Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

Shiori recounts the story of how Tsukasa named her and why. She then thinks back to the funeral of her father, whom she doesn’t know. Sometime later as an older kid, her mom Tokiko would take her to Kyoumaru (Kyomaru) Mansion to visit Tsukasa. Shiori didn’t believe Tsukasa was family. In fact, she didn’t have a good opinion of Tsukasa based on her inability to play games and her tendency to sleep during the day.

However, when Tsukasa praised Shiori’s artwork, Shiori began to change her opinion of Tsukasa. As such, Shiori decides to go into art studies in high school and college to fulfill her dream. She asks Tsukasa about her dreams. Tsukasa admits her dream is unlikely to be filled, so she opts for a nice husband.

Shiori knew she couldn’t make her mom’s dream come true. And when Shiori had Chitose, she discovered that her daughter had the smarts that might be able to take on Tokiko’s burden. Eventually, Shiori learned of Tsukasa’s secret.

Now, Shiori wonders if Nasa will be the one to make Tsukasa’s dreams come true. This thought is enhanced by the fact that Nasa is the first person Tokiko acknowledged as intelligent.

Meanwhile, Nasa tells Tsukasa they are going to Kyomaru Mansion.

Thoughts/Review:

After keeping her buried since her name drop early in the manga series, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 169 gives us a bit of Shiori’s backstory as well as her relationship with Tsukasa.

Shiori’s Backstory

Although it was incredibly abbreviated, I did like seeing a glimpse of Shiori’s backstory in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 169. I couldn’t help but laugh at Shiori’s early disdain of Tsukasa, especially since Tsukasa sucked at video games and slept during the day. But then she came to respect Tsukasa after Tsukasa encouraged Shiori’s art.

At the same time, we get to see a bit more about Tsukasa’s past. It is interesting that Tokiko had Tsukasa name Shiori. But considering Tsukasa named Tokiko, maybe I shouldn’t be surprised by this. And we see a bit more of Tsukasa’s suppressed desire to meet the man of her destiny.

With 18 pages, it is a shame we didn’t get to meet Shiori’s husband. And we’ve never met Tokiko’s husband. Maybe someday.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 169 was a nice chapter that gave us a glimpse of Shiori’s backstory. At the same time, it gives us a bit more insight into Tsukasa’s life. And we get confirmation that Nasa and Tsukasa will be heading to Kyomaru Mansion.
