UQ Holder!: Magister Negi Magi! 2 Chapter 184
UQ Holder Chapter 184
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Touta is briefed on the fight Kirie had 43 years ago with Agali, another time manipulator. However, both Kirie and Agali disappeared during the fight. UQ Holder believes Kirie was sent to an alternate universe. Touta figures to inquire with Dana on this, but Kuroumaru informs him that they’ve been unable to contact the Witch of the Rift.
Gengorou reports that over the past two years, there have been small withdrawals from Kirie’s bank accounts, originating from Sendai. Touta tracks her down, but she denies being Kirie. She attempts to flee, but Touta corners her and gets her to concede. She lets him know that she’s no longer an ageless immortal, thus she feels she cannot walk the path with him and the others any more.
Kirie has Touta come to her apartment. She tells him she was sent to a parallel Earth in 2021, where there was no magic. However, Kirie was able to reach Dana and had to reach a deal with Dana–giving up the Elixir of Eternal Youth, which is how Kirie never aged.
Touta assures Kirie his feelings haven’t changed. Though Kirie is third in Touta’s harem, she accepts him and they consummate their relationship. In the future, Touta continues to see the now elderly Kirie. Back in the present, Kirie awakens and after Touta wakes up, she agrees to show him around Sendai.
Thoughts/Review:
Kirie returns to the story in UQ Holder Chapter 184. As expected, Touta copulates with her to officially add her to the battle harem. However, Akamatsu-sensei does some retconning to remove some of the lolicon aspect of the store.
Retcon Time!
We all knew that Touta would be adding Kirie to his official battle harem. And UQ Holder Chapter 184 is where that happened. Further, this would mean Touta getting his freak on with her, just as he’d done with Kuroumaru and Karin. However, Akamatsu-sensei had a problem doing this — despite Kirie having been around for however many decades, she still looked 10…maybe 12.
As such, Akamatsu-sensei decides to retcon in the Elixir of Eternal Youth (Longevity Peach) to explain why Kirie was ageless. And then he has it so that Kirie gave that up (on top of losing her reset powers) so that she now ages. And with that bit of aging, Akamatsu-sensei felt safe to allow Kirie and Touta to do some heavy boot-knocking.
I haven’t done page counts, and I’m too insanely busy to do so, but it felt like Akamatsu-sensei gave Kirie more ero-ero time with Touta. That aside, she still only looks 14. I noted the line-drop about “college life”, but Kirie appears to be wearing a high school uniform. So that might be some CYA on the part of Kodansha Comics.
Kirie-obaasan
One thing I wonder is if Akamatsu-sensei gave us a glimpse of the future in UQ Holder Chapter 184. It might have only been Kirie’s dream, but we got to see Kirie as an old woman, living alone in the country (sans some summoned critters). I will admit that I kinda hope this was a peek into the future.
I was reminded of The Highlander, where a Scottish immortal marries a lovely lass. However, despite her getting old, he stayed with her to the end. And I can believe Touta doing that for Kirie as well.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
I’m insanely busy, and there’s not a lot to discuss for a chapter that’s mostly boinking. As such, let me wrap up my review of UQ Holder Chapter 184 with some final thoughts.
- I guess Akamatsu-sensei had Kirie end up on an Earth much like our reality.
- I chucked at Akamatsu-sensei remarking that recounting Kirie’s adventures would be a five volume manga series. Who knows, maybe Akamatsu-sensei does that after UQ Holder ends.
In the end, UQ Holder Chapter 184 was really ecchi, feeling more so due to the lolicon nature of Kirie. But now Touta has his battle harem together, so onto the endgame.
Chapter was cute. I ended up enjoying it more than I expected it to.
Since Kirie had the most romance scenes with Touta, prior to the pactio chapters, it’s understandable that the chapter ended up as it did.
No matter the outcome, if Kirie stays mortal or gets her immortality back in one form or another, I’ll be fine with it. What matters is that her relationship with Touta can finally move forward.
With all that’s happened so far with Touta and his harem, I hope to possibly get to see them become his formal pactio partners. Since a formal pactio is basically a magical marriage contract, it’d be a nice ribbon to top it all off. Not to mention, Karin and Kirie are due for a major power up, considering the odds they’ll be facing.
P.S. The new volume cover just arrived

The harem! Thanks for the share!
Sorry for the delay. I got super busy with work and forgot to check comments. 😢
Yeah, it has been pretty clear that Kirie is Akamatsu-sensei’s favorite. But this time, he decided to go full harem and give everyone a bit of what they wanted and avoid the “WTF” stuff of Negima.
I wonder if Akamatsu-sensei remembers to do that. I think they only reason he brought the pactio system into UQ Holder was so that they could see new cards.
Not really a whole lot to say about this chapter but it was going to happen, just a chapter later than I expected. I’m curious about the ramifications of Kirie losing her power. I wonder if Akamatsu realized that her power cheapens the story a bit and decided to take it out. Anyway according to the man himself that’s the end of the real ecchi stuff so next chapter the final battle should begin. I do hope to have some closure on the Negima girls for better or (most likely) worse.
Maybe. It not only cheapens the story, but in reality, Kirie should be able to reset forever until they get a win. So with her power, there’s no drama. And the age thing is just to make her a bit older for the ecchi stuff.
I’d add Nagi and Negi to that too, but Akamatsu-sensei may just have them dead.
I think Nagi is a lost cause at this point, but I’ve said it before: he’s not going to kill off his most iconic hero offscreen pitifully.
I can’t help but think Akamatsu-sensei will invent something, even through Dana, whereby Nagi and Negi live again. But I could easily be wrong.
1- And finally Kirie’s turn! What can I say, her complaints about the other girls, and how Touta was so used to it all really made it cute!
2- That said, the love making was definitely the most explicit, erotic and emotional even. From the very start, she was the most evident about her flirting with Touta, showing her true self and being the first to confess. Basically they were making up for all the lost time!
3- As for old Kirie… most likely a dream that might happen. Using the future tech and magic, I still think it’s possible to at least become ageless (like Tsukuyomi, who became a cyborg, or even Fate as a magic homunculus).
So thank you for the review!
P.S.: Yeah, Kirie came to our space-time lol
P.S.2: If I had to choose, I would go for the game-like immortality: really versatile, needs you to work and even gives you the choice of death.
Kirie has long been Akamatsu-sensei’s favorite. And you can tell with how much effort he put into Kirie x Touta rather than the other girls.
You’re welcome! I’m sorry I was so late with the review and responding to your comments.
Nah, it was 大学生活 in the original as well, so at the very least “college life” is not a CYA translation. I agree that Akamatsu probably took her powers away to take away the safety net for the final battle. No Redoes. I don’t think she was sent to our universe… more advanced AI? Compared to Chachamaru? Hahaha, no. I was thinking the Ai ga Tomaranai universe.
I’m hoping that at least Shinobu can be plucked forward in time… I mean at least as of c181 he doesn’t know the fate of Shinobu, Mizore, Isuna, or Honoka… And while his narration might be pessimistic, maybe the narration is from before the epilogue or something, or was referring collectively to all six mortal friends in the chapter.
Sorry for the delay. I’ve been so busy, I forgot to check comments. Further, yours was in the spam folder for some reason.
Sweet! Thanks for the info. Kirie still looks like she’s in a high school uniform though. 😅
That’s a good point.
Heh. It would be cool to see those characters again.
I can’t help but think there will be some kind of reset at the end, where Nagi and Negi are alive, the girls you mentioned are back, and Touta marries his battle harem (and possibly more).
Sorry, I know this isn’t what you meant – but it still reminded me of the extremely rude/profane Yelling Bird from the webcomic Questionable Content. Or more accurately, his sarcastic catchphrase to mock coy gratuitous fanservice: “AND THEN THEY ALL ****ED.”
Somehow it seems like that would be a perfect last page, with Yelling Bird interrupting Chamo’s elaborate explanation for how Dana accidentally blew everyone’s clothes off at the group wedding with a magical mishap.
Hahaha! Which is exactly what happened in another anime franchise I’m closely associated with. 😂
The thing with her reset powers is that she dies and revives right? So without the immortal aspect she most likely can’t revive?
Anyways… regardless of that, Touta is a vampire, technically he could just turn Kirie into a vampire.
I read the chapter again… It’s not really a retcon, just more of a further detail into how Kirie’s powers work. Basically she has a Double Immortality ability. It was explained in the first volume of UQ Holder that there are a number of ‘Immortality’
Like what is considered Immortality?
– The Ability to never Die?
– The Ability to never Age?
– The Ability to Regenerate/Heal?
– The Ability to be impervious to damage?
– The Ability to jump back to an earlier point in time?
Basically Kirie’s immortality was Reset & Restart which gave her the ability to redo an event and jump back to an earlier point upon death. She still dies but she can redo an event to avoid it. This isn’t really immortality, it’s just a way to cheat death and reduce the number of ways for her to die. Meaning she can still age and die naturally.
To counter that she has the Elixir of Eternal Youth or The Longetivity Peach from chinese legends which… if it was accurate, was suppose to give someone a long lifespan. If you are familiar with Journey to the West and the character Son Wu Kong then you would know that his immortality is basically layers of immortality stacked up to make him essentially impossible to kill.
By becoming ageless, Kirie basically eliminated her original weakness of dying of old age. However the problem with this is that if she had just the power of Peach, then her immortality would be like Jinbei’s. She can’t age but she can still be harmed and die of other means.
Anyways… I think Reset and Restart is still available unless that has been or is still disabled? Eitherway she just needs another form of immortality to stack on top of her ability.
Side Note: Seriously… Touta is just screwing every girl… at least Negi settled down with someone but Touta ¬_¬
Seriously though… sensei needs to do a Doujin!
I seem to recall he did do a doujin work early in his career. I’m pretty sure I looked at it, but I don’t remember a thing about it. I’m thinking it wasn’t hentai, but it may have been ecchi. Not sure how much more ecchi it was than this chapter. That said, good grief…he could probably make mad bank selling a full-on hentai work, especially with some H poster images thrown in.
I know what you are saying here. However, I call it a retcon ’cause when she told her powers, she said NOTHING about this aspect. Why? ‘Cause it didn’t exist yet in Akamatsu-sensei’s mind. However, I’ve no doubt that since Sensei wanted to go as ecchi as possible for the Kirie x Touta stuff, he had to invent a reason for why Kirie was older. And Kodansha likely wanted to make her older to avoid certain potential problems.
I would need to pull the chapter back up, but I believe her powers were removed. Or at least, that was the impression I got.
I believe there was a lot of blow-back from Akamatsu-sensei “randomly” deciding that Chisame was the one Negi wanted. The manga was set up for a Negi x Asuna pairing, then about the time of the Magic World trip, Akamatsu-sensei shifted and decided “megane girl” was the one for Negi. (He apparently has a thing for girls in glasses.) The writing of Negima did not do a good job trying to establish this or explain Negi’s shift from Asuna to Chiame. And that irritated a lot of fans.
With UQ Holder, it was clear that Akamatsu-sensei favored Kirie. And that is demonstrated in this chapter. However, I don’t believe there was a lot of fan support for that. I suspect that Kuroumaru was the favorite ship, followed by Karin, and then Kirie. So Akamatsu-sensei chose to go the battle harem route.
As a longtime fan of the canon Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-ohki series, the harem route does make sense story-wise. (It made sense in Negima too.) Touta’s battle harem are stronger together as a unit than as individuals. And since they are immortal, and the immortal choices for mates are limited, Touta is the lucky guy with three babes. 😉
Wait there was blow back to Negi x Chisame? I mean it would make sense right? Chisame was there with Negi during the magic world arc whilst Asuna was more like a big sister, plus I’m pretty certain that Negi and Asuna are related to some degree, distantly related but still related right?
Aside from that Negi and Eva make sense as well given what we’ve seen in UQ Holder, if anything I’m a bit annoyed that Eva is wishy washy with Nagi, Negi and Touta.
There was no real indication as the story progressed that Negi had some kind of romantic interest in Chisame. The story set up groundwork that one’s partner generally became one’s spouse. And that was what was set up for the longest time in Negima. Asuna was his main partner.
On the Magic World, Chisame became the “big sister” to Negi and Asuna was tossed aside, mainly because she became too OP. But there was a sub-arc to rescue Asuna, who was still Negi’s main partner. When Negima ended, Akamatsu-sensei did make it fairly clear that Asuna was out. So there was speculation on whether Eva would take the romantic role, or someone else. Chisame wasn’t on most folks’ radar, as I remember it. So when it was revealed that Chisame was “the one”, there was a lot of “Where’d that come from?”
Had Akamatsu-sensei actually written things so that this Chisame x Negi romance had time to properly happen, it wouldn’t have been as big of an issue (though I personally didn’t care for it much).
I’m really hoping there’s no Eva/Yukihime x Touta stuff, but Akamatsu-sensei has set that up for sure. I’d rather Eva end up with Nagi or Negi. Eva ending up with Touta carries a major ick factor for me, since Eva raised Touta as a son for two years.
Correct. She cannot revive nor reset things.
In theory, correct. But Touta as a vampire has been one of those elements that is mostly forgotten.
Coincidentally, I noticed ‘Vampire’ is on his info card in 185
Yikes. I still have to read 185. Been too busy today. But other than this mention, I bet nothing else has come of his vampire side.
