Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

In the distant past, Shizuka (looking like Hotaru) apologizes for not being able to help with Tsukasa’s dream.

In the present, Kaguya gives a history lesson about Minamoto no Yoshitsune and Shizuka. Minamoto died in battle and Shizuka fled after giving birth to a boy. She disappeared after that. Thus a grave with Shizuka’s name on it is a massive, historical find. Not only that, but Kaguya notes other, significant grave markers, stretching across the centuries.

Kaguya believes this is what Tokiko wanted to hide by creating the false Kyoumaru Mansion. As such, Kaguya’s curiosity is satisfied. Further, Kaguya suspects that this place may have been for someone’s peace of mind, thus she shouldn’t mess with it. This announcement pleases Tsukasa.

Hotaru decides to pray at Shizuka’s grave, surprising Tsukasa. This touches Tsukasa. As everyone returns to the tunnel, Nasa asks about turning this graveyard into a vacant lot as well. Tsukasa feels letting go of the past is the right thing to do. Meanwhile, Hakase makes a discovery.

Thoughts/Review:

As is usual for Hata-sensei, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 181 has some possible hints about what exactly Kaguya knows.

Kaguya and Tsukasa.

I feel fairly confident that Kaguya will turn out to be the original Kaguya from the legend. As we already learned, she can read the ancient Japanese kanji. Further, she had a deep knowledge of the story of Shizuka and Minamoto, as seen in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 181. To me, this continues to imply that she was there.

It was interesting seeing Tsukasa react to Kaguya’s tale. The first page of the chapter revealed that Shizuka had been rescued by Tsukasa. Not only that, she looks identical to Hotaru, strongly suggesting reincarnation. Considering Tsukasa’s reaction to Hotaru praying at Shizuka’s grave, and her remarks afterward, I think Tsukasa knows Hotaru is at minimum, a descendant of Shizuka. This also means that Tsukasa is keeping things close if she recognizes other reincarnated people from her past…like possibly Nasa.

Back to Kaguya, considering her memory issues, I can’t say she remembers Tsukasa per se. But I suspect a part of her does know Tsukasa is the one Tokiko was protecting. Otherwise, why make the remark on Tokiko preserving the place for someone’s mental health?

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

It’s the usual, “work is busy, I’m wasted” stuff. So I’ll wrap up my review of Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 181 by saying it is a very good chapter. It seems that reincarnation is real and Kaguya may know more than she’s letting on.
