Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

Tsukasa notes that Nasa is getting better. He apologizes for troubling her. She points out the Nasa probably doesn’t notice when he’s sick or injured. Tsukasa cites their first meeting, when Nasa was severely injured, yet pursued her through the snow.

That night, Tsukasa craws into Nasa’s futon to spoon with him. He realizes how much Tsukasa was worried about him and promises to pay more attention to these things in future. The two start making out, but she stops her husband. She doesn’t want him having a relapse, so she insists he go to sleep.

Nasa wakes up while it is still dark due to having slept so much during the day. Tsukasa joins him on the engawa. Nasa remarks on how he’s grateful to her for caring for him. He doesn’t think there are many who would. Tsukasa remarks on their relationship and how she values him more than anything else. They may have arguments or the like, but nothing will change her feelings and she wants him to live.

Thoughts/Review:

Nasa’s illness story comes to an end with Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 89. Hata-sensei does leave a bit of ominous feels with the chapter’s end though.

Trolling the Haters

If Western readers of this manga series are any indication, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 89 is where Hata-sensei trolls fans. I’ve mentioned this before, but there are many Western readers who hate the fact that Tsukasa and Nasa aren’t going at it like rabbits. And as I’ve said, I get that in reality, an 18-year old guy and a 16-year old hot babe would be having lots of sex. But this is a shounen manga, so that’s not going to happen.

That said, Hata-sensei has the young married couple start to make out, then cuts them off. I laughed ’cause I think Hata-sensei is trolling folks.

Married for Life

I loved how Tsukasa expressed her true love for Nasa. She has placed her husband at the top of her life. So while he may behave recklessly, such as not paying attention to his health, she is going to. And because she loves him and wants to live her life with him, she will confront him about things, even if it results in an argument or the like.

Hata-sensei is injecting another reality of marriage into Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 89. Marriage is more than sex. When properly done, it is a sharing of one’s life. That’s what I felt Tsukasa’s statements were reflecting and I liked that.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

The final page of Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 89 can read a bit ominously. I don’t know who is narrating the final page. But basically, the narrator speaks of a dream where Nasa and Tsukasa go to a summer festival for the xth time. And while the narrator has no idea how many more moments like those they’ll have with each other, they wish they could last forever.

It could be a simple desire to experience those fun times forever. After all, as one grows older, things change. There’s less time for fun and eventually, old age overtakes you and your time on Earth is done. But this page could be a hint about Tsukasa leaving Nasa as in the Kaguya-hime story. We’ll see.

In the meantime, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 89 was and enjoyable chapter.

Despite the utter absence of evidence for this belief, I’ve decided Hata-sensei is trolling us… about trolling us. (^_~)°

I’m still very fond of the Kaguya-hime reference* made in Mahoromatic, as a metaphor for the parting she knew was coming but didn’t share. That does NOT mean I want to see this story go that route.

    * – In episode 12 the official translation of Mahoro singing

    Maarui, maarui, otsukisama
    Itsuka anata ni kaerukara
    Itsuka Kaguya ha kaerukara

    was

    Round, round, oh moon
Someday, I will return to you
Someday, I will cross the river to return to you

Took me years to find out that last line should have been “Someday, Kaguya will return”. I’m guessing they accurately figured it would fly over most English-speakers’ heads… but in a perfect world, that’s what TL notes are for.

      Hahaha! It’s possible.

Man, its been ages since I read/watched Mahoromatic. But yeah, even if I know that the Kaguya-hime character must leave, but will return somehow, I agree, I don’t want to go down that route.

Sorry, you touched lightly on a nerve by accident – I never know quite how to feel about ANNO Hideaki.

I thought I hated him for goofing up the end of Kare Kano just like he hate-screwed the original ending of NGE… then found out the author got butthurt that he injected more comedy (into a story that really needed it to be watchable), and the end was actually pretty much her doing.

Then I found out the “true” (manga) ending of Mahoromatic, after acquiring a few small scars from his ending with vaguely-similar details (returning somehow) but an almost-polar-opposite theme.

I guess anime directors just generally leave me feeling conflicted. Don’t even let me get started on one of my mostly-favorites, DAICHI Akitarou. (^_~)

Ah, Kare Kano. But that aside, this is why I want faithful anime adaptations rather than the anime doing its own thing ’cause “reasons”.

          • arimareiji says:

Indeed. For all that OreImo has deep flaws, their portrait of how some studios will bollocks up source material “because reasons” really rang true for me.

I simply can’t stand how much SHAFT (loved? loves? don’t know if they still do it) SHAFTifying everything they can in their own wanting-to-be-clever style, but I find it hard to forgive even DAICHI Akitarou for what he did to the endings of Furuba and the whole last half of Kodocha. (>_<)

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

            Hahaha! SHAFT shafting stuff. 🤣
