トニカクカワイイ 101

Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

Nasa has a large telescope out at the campsite. He impresses everyone with his knowledge of the stars. However, this bores Aya. As such, Tsukasa breaks out the fireworks. This excites most of the participants. Tsukasa apologizes for wasting Nasa’s time. He’s just happy folks are having fun.

Chitose and Kaname stay with Nasa and Tsukasa. Nasa thanks Kaname for the wedding reception. Chitose is not celebrating their marriage. That aside, Nasa tells her that he has long pondered her question about why he’s getting married. Now, he has an explanation for her.

Tokiko arrives and approves of his answer. She then takes Nasa aside to chat with him. She apologizes for making Nasa wait for two years to be reunited with Tsukasa. Tokiko inquires as to the day he met Tsukasa. He states that he doesn’t know how he got to the hospital. However, he has a general idea of what happened.

Tokiko realizes Nasa is the final person to grant Tsukasa’s wish. She encourage him to to speak with “that person.”

Thoughts/Review:

Man, things got confusing as heck in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 101. Not sure how much of that the translator caused.

Confusing Elements

The long standing theory about Tsukasa is that she’s either Kaguya-hime, or someone similar to Kaguya-hime. And so the theory goes that she’s probably immortal.

The confusing element comes from Tokiko’s conversation with Nasa. Initially, she was about to blow him off because he didn’t remember how he got to the hospital. However, he has apparently put things together to understand what happened. What that something is, Hata-sensei isn’t revealing a this time.

REALLY Confusing (Updated)

However, things get REALLY confusing when the unofficial English adaptation has Tokiko apparently referring to Tsukasa as a male. Further, she starts apparently referring to Tsukasa as “that person”.  As such, Tokiko doesn’t really say anything, yet acts like she’s said a lot.

That aside, I reread the first few chapters for clues. But I didn’t find anything of significance. So we’ll see how things pan out and whether the translators jacked something up or not.

Update: Manga reader CKT0304 reports:

I checked the raw, there is no mistranslation, but the dialogue on last page should be more like “if you are interested about this, you can ask them (that person). Surely, he/she/they will tell you about it when you are alone with him/her/them.” It should be less confusing like that.

And the unofficial adaptation has updated the page to indicate that Tokiko was telling Nasa to ask Tsukasa, which makes more sense. Tokiko is not going to say what Tsukasa told her, and it would make sense for Tsukasa to tell Nasa directly.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

  • Still no Aya x Ginga story.
  • Gotta love how Tsukasa bailed out the bored but amazed audience Nasa had by bringing out the fireworks.
  • It almost seemed as if Tokiko might be dying. I get that she’s old, but Hata-sensei seems to be implying.

In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 101 seems to drop some ominous flags. At the same time, there was some confusion as to whom exactly Tokiko is referring to at the end of the chapter.
