Tonikaku Cawaii: Fly Me to the Moon Getting an Anime Adaptation!
Hey folks! Probably many of you will already know this by the time I post this article. However, for those who don’t, it has been announced that Hata-sensei’s Tonikaku Cawaii: Fly Me to the Moon (and yeah, “Cawaii” is the official romaji spelling instead of “Kawaii”) will get an anime adaptation in October 2020. Here’s the blurb from Hata-sensei’s official Twitter account.

I for one am cautiously excited.
Anime Adaptation
With Hayate the Combat Butler, the anime folks added a whole ton of stuff that wasn’t part of the manga. In fact, all of the anime stuff mostly went on its own. Sure, it took stuff from the source manga, but on the whole, the anime is only par at best when placed against the manga.
As such, I hope the Tonikaku Cawaii: Fly Me to the Moon adaptation is a faithful one. I really don’t want the anime adapters going off on their own and doing all kinds of stupidity that’s not in the manga. I’m fine with some additional fleshing out of moments and such. However, if they go off on their own, chances are it won’t be as good and will clash with wherever the manga ends up going.
Viz’s Licensing of the Manga
As I reported last month, Viz just picked up the license for Tonikaku Cawaii: Fly Me to the Moon. It seemed like such an odd move for them, considering how they despise having to publish Hayate the Combat Butler and have slowed its publication to an insanely slow craw. But as Sean Gaffney pinged me on Twitter, “Viz picking it up now explained.” Indeed it is.
We will see how Viz treats Fly Me to the Moon (as they are simply calling it).
That aside, if you read the Tonikaku Cawaii manga, are you looking forward to the anime release? Let me know in the comments section. And special thanks to Sean and Kiba for the tips! 😄
