Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 123
Tonikaku Kawaii Fly Me to the Moon 123
トニカクカワイイ 123
Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:
The girls in Nasa’s class are stunned to learn he lives at a bathhouse. As such, they decide to pay his residence and wife a visit. The girls go gaga over Tsukasa in the bathhouse lobby, causing Shirogane to remind them they are in a place of business. Therefor, the girls pay to gain entrance to take a bath.
As the girls undress, they discuss Nasa and Tsukasa as a married couple. The girls also let down their hair. However, USAMI Shio (Usa) ends up looking the most different without her glasses and with her hair down.
Meanwhile, Kaname discusses the situation with Tsukasa. Tsukasa isn’t sure about these high school girls, but Kaname thinks it is great that Nasa is so trusted.
Back in the bath, the Jessie and Myaako decide to try to sauna, but quickly bail. Kurenai, Usa, Shirogane, and the other girls have a sauna contest that Usa wins. As the girls recover in the lobby, Kurenai expresses a lack of desire to study. As such, the five girls leave to get ramen.
Tsukasa remarks on how cute the girls were. This leads Nasa to say she’s the cutest.
Thoughts/Review:
Haha! There is no plot in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 123, only the fluff and fun that’s usually associated with this manga.
Bathhouse Chapter
I can’t really say that bathhouse chapters are a norm for manga. Sure, Akamatsu-sensei used the onsen/private, giant bathhouse stuff a lot. And I do remember a bathhouse resort story in Ai Yori Aoshi. That said, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 123 was a reminder that bathhouses are not common in modern Japan.
In that light, I kind of enjoyed the girls reaction to the facility. Bathhouses are part of Japanese culture, and in that vein, the girls were aware of them. But it didn’t seem that any of the girls had ever been in one. So it was fun seeing the girls experience this for the first time.
That aside, this bathhouse chapter was also a way for Hata-sensei to do his mild fanservice of all the high school girls. Further, it was a way for Sensei to draw the girls without their normal hairstyles, or in the case of Kurenai, without her headphones.
The other item of note is that I think this chapter will end Tsukasa’s unease and possible jealousy over Nasa working with cute high school girls. Now that she’s met them and talked with Kaname, combined with Nasa’s compliment of Tsukasa, I think Tsukasa is OK with the situation.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 123 was just a fun little chapter in which the girls of Nasa’s class get to meet Tsukasa and experience a bathhouse for the first time.
Bath house chapters used to be quite common back in the day, not at all nowadays. I suppose they must have fallen out of style in Japan? The coronavirus will put the final nail in their coffin, I imagine, joining the circus, arcades and the movie theater in the dustbin of history as we all become socially mandated shut-ins who have no choice but relying on our paid, ever more expensive corporation-controlled streaming services to have any entertainment and on Twitter to have any social interaction, or else we die from a plague.
Those who live in the First World, I mean. The rest of us including me are done for.
