Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files 11
ロード・エルメロイⅡ世の事件簿 -魔眼蒐集列車 Grace note- 11
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis
Gray discusses this new Servant with Waver. Later, the two visit Olga, who lashes out at Waver. He reveals some personal things to her, including his original theft of the Iskandar relic. However, his words reach Olga. Meanwhile, Kairi has replaced Luvia with Flat and Svin and given them an assignment. Back on the train, Waver and Olga continue to talk. Waver makes a call to Luvia, wondering who put the Animusphere in the know about the Holy Grail War.
Meanwhile, Olga shows the Animusphere globe, which shows accurate ley lines. She also shows him the pendant Trisha wore, which Adashino is ignoring. In the meantime, the Mystic Eyes auction starts. When it gets to Karbo’s eyes, the bidding shoots up to $230M, thanks to Adashino. No one else counters her, so Waver is forced to. Melvin calls for a recess to talk to Waver. There, he learns that since Adashino’s Policies department owns Karbo’s eyes, she can afford to raise the price since most of the money would return to her department.
Melvin secures more funds and the auction continues. Everyone drops out but Waver and Yvette, who raises the bid to $500M. Waver decides to pause the auction by bringing up the topic of Trisha’s murder. He lays out a counter-deduction to Adashino’s claims. Waver points out that Trisha’s pendant was used to counter the effects of Mystic Eyes. Further, heads can be kept alive and their Mystic Eyes used. Thus the real perpetrator had manipulated Karbo.
When Waver is done, energy flows out of Trisha’s eyes and binds Caules, who has been holding it for Waver.
Thoughts/Review
Good grief! Talk about your cliff hangers in Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files 11. And also talk about your massive info-dumps.
Weird Auction
I am by no means an expert on auctions. I have watched all of the Lovejoy episodes tons of times. As such, since Adashino technically owned Karbo’s Mystic Eyes (because she had basically arrested him and seized the eyes for her department), I immediately questioned her ability to bid on her own property. In Lovejoy, someone bidding on their own item was an ugly way of raising the price so that the owner could get more money from the auction.
Indeed, Adashino was doing that very thing. Her Policies department could get them for just the cost of commission on the sale. And if they couldn’t get them in the auction, they’d make a massive amount of money. So I’m surprised this Mystic Eyes auction even allowed that. Granted, there are unusual circumstances here, and this is a world of mages. But still, Adashino’s actions in Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files 11 were unusual.
Further, I found it odd that Melvin could just call a break in the middle of bidding. Having a break during the course of an auction, sure. But in the middle of an auction? Seems weird.
Finally, what auction would allow someone to just take over and start espousing theories about a murder, even if said murder happened at said auction?
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
OK, I’ve got a ton of stuff to do, so let me wrap things up with some final thoughts on Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files 11.
- I like how Olga’s story is progressing. She’s had a lot of jacked up things happen to her. And she even slapped Waver out of frustration. But she is learning to trust Waver.
- Adashino is not only acting unethical in the auction, her ignoring evidence to try to nail Karbo at all costs is also unethical as far as I’m concerned. But I know some law enforcement folks will do this.
- I think I need to rewatch the episode just to get all of the info dumped here.
- Reines’s cameo was more of a, “Yeah, I’m still in this series.” 😅
- Luvia has a mostly fanservice cameo.
- Kairi gets saddled with Flat and Svin for their cameos. Not sure what they are going to do.
In the end, Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files 11 was a good episode. However, there was a ton of info dumped on us. And the auction was rather odd in some aspects.
One of my favorite parts was Grey’s funny and frankly adorable reaction to the pendant. She initially didn’t want to talk about it because it was “very lewd” and I think she may have fainted when seeing it another time. I think in the original story it was a rather large phallic symbol, but the changed it for the anime.
Ah. Well, I can understand if they changed it for the anime.
