SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Skullion and Madmole battle Mirajane and Elfman to a draw. With Wraith permanently defeated, and Kiria down, he orders a retreat. Kiria initially objects until she learns consuming Laxus will put her under the White Mage’s control. Nebaru refuses the retreat order. When Wendy uses her Dragon Force power, Nebaru does the same, even though Diabolos forbids it. As such, Nebaru starts transforming into a dragon.

Wendy gets utterly defeated and cries over her weakness. As a last resort, she taps into the residue power of Irene Belserion, who once possessed her. With this, she is able to briefly counterattack, but is soon on the defense as Nebaru continues to transform. Irene’s persona appears to Wendy and takes over, using Separation Enchantment to “kill” Nebaru as a dragon and remove his mage powers for a long time.

Natsu and Happy see the energy from Wendy’s attack and arrive. Per Irene’s request, Wendy doesn’t tell them who her invisible friend who helped her is. As they head over to where Charle (Carla) is held, Gray manages to barely defeat the exhausted Mirajane and Elfman for Cana to capture. They head off to grab Laxus while Wendy frees Charle.

Meanwhile, Mest destroys an orb and comes to the downed White Mage, where she instructs him to destroy the final orb. He does, giving the White Mage the ability to destroy Aldoron, the Wood Dragon god.

Thoughts/Review:

Well, I guess “retreat” will be the battle cry for Diabolos, as it was in Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 14.

Endless Pain in the Neck

Based on the events of Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 14, I’m firmly convinced that the Diabolos guild are here to stay. In the past, Fairy Tail fought countless other guilds, eventually defeating them all. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I can’t think of a guild that didn’t then become allies of Fairy Tail. And that’s why this new anime adaptation keeps having so many popular villains of the past cameo now that they are friends.

Regardless, I’d been wondering what bottom pull would happen to prevent Kiria from consuming Laxus. I knew there’d be some BS reason, but I honestly didn’t think they’d go to the “Run away! Run away! Keep running!” well. Okay, so Diabolos lost Wraith. The way the episode ended, Nebaru would seem to no longer be what he was. So I can’t imagine he’d get to stay in Diabolos. Maybe he joins Fairy Tail.

Anyway, as I said, I now believe Diabolos are here for the long term. We’ll just get introduced to more members as time goes on. I suppose it makes sense to do this since it means not having to deal with an even greater stack of characters. Just keep bringing the same old ones back with the odd replacement. That’s easier than introducing an entire new guild from time to time.

Wendy’s Deus Ex Machina

While I vaguely remember Erza’s mom Irene Belserion from the OG Fairy Tail run, I have no recollection of what happened between Irene and Wendy. Clearly, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 14 shows they have a previous connection. What I’m wondering is whether or not in this previous encounter, we see Irene leave something with Wendy. If so, kudos to Mashima-sensei. If not, well, then it is a standard, “there’s nothing to say this couldn’t have happened” retcon.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 14

As weak as Wendy always has been, I suppose this is a cheap way to give her some kind of massive boost so that she can defend herself and actually hold her ground in a fight. After all, it was pretty tough watching Nebaru beat the crap out of Wendy, who’s still just a young kid. (What is she? 13 maybe?) Still, we’ll see what the writers do with Wendy’s new deus ex machina powers.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 14 was enjoyable for what it was. That said, it was difficult watching Wendy take the beating she did.

I think I’d feel at least a little bit better about this series if Wendy just disappeared from it entirely. I really don’t feel like she adds anything meaningful to the cast (except a lolicon angle). Maybe she’s better here but every time I see her I just think of a character that didn’t need to be created.

Well, that’s why they gave Wendy and exciting new power, and someone to teach her how to use it. 😂
