Fate/Grand Order -絶対魔獣戦線バビロニア- Episode 20
Fate/Grand Order: Zettai Majū Sensen Babylonia ep. 20

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis

Hassan attacks Tiamat, giving Beast II a concept of death. As such, Ritsuka has his Servants attack to take advantage of this. However, their barrage doesn’t stop Tiamat. Instead, Tiamat “births” Divine-class Laḫmu. Istar and Merlin attempt to battle them while Eresh, Mash, and Ritsuka attempt to prevent Tiamat from escaping the Underworld.

The battle goes poorly as Ishtar is injured and has to be saved by Hassan. Mash is smashed into rocks. And Eresh gets engaged in combat and cannot fire her Noble Phantasm at Tiamat. Suddenly, Gilgamesh shows up and rains swords into Tiamat. Only this time, he’s an Archer-class Servant. This allows Ritsuka’s Servants to gather to him. However, Tiamat activates Nega-Genesis, to recreate the Underworld.

Ereshkigal takes the lull to fire her Noble Phantasm, sealing Tiamat’s massive body in rock. Gilgamesh suggests Mash activate her Noble Phantasm against Tiamat. Merlin will do the same. Gilgamesh provides a dagger for Ritsuka to use as he’s the only one who can enter Tiamat’s field. He takes off, but Ereshkigal dies from the things she has done to help the living.

Meanwhile, Gilgamesh defends the group while Hassan helps Ritsuka reach his goal. Ritsuka penetrates the field, where he finds Tiamat’s humanoid form. After speaking with her, Ritsuka drops the dagger, knowing she will sacrifice herself. He exits the field and yells for Gilgamesh, who unleashes his Noble Phantasm, killing Beast II. Ritsuka and Mash end up outside the Underworld.

Thoughts/Review

Well, pretty intense episode to be sure. And I didn’t remember Archer Gilgamesh showing up in the game, so his appearance in Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia 20 surprised me greatly.

Final Battle

I will admit, it was fun seeing all of the remaining Servants go all out in defeating Tiamat. Sadly, we didn’t get to see Hassan use his Noble Phantasm. Or rather, if we did, it wasn’t obvious to me. But Mash, Merlin, and Eresh all used theirs.

Speaking of Eresh, it was sad that the strain of everything she was doing took her life. In many ways, it felt wrong and out of the blue. But in other ways, it made sense to me. However, I couldn’t help but feel that the moment was done to add some tragedy to the episode.

Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia 20

I will say that I was surprised to see Archer Gilgamesh show up in Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia 20. As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t read the stories when I play the game. It is kind of weird seeing his jerk form actually doing something helpful for others. And then at the end of the day, his Noble Phantasm takes out Tiamat.

Still, his appearance is deus ex machina. But I’m OK with that.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

Since I’m under severe time constraints due to the ongoing, terrible Fate/Grand Order game event, let me wrap up my review of Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia 20.

  • I guess there’s only one more episode in the series. That’s a weird episode count, but if the story is finished with that count, that’s that.
  • Seeing Tiamat in her sad, humanoid form was unexpected.
  • I never did see Jaguar Man die. So what happened with her?

Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia 20

In the end, Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia 20 was a good, action-packed episode. And we got to see Archer Gilgamesh in a positive role. Now onto the final episode.

We unfortunately didn’t get to see King Hassan’s NP and poor Jaguar Man was left out of the final battle completely. Eresh’s death in game is also pretty different with it more or less taking place off screen, I felt like in the anime they wanted a sad/dramatic scene which I thought they executed well. Nice post.
