UQ Holder Chapter 190

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Negi and Touta discuss the situation and devise a plan. Meanwhile at her throne under the World Tree, Ialda (the Mage of the Beginning) discovers her Cosmo Entelekheia (CE) spell has stopped. She determines that the key Kuroumaru held was fake, meaning it did not have a piece of Eva’s soul. As such, Ialda discovers Honoka and Isana have it and are attempting to escape. So she pursues them.

Ialda quickly gets to them and unleashes her hoards at them. However, Negi fires his Jovis (Thunder Tempest) spell at her, allowing Touta to rescue the girls. Negi and Ialda battle while Touta attempts to get the girls 100KM away, which will break the CE spell. However, Setsuna, Honoka, Jack, and Al teleport in to stop them.

UQ Holder Chapter 190

The remaining members of UQ Holder arrive to deal with this threat. Sept offers to spirit Isana and Honoka away at the speed of light. Touta stops him, then uses his pactiones cards to summon Karin, Touta, and Kuroumaru from their captivity. He then shows an Ala Alba pin and explains the plan he and Negi came up with. After exchanging words with them, Touta leaves.

Touta returns to Negi, who’s barely been holding his own against his father, Nagi, and Eva, as the High Daylight Walker.

Thoughts/Review:

Thanks to comiXology’s mess, I’m a bit late with posting my review of UQ Holder Chapter 190.

UQ Holder Chapter 190

Negi and Touta Team Up…Yet

The previous chapter teased some epic team up between Negi and Touta, UQ Holder Chapter 190 put an end to that idea right away. However, it did again tease them teaming up in the next chapter. And it will be a 2 v 2 since Ialda has summoned Eva and Nagi to fight with all of their powers.

I will admit that I did love Negi’s “entrance” in stopping Ialda. And I did like seeing the scope of Negi’s subsequent fight with the Mage of the Beginning. But beyond that, we didn’t get to see much Negi.

UQ Holder Chapter 190

UQ Holder

Akamatsu-sensei gives all of the members of UQ Holder a bit of face time in UQ Holder Chapter 190. For the most part, it was the usual, “Go save the world, kid” stuff. I was amused at Jinbee telling Touta that since he’s well into adult-hood legally speaking, they need to go get an adult beverage. I doubt we get to see that in the aftermath, but I think it would be fun seeing Touta drinking with the Numbers crew.

(As an aside, we never did get an explanation about that system, did we?)

Karin, Santa, and Kuroumaru get some pactiones action by Touta summoning them to his side. What was weird was Touta only showed three cards. Kirie’s card was shown instead of Karin’s. I assume that was a mistake on Sensei’s part, but we’ll see.

UQ Holder Chapter 190

Akamatsu-sensei is being cagey by not revealing what Touta’s and Negi’s plan is, or why they need Ala Alba pins. I remember the pins served some function in Negima, but it has been too long since I last read the manga. So I don’t remember what that function was. 😅

Finally, Sensei gives Santa some love by having Touta and Santa have several pages together. I thought that was cool.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, I enjoyed UQ Holder Chapter 190, though the monthly format makes things feel quite rushed. I was disappointed Honoka and Isana didn’t react to Konoka and Setsuna. But otherwise, I’m fine with things I guess. Two more chapters to go. Shame we probably won’t get Ialda’s history.

A good chapter overall but man two chapters to end the Negima saga…. It feels too surreal and regardless of the quality of the ending I’m going to be sad when it’s all over.

The Kirie card is a mistake that Ken said will be fixed, I assume whenever the final volume comes out.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

Thanks for letting me know about the card. It seemed like a mistake, but one can never be too sure.

That aside, I hear ya. I will also feel sad to see the passing of an era.

    • Aki says:

It’s ending in two chapters?! What!!! How, this can go on for at least 5 or 10 chapters…

      • AstroNerdBoy says:

I hear ya. But Akamatsu-sensei is rushing through to the end.

        • Rob C. says:

His wife is eager to have plenty of lone time with him at last.

Bit disappointed it’s being rushed. It seems to be the making of epic fight we’ve been denied front row seats too. That’s why UQ Holder not going hold up as well to the original series. Akamatsu-sensei no longer has the time do them or has anyone helping him out I guess. Why IS he rushing though, was he told to be done by certain volume of the magazine it’s appearing in.

If he does retire, i wonder if he will doing twitter mangas like some more contemporary artists seem to be lately.

I don’t think he was told. However, once he stated that the series was ending, he did have to tell the folks at Bessatsu Shounen Magazine when he was ending it. That way, the magazine can have a replacement series ready for when UQ Holder is done. So he has no choice but to finish things when he said he would.

If he does retire, i wonder if he will doing twitter mangas like some more contemporary artists seem to be lately.

He might do non-hentai doujinshi stuff. I think he was at a recent doujin event with a (non-hentai) publication collab. He has done non-hentai doujinshi stuff in the past, mostly with Love Hina.

  2. Aki says:

I realised I missed 187 and 188 and after reading them I finally understood how Touta pulled Negi out.

So Negi was pulled out due to his own artifact contain 17 other artifacts being used in unison to pull out one of Ialda’s vessels.

Ironically one of their plans is to stack all of Touta’s cards to do something else.

The ala alba pin is kind of bugging me… I think it can be used for communication unless they have a new feature?

I’m surprised Fate isn’t joining Negi for the big fight and from sounds of it, I feel like there is a sad ending, either Touta has to end himself as a sacrifice or he will have to do something that will end all immortality or indirectly end Santa and all curse/evil???

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

I sorta expect a big reset button to be hit and maybe even, everyone becoming mortal and living happy lives. But who can say at this point.

      • Aki says:

That is a possibility… also I am questioning Chao Lingshen she should be the daughter of Touta or if she not connected to this timeline I was expecting some time transfer and parallel world styff

        • AstroNerdBoy says:

          Who? 😉

Somehow, I suspect Akamatsu-sensei has forgotten about her for the most part.

          • Aki says:

Oh boy… since he did it with Kuromaru, kirie and Karin who is to say Chao hasn’t been conceived and to be fair she could be a fourth generation clone unless she only exists in one timeline.

Overall her magic circuits on her body looks like Magia Erebea but isn’t quite that and j feel like her characters needed more exploring.

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

The thing is, I don’t think Akamatsu-sensei is even thinking about Chao. I’d be very surprised if she came up at all.

  3. Dargor says:

In two months time, Akamatsu will release me from my suffering at long last. I’m more interested in seeing some introspective on the series once its over then the actual ending at this point. I have my own thoughts on this whole thing, but I’ll just save it for the end. I’ll be more sad that there’ll probably be no more Negima content in the foreseeable future more than anything.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

Yeah, it is a shame we didn’t get some proper Negima stuff. I suppose he could do some “Tales of Negima” doujin works (non-hentai). I suspect they’d sell pretty well.
