Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

In 789BC, Mao shows off his penmanship, which is better than Tsukasa’s. Ato gives Tsukasa a hard time about this, since Mao surpassed her in a year. However, he compliments Tsukasa for teaching him diligently. Mao wants to repay Tsukasa for saving his life. To that end, he wants to attend a university to grant Tsukasa’s wish.

Meanwhile, Mao asks his uncle about Tsukasa. After having some fun at Tsukasa’s expense, Ato mentions that Tsukasa was an envoy to China, delivering Prince Shoutoku’s letter. Further, she studied Buddhism in Gandhāra. Mao asks how Ato met Tsukasa. He says that as a child, a bear attacked him. Tsukasa defended the boy and died in the process. However, when she resurrected, she defeated the bear.

Mao asks Tsukasa about this tale. She’s embarrassed, claiming the bear was weak from starvation. Mao asks about her mission to China (Sui). She confirms it, including knowing Prince Shoutoku. When Mao asks if Tsukasa is around 200 years of age, she is unhappy. She tells him she’s been 16 a lot of times.

Three years later, Mao graduated from Nagaoka Diagakuryou. After that, he began to study Shinsenjutsu–the secret art of immortality.

Thoughts/Review:

And so the flashback of Tsukasa’s life in 789BC continues in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 250. Hata-sensei incorporates how Mao invented Hiragana by making his penmanship surpass Tsukasa’s. Well, Hiragana isn’t actually mentioned, but that was the impression I got. And then there’s Mao’s desire to make Tsukasa’s wish come true.

Because I haven’t reread this manga from then start, I can’t remember how much we’ve learned about Tsukasa’s interactions with Prince Shoutoku (Umayado). I know Nasa had a memory-dream that he was Prince Shoutoku (Miko-sama). And there were other chapters about Prince Shoutoku. But I think most of Tsukasa’s time with him is still a mystery.

That aside, we get a brief recap of what happened. I supposes that Japanese people will know more since Prince Shoutoku is another, actual, historical figure. I should try to learn more about him and the other characters from Japanese history who appear in the manga.

Finally, the funny part of the chapter is Tsukasa’s battle with a bear. The bear kills Tsukasa, and then Tsukasa resurrects, causing the bear to realize his mistake. 😂 I like how Tsukasa plays this off, but clearly, once she became immortal, she also gained a lot of other abilities as well.
