Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 197
Tonikaku Kawaii Fly Me to the Moon 197
トニカクカワイイ 197
Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:
Once upon a time, an old bamboo cutter discovered a shining stalk of bamboo. Inside was a baby girl, named Kaguya. Years later, the bamboo cutter asks the teenage Kaguya about their earlier discussion. She remembers none of it, so he reminds her that it pertained to marriage. He doesn’t want to marry Kaguya off, but he and his wife are elderly and thus he wants her to have a good husband.
As such, Kaguya agrees to meet the suitors, though she has no interest in marriage. Iwakasa reports this to the Emperor, who decides to see her himself. Meanwhile, five other suitors arrive. The men are captivated by her beauty and aura. However, she is not impressed and demands they bow. The men immediately drop prostrate to the ground.
The bamboo cutter explains that these are important nobles. Hearing this, Kaguya decides to have a scavenger hunt in order to win her heart. In the city, Tsukasa learns of Kaguya.
Thoughts/Review
Gone is the fluff, in is the plot and lore with Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 197. And I’m happy about it!
Kaguya-hime’s Tale
I don’t know much beyond a surface knowledge of The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. What Hata-sensei gives us in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 197 is pretty much what I already knew, sans the part about Tsukasa (of course). The Kaguya depicted from the past looks identical to the Kaguya of the present. I still say the girls are the same, but it is possible that Kaguya gets reincarnated somehow.
That aside, it is humorous seeing Kaguya in the past. She is her normal, “I don’t give a care” girl, though I do believe she loves her adoptive father. I liked seeing how he genuinely wanted to make sure Kaguya was provided for after he passed on. But reality is reality, and thus he has his concerns about Kaguya’s future.
The best moment of the chapter is when Kaguya ordered the five suitors to bow, and they all went into an immediate dogeza before her. Basically, this is a form of prostration, and these guys had no choice. Pretty wild how powerful Kaguya is!
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
I’m struggling to get this finished so as not to miss my posting stream, so let me wrap up my review of Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 197 with some final thoughts.
- I cheated, which is why I know the man visited by Tsukasa’s father (Iwakasa) is the Emperor.
- There wasn’t time to look, but I believe the Tsukasa stuff was from the flashback chapter where Tsukasa first learns of Kaguya.
In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 197 is a good chapter. I’m glad to get back to the lore and plot of the series and learn more about Kaguya’s past.
