Spy×Family 37
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis
While Yor stays home with Anya, Loid takes Bond out for some training with Franky in the park. After a while, Loid realizes Bond’s not that into it. As such, Loid takes Franky’s advice and goes for a walk with Bond. The dog senses a kid will drop his ice cream scoops. As such, he attempts to prevent it, but causes it all the same. Loid is upset and buys the kid a 3-scoop cone. Bond then senses an old man is about to get hit with a bike. While Bond saves the man, the elderly gentleman doesn’t take kindly to Bond’s method. This leads to another scolding from Loid.
Bond then gets a premonition of a fire and a woman crying for her lost Daisy. He forces Loid to it and goes into the burning building. Loid cannot understand what Bond is doing, but then he finds Bond with a puppy. Bond prevents Loid from going forward, just as the fire takes out part of the floor. As such, the pair have to evacuate through a window. Loid decides they need to leave before they show up in the papers.
Meanwhile, Bond senses the man who set the building on fire. He goes after him, biting him in the leg. Loid is initially upset, but the accelerants in the man’s possession change his mind. However, Loid does remind Bond that he should have bitten the man in the leg as Anya would have not liked it if Bond died. The two return home, where Loid has a cover story. Anya uses her telepathy to uncover the truth. Afterward, the family eat and life goes on.
Thoughts/Review
And so with Spy×Family 37, we come to the final episode of this delightful anime series. Well, at least for now.
Modifications to the Source Material
Manga chapter 58 went into the making off Spy×Family 37. All of the stuff with Bond and Loid was accurate to the manga. All of the stuff with Anya and Yor is original material. Likewise, the aftermath of the Bond and Loid adventure is anime original. And of course, the collage of the different characters at the end was not part of the manga. Pretty inoffensive changes needed to fill out the time.
Another Bond and Loid Adventure
Spy×Family 37 marks the second time Loid and Bond have had an adventure together. Previously, Bond sought out Loid to escape “certain death” from Yor’s cooking. This time, their adventure spawns from just going for a walk, where Bond’s precognition gets them into the adventure. It certainly is a fun little romp, but in terms of story, it is just fluff. Nothing wrong with that. Both in the manga and the anime adaptation, the story needs moments of down time after big story arcs.
Sadly, the stuff with Yor and Anya have even less substance. But still, nothing wrong with some harmless fluff. Next time the anime resumes, there will be a lot more fun in it.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, Spy×Family 37 wraps up the anime with a fluff chapter adaptation and even fluffier filler. Perhaps not the way to end a series, but beyond the movie that came out, I’m sure there will be another anime adaptation as the manga continues to this day.
