Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

Kaname’s tanned friend KAGAMI Kyuuma comes by the bathhouse. Since Kaname isn’t there, Kyuuma wants to put Tsukasa into twintails in the hopes that Tsukasa will better listen to her. Kyuuma is disappointed Tsukasa won’t give in, so she goes to a chair and falls asleep.

Kaname comes home from school to find Kyuuma there. Kyuuma is stunned that her perfect school attendance record is over because she assumed summer break had started. Kaname tells Tsukasa that Kyuuma’s stupidity is quite worrisome. Kyuuma initially thinks this a compliment, but then later realizes it was an insult.

Nasa arrives and greets Kyuuma, whom he knows. She addresses him as Yuzaki-paisen. When Tsukasa addresses Nasa as “Danna-sama” (meaning “master,” but presumed in a wife speaking to her husband as he’s the master of the house), and he gives the greeting for returning home, Kyuuma inquires about this. She gets the notion that Nasa married Kaname, which Nasa quickly corrects.

Nasa leaves to do some work. Kyuuma decides to ask Tsukasa about marriage, such as kissing. Tsukasa gets frustrated and redirects Kyuuma to Kaname. However, while Kyuuma wants to talk to Kaname, she also wants Häagen-Dazs ice cream. Both Kaname and Tsukasa go off on Kyuuma for this. She explains that eating this ice cream is the only way she can discuss tough issues. Eventually, she leaves to go buy some on her own.

Thoughts/Review:

While Aya was somewhat of an idiot character in this series, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 81 establishes Kyuuma for that role.

Is Kyuuma This Series’s Fumi-chan?

In the Hayate the Combat Butler series, there was an idiot character named Fumi-chan. A lot of times, Fumi-chan was hilariously funny in her stupidity. Further, she was quite frank about things. That added to her popularity as a character.

Although Hata-sensei established Kyuuma as a character in chapter 79, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 81 is where he names her and firmly establishes her. But while Kyuuma may be as stupid as Fumi-chan, she’s not that funny to me. Hata-sensei is clearly trying to recreate the situation he had with Fumi-chan. He wants a funny-stupid character.

Unfortunately, in trying to make Kyuuma different, Hata-sensei has created a character that is annoyingly stupid. As such, Kyuuma doesn’t have the charm that Fumi-chan did. Kyuuma has a cute character design, but that seems to be about it. But because she doesn’t listen while yammering on and on, I can see how she’d grate on other people. It is kind of amazing that Kaname even puts up with her.

Hopefully, Hata-sensei can make Kyuuma funnier and less annoying. I don’t hate the character, but she’s not awesome like Fumi-chan was.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 81 works to establish the series’s stupid character. Now to make her actually funny. 😅
