TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You Season 2 12
Tonikaku Cawaii: Fly Me to the Moon Season 2 12
Tonikaku Kawaii S2/トニカクカワイイ
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Nasa emerges from his tent to enjoy the early morning by the lake. Tokiko joins him, where she shows off her camping skills with high quality coffee and toast making. As they chat, the smell wakes Tsukasa, who also joins them.
Some day later, Tsukasa and Nasa discuss the camping trip and their wedding reception. Nasa gets a call from his old landlord about their apartment. As such, Nasa and Tsukasa go to check out this new, modern apartment building. When they return, news of Nasa and Tsukasa’s upcoming move upsets Kaname. However, Tsukasa assures her that they will still see her as Tsukasa enjoys working the bathhouse desk, and Nasa can use the guest house as an office.
Nasa and Tsukasa go for an evening walk, where Tsukasa lectures her husband on how to properly hug a girl. However, she refuses to believe she’s a terrible sleeper. Meanwhile, Tokiko takes the moon rock from its place and thinks back to the night Tsukasa gave her two more years. Tokiko collapses and is taken to the hospital. Nasa and Tsukasa visit her there. Tokiko claims to be fine and leaves the room. Nasa follows her, where Tokiko opens up to him and gives him the moon rock. Eventually, Tsukasa makes her way out to join them, so Tokiko leaves them to be together.
Thoughts/Review:
The finale, TV episode hits with TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You Season 2 12. As someone who read the manga, the story flow is superior there to the substandard stuff the anime produced.
Modifications to the Source Material
Welp, the anime writers can’t help themselves. As such, there are several modifications in TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You Season 2 12. The source manga chapters from the episode came from chapters 104, 105, 107 (all from volume 11) and chapter “104b”, which was an omake chapter in volume 15.
- The hospital setting is all anime-original, BUT the story elements were from the manga. That said, Tokiko never had a fall in the manga.
- In the manga, Tokiko gives Nasa the moon stone while they are having toast on the camping trip. This is also when she opens up about some things that the anime had her say in the hospital.
- Tsukasa initially leaving home is cut from Tokiko’s anime flashback (from chapter 104b). But this is why she met Nasa.
- The episode adds a lot of stuff to the moment when Nasa gets his call about the apartment.
I suppose the anime writers wanted to make things more dramatic concerning Tokiko. To me, the drama of the source manga would have been enough. Not only that, but the writers had to come up with some STUPID way to get rid of Tsukasa so that Tokiko and Nasa could have their private chat on the hospital grounds. In the manga, Tsukasa was away just because she had not gotten up yet, so it made sense.
As a result of all the changes, we lose chapter 106, which was a fun chapter where Aya and Tsukasa get Nasa to play a game before they move out.
The Plot Continues
As I watched TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You Season 2 12, it reminded me of just how far behind the anime is to the source manga. As I write, I believe chapter 250 is the most current manga chapter. (And I’m only up to chapter 237 as I write.) So in terms of plot elements, I do enjoy the reminder of where things where compared to where things are now. Obviously, I won’t spoil anything, but for those who’ve not read the manga (and Viz’s adaptation is utter trash), you are in for a treat.
Although I dislike most of the modifications the anime made to the source manga, I did kinda enjoy seeing Tokiko represented as her younger self at times. I think this is due to my knowledge of what comes next in the plot of the story. But the episode does make it clear that Tokiko is handing the ball to Nasa.
Finally, I’d forgotten about Nasa’s apartment. Boy, was ever wrong back in the day when I tried to predict what would happen. Hata-sensei has a way of pointing one way and going another.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You Season 2 12 ends this second season of the anime. Considering that there have been four OVA episodes released in the meantime, I guess a third season is not going to happen. I’m curious to see how the OVA’s handle the source material. Meanwhile, I’ll write a review of this season in the near future.
