SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Lucy uses her Leo-Virgo “Star Dress Mix” to battle Lisanna. Lisanna turns herself into a nine tailed kitsune. Lucy’s attack takes out Lisanna, and though it nukes Mira and Elfman as well, they are still standing. Since Virgo has been “captured”, Lucy and Loke have to face the siblings alone.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10

Meanwhile, Gray deals with the Thunder God Tribe. Fried removes Gray’s Ice Make abilities, leaving him with only his demon abilities. However, in this mode, Gray easily overcomes all three.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10

Elsewhere, Erza easily makes her way to another orb. She finds Jellal waiting for her. He shocks her by disrobing and coming onto her. As such, she decides to use seduction against him, causing him to “attack” her in lust. Laxus shows up, scolding Jellal for losing the objective. When Jellal decides to defend Erza, Laxus decides they should have a rematch. However, Kiria shows up after getting Erza’s scent. Kiria gets excited that another dragon (Laxus) is there.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10

At the same time, Wendy and Charle (Carla) make their way to an orb, where they find several Fairy Tail members webbed up. They were defeated by Diabolos member Nebaru, the Clinging Dragon. Nebaru quickly overcomes Wendy to consume her.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10

Still elsewhere, Levy defends Gajeel from Natsu. Since she’s pregnant with Gajeel’s child, Natsu doesn’t attack, allowing her to send him off in a cart. Natsu gets stopped by Wraith, the ghost Spirit Dragon member of Diabolos.

Thoughts/Review:

Lots went on in Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10, so lets get started.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10

Lucy’s Fight

To get things started, we got to see Lucy’s fight against Mirajane, Elfman, and Lisanna. Of all the characters in the Fairy Tail franchise, Lucy is the one who’s powers constantly get tweaked. I don’t mean the usual power ups, though I suspect Mashima-sensei considers it as such. What I mean is that at the start of the manga, Lucy’s Celestial Spirit powers were limited by a contract. Then the contracts pretty much disappears so Lucy could summon at will.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10

Sometime later, Celestial Spirits could come at will, when the plot demanded. Now, Lucy can chance costumes and gain the powers of the Celestial Spirit who’s Star Dress she’s wearing. And for Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10, that was a combination of Virgo and Leo (Loke). How she has power to keep two Celestial Spirits AND use their powers via a costume, I don’t know. Part of the power creep, I suppose.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10

Nevertheless, Lucy’s big attack only took out Lisanna. Virgo gets put on the sideline for comedic purposes. That just leaves Loke to help Lucy, and I don’t see how they win.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10

Erza’s Fight

As one of the big dogs of Fairy Tail, Erza easily blew through her first fight in Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10. Granted, that was done more for comedy. Still, what made Erza’s next fight interesting was the fact that she would go up against Jellal, a guy she has feelings for and has known since childhood. Sometimes, Mashima-sensei likes to pull the rug out from folks, and he did that here. I did not expect Jellal to strip down like Gray and forget his mission, just to be closer to Erza. That made me laugh.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10

From a story perspective, I don’t know what Erza thought she’d achieve by going through a series of seduction outfits. From Mashima-sensei’s perspective, it was a way to service Erza for the viewers. However, Laxus showing up put an end to that.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10

Speaking of Laxus, once again, we got the rug pulled from under our feet. I really thought we’d see a Laxus vs. Jellal fight, since Jellal’s infatuation with Erza overrode his orders from the White Mage. But then Kiria shows up, meaning now there could be a four-way fight. No clue how this will go.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10

Gray’s Fight

The biggest letdown fight in Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10 was Gray’s rematch with Bickslow, Fried, and Evergreen. As I figured, Fried would use his powers to stop Gray. However, it seems that “plot” demanded that Gray get through the fight as fast as possible. As such, Fried only stops Gray’s ice powers. From a story perspective, that makes no sense. There was no reason for Fried to allow Gray to do anything.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10

Oh well. It would have been fun to see Gray and Juvia team up and battle the Thunder God Tribe.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10

Levy’s Intervention

Since Natsu had effectively defeated Gajeel in this episode, it was interesting that Levy intervened. I don’t remember Levy getting pregnant in the OG Fairy Tail, but man, she’s apparently pregnant now. So did Gajeel and Levy get married? I hope so, though the episode doesn’t say. It just had Gajeel and Levy being sweet on each other after dispatching Natsu.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10

Speaking of which, I did like how Levy tricked Natsu. Assuming the pregnancy announcement and flashback were introduced in Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10, then she had to figure that Natsu wouldn’t attack her and risk harming the child in her womb. Thus she had an opening to use her powers to send Natsu away and unable to fight due to motion sickness.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10

You know, now that I think about it, one of the omake shorts that came at the start of the episode revealed Levy’s pregnancy. I get the feeling the story wanted to spring that on the viewer, but the anime production team nixed that by revealing it via the omake content.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10

The Final Battles

As I said, there was a ton packed into Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10. Natsu ends up confronted by a ghost member of Diabolos. And since Wraith is incorporeal, how does Natsu battle him? We’ll see what Mashima-sensei had in store.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10

Then there’s Wendy, who got caught by another member of Diabolos. Apparently, the spider-like Nebaru is unaffected by Wendy’s powers. Here too, I’ve no clue what rubbish will be pulled from someone’s rear to resolve this fight.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10

Regardless, things are quite chaotic. You have Team Natsu plus the powerless Juvia. Then there are the enthralled members of Fairy Tail. Add to the mix the members of Diabolos. And to top it all off, there’s the wood dragon god. So there are a lot of moving pieces, almost too many since most of the parties are split up.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 10 was crammed full of stuff, hence my bloviated article. However, the episode was entertaining overall, and even funny in one spot. However, the omake content at the beginning of the episode feels wrong.

Man I am stunned that Fairy Tail still plods on. As if 500+ chapters of this series wasn’t enough…. To be fair, I recognize that Mashima would want to keep his cash cow (emphasis on cow) going. I recently learned that Edens Zero wrapped up after 33 volumes, a series I’ve heard precious little about… And that Mashima has started ANOTHER series…

Every time I come back to one of Mashima’s series it really feels like I never left Fairy Tail and I don’t mean that as a compliment. Out of morbid curiosity I decided to check out a few chapters of this and Edens Zero and it was still the same tripe I had come to expect. Maybe Lucy actually gets moments to shine but it feels like her entire existence revolves around her clothes vanishing at any given moment (and her expected freak out about it) and to be upstaged by others. At least Erza fares a little better although this review made me think otherwise… The one character I actually like in this godforsaken series and Mashima manages to make her unlikeable.

I just can’t with Fairy Tail. A series that had so much early potential devolved into the most baseline, lowest common denominator thing you can imagine. Almost every character feels like they have exactly one character trait about them and that’s it. And that’s not even getting into the hentai-level fanservice… Sigh, why couldn’t Mashima go political instead of Akamatsu? Life isn’t fair.

Anyway, that’s enough ranting. Oh yeah, I hate Wendy. How is this character still like 10 years old? Good grief.

Okay, really done now.Don’t let my ranting inhibit you from enjoying this series. I just can’t like it.

And that Mashima has started ANOTHER series…

I wasn’t aware of that. I read some of Edens Zero, but after a while, I got bored with the same old, same old.

The main reason I picked up this Fairy Tail anime is that I never watched the original. Reading the manga was enough. So I figured I’d give the anime version a try, just for a fresh take, since it is animated and in color.

Oh yeah, I hate Wendy. How is this character still like 10 years old?

Haha! Well, there have been several years that past. I don’t know why they still have her look so young though.

Okay, really done now.Don’t let my ranting inhibit you from enjoying this series. I just can’t like it.

Hahaha! You’re welcome to rant! It is always nice to see old faces in the comment section. If you look at my other episode reviews, I am pretty critical at times. But, the series has helped traffic numbers go up, so I guess there are a lot of folks who like the franchise.

      • Yue Ayase says:

There’s just something about the series that makes me irrationally angry. I think it’s largely due to how it overshadowed Negima despite being a worse series. But I also think it’s just how poorly its written and falls back on gratuitous TnA to cover up for how one dimensional the characters are. But it’s also because of how promising it started out before Edolas made me crumble to dust.

But like you alluded to, the series does numbers. It wouldn’t still be around if it didn’t have an audience. I just wish that the characters could grow as people and the writing wasn’t completely predictable… Sigh.

I guess I just hope this series can becoming something greater than what Fairy Tail was, but every time I see it, I just shake my head. That pic of Wendy is just wrong for so many reasons.

Hope for the best, expect the worst. That’s how I take Fairy Tail nowadays.

I just wish that the characters could grow as people and the writing wasn’t completely predictable… Sigh.

I hear ya. The only “growth” is fairly minimal, such as Gray acknowledging to someone he cares for Juvia, but won’t fully pursue a relationship until he’s ready. I was actually surprised the show revealed Gajeel knocked up Levy. I suppose that’s a type of growth too.

Still, for what its worth, I’ve decided to stick with this for the long haul.

          • Yue Ayase says:

I do remember reading the final chapters of Fairy Tail and there were hints that Levy was pregnant. But it’s funny how no other couples have been confirmed despite teasing them forever. Status quo is status quo. I just hope this series can do a better job than the previous one.

Negima’s been on my mind so much lately (especially since they announced a gacha game today) and I think about the chapter where Zazie finally revealed herself and how earth-shattering it was at the time. I’d love to see Fairy Tail pull off something of that magnitude.

I need to look back at that. Sadly, I remember no details for the last Fairy Tail chapter. 😅

But it’s funny how no other couples have been confirmed despite teasing them forever.

Well, there was one, after the time skip. Alzack and Bisca got married during the time skip and had a little girl, Asuka.

Negima’s been on my mind so much lately (especially since they announced a gacha game today)

I didn’t realize there was a Negima gacha game. Yikes.
