help his dad’s dream. The following day, Simon and Nicola take Toby to the roof to show off the product Simon made. It is designed after Krovs, who can fly without wings. On the ground is a blanket held by residents to catch Toby if he falls. Toby jobs and floats for a moment before falling to the blanket. However, that’s good enough for Toby. Later, Simon and Nicola leave. Toby gently scolds Garzoi for sending the letter.
Thoughts/Review
In addition to the wholesome awesomeness we are accustomed to, Nicola Traveling Around the Demon’s World chapter 10 also gives a bit more to Simon’s and Nicola’s backstory.
Simon and Nicola Backstory
One of the questions I have had in this manga series is how Nicola arrived in Makai. We still don’t have specifics on this. However, for some reason, Nicola knew of a secret, small tunnel that lead to Makai. Further to that, she took said tunnel into Makai. But why she did this is not explained.
I get the feeling she may have been running away from something. After all, if she were just curious, I don’t think she would have walked away from the tunnel. Instead, just just walked and walked until she collapsed from hunger and was found by Simon.
We also get an understanding as to why Simon saved Nicola. Since Toby found him as an abandoned infant, it seems reasonable that he’d return the favor for Nicola. It’s quite sweet.
The Flightless Bird Biyola
I like Toby as a character. By making biyola look like penguins, I think it helps the audience relate to his dream of flight. After all, penguins can’t fly, at least not in the sky. Also, his kind-hearted nature is much appreciated too.
I’m guessing we’ll probably see Toby again. I hope so.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, Nicola Traveling Around the Demon’s World chapter 10 is another charming tale. I like getting that tiny bit of backstory for Nicola and Simon.
